I'm not really sure what Apple would have to gain by doing a pure fitness band. Fitbit, for instance, specializes in fitness bands and watches, which is why you can see in this comparison of all Fitbit wearables that even its smartwatch does not have many "smart" functions. i.e. it's not a competitor of Apple Watch. By straying into the fitness band category, Apple will have to start competing with a lot of wearables like these, which are frankly more health-specialized than anything Apple has the willpower to produce. Right now, the Apple Watch only has three competitors.

So if there was Fitbit and an Apple version which was guaranteed to be fully integrated into their new Health Ecosystem for a few more dollars, you would shun the Apple version and think everyone else would also?

No, but I think it's not possible for one company to do everything well. Apple's heart is not in fitness, and I think for people who really want a fitness band, wearables by other companies will generally be better fits. Of course it would be convenient for Apple to make a fitness band, but I think people who really care about fitness are likely to pick the best fitness tracker, not the most convenient fitness tracker.

As my initial post.
Right now there will be thousands or millions or tens of millions of people who would like to have an Apple wearable, but do not want to give up the watch they have.
Perhaps they are women, who like a more lightweight feminine watch than this fat lump, or guys who want something solid, chunky and mechanical.

I was just thinking of an Apple band so it allowed those people to keep the watch they had AND join into the Apple Health wearable arena, as opposed to now, where there will be nothing from Apple for them.

It was just so both segments of the market will be covered.

Most of the women I know would not be seen dead with a watch like the apple watch strapped to their wrist, as they prefer something far smaller and more feminine.

I'm having trouble recalling a fitness band on the market right now that is "feminine" and fashionable enough for people who would consider the Apple watch too big and clunky.
