I had MB 2015 since release, used for many hours daily and dropped several times, handed it down to nephew. Still running like new except for rundown battery and dings on the case. Same heavy usage from my MB 2017.

I willing to bet on the man that repairs these machines on a component level by the dozens a day that he knows what he’s talking about

I don’t care who he is. To say “MacBooks cook themselves to death“ is an absurd generalisation.

Do you have one yourself?

Have you seen the many threads here from people surprised at its capabity?

Would there be so many happy owners in these forums if MacBooks cooked themselves to death?

For the benefit of people reading this thread who do not watch the whole 31 minute video, it is probably worth explaining that Rossman was describing a specific fault with the 2015 12" MacBook model A1534 models and only those which have the 2000045 logic board.

The overheating problem he is fixing is caused by a communication failure between the charger and the computer resulting in the incorrect voltage being used, resulting in the overheating of a $5 chip (not the CPU).

It is nothing to do with being fanless, which would be the natural interpretation by most readers of the statement "MacBooks cook themselves to death".....which incidentally I never heard him say.

His prediction that this would be Apple's next recall does not appear to have been correct, as I can't see it on the extension program list, and in fact I have never heard of the problem before, although not doubting that it was a genuine. What I did hear a lot about at that time was problems with early knockoff USB-C chargers and leads.

If it had sold well enough, they wouldn't have canceled it. Hopefully it will make a return with an ARM chipset, although I do think that Apple think the iPad is the new ultra-portable and that's just how it will be. For everyone else, there's the MacBook Air.

my macbook is my casual machine for email, social media, etc.

for my graphic design work, i go to my imac. i do wish for a "pro" level machine in the 12" form factor.

imho no matter how it will be called ether macbook air 11 20?? or macbook 12 pro but fanless design should be the priority if they ever going to bring it back.

I have a 2015 1.1GHz model. I love it. It’s been all around the world with me. I hardly ever use my 15” 2013 MBP anymore.

I wish Apple made another sub 1kg laptop so I can update this one in a year or so.
