Hello

So a lot of people have been saying with the 12 models and pro max with the mag safe charging there has been a significant decrease in battery performance from going from 100% to around 85% to 90% in a year. Now with "wireless charging" and the amount of heat it can strain on the battery.

Surely the tests would have been done to ensure this "battery" draining would not occur.

I have had my 8 Plus since 2017 and my battery has latest a full 4 years. I know my friend that has had the 8+ But used wireless charging as the main source and he had to get it replaced back in 2019 due to it being at 70%.

So is this wireless charging bad for your iPhone and what should and could be done about this. :(

As I am certain you can prove the MagSafe charging draining and consuming much more electricity than your standard 20W power adapter.

I pretty much exclusively charge wirelessly and now via MagSafe, my outgoing battery health is at 91% after 11 months.

I don't micromanage my battery, either. I charge it at night and when it needs it during the day, if ever.

I don't think it's bad, inefficient maybe, but not bad.

You have had your phone 11 months right you wireless charge it come the iPhone 14 your phone battery most likely is going to be under 80% and that's just after under 2 years of use witch you can get the battery replaced for free. But I have only charged my phone from cord and it has lasted me around 4 years until a battery change and only just hitting 79% your phone could be at 60% charge come 4 years that if you were to change every couple of years so I would stop wireless charging as it's really really really bad for the phone

I see no defects in the iPhone battery, or the wireless charger. And there are many, many peope who have posted they wirelessly charge, and even after a year or two of daily wireless charging, their iPhone battery health is in the 90+% range. A decrease in battery health could be totally, completely unrelated to wireless charging. No case.

It could be something wrong with the iPhone 12 series or MagSafe charging, but not wireless charging in general.

I have a XR with 91% battery health, and I only wirelessly charge my phone. That’s only a 9% decrease over the course of about 2.5 years. Not bad IMO.

No thanks.

Ive been wireless charging my launch day iPhone 12 Pro exclusively overnight and my battery health is at 97%. Seems like battery health is very inconsistent across the board with others.

Wow, just looked and my 12 Pro Max from launch day is t 85% maximum battery from exclusively wireless charging. I'm in the iPhone Upgrade Program so for the last few phones, I've upgraded on launch day, but never seen a maximum battery health under 95% or so when charging via physically connected lightning cable. I never knew this was a widespread issue.

which wireless charger have you been using?

Wirelessly Charging iPhone 12 Pro on the Charging puck for the last 11 months. I also plug into Carplay A LOT for work driving. I rarely have an iPhone below 50% battery really. Don't micromanage at all. 91% battery health.

I mean what is an acceptable figure OP? This thing will feel like a dinosaur by the time I finally get the 14. 2 Years is a great cycle.

I don’t even own a wireless charger and my battery dropped to 84%. I think the batteries in the 12s just weren’t up to par. But it still holds a charge FAR longer than my 7+ at a 77%.

That's terrible , this is why I use my wireless charging docks just for my applewatch and not for my phones , the heat dissipation just tears through the iphone battery no matter what kind of wireless charger you use including the magsafe.

I got my iPhone 12 pro max at launch day and I only use the 18w charger and nowdays the 20w charger from my Ipad pro M1 and my battery is at 100% capacity.

TLDR: Probably not wireless charging temps, but more significant overheating causing the majority of battery degradation in my case. Can't imagine why Apple should be facing a lawsuit over this, if your battery health drops faster than they say it will they'll replace for free. What's to gain from a lawsuit? People shouldn't be so quick to jump on the lawsuit train, it's a massive waste of resources.

So I'm one of the people that posted about being in the mid 80s on a 12 mini. I've tracked the drop over the past 11 months and the bigger drops in the health percentage directly relate to 2 pretty bad overheating events. I take my car to a race track with multiple 45-60 minute sessions. I usually leave my phone in the center console doing processing for telemetry and video devices. First time it overheated the exhaust shielding failed, big 4.5 inch down pipe contacts the body without the exhaust shielding, center console got up to 190+ degrees, battery health dropped dramatically the following week (9% drop). 2nd time I left the phone in the console baking in the sun for a couple hours and forgot to turn off the telemetry recording, not sure on the exact temp but general interior temperature was over 140 (5% drop within 2 weeks). Both times the phone did the overheating shutdown stuff but that's still well outside the storage temp for the battery. Outside of these 2 events I've only seen 3% loss. Other than plugged in at the track I exclusively charge wirelessly.

XS Max here - 3 years old. Battery is at 88%. I charge cord before bed if needed and strictly wireless at night.

It doesn't matter bud :)

People who think a lawsuit is the solution to everything are the absolute worst kind of people.

batteries drain, it’s life with batteries. If yours is excessive it should fall under warranty move on with life. Quit looking for reasons for a lawsuit.

A class action lawsuit will get you like $10.

my 11 pro I bought on launch back then has 96% health as of now. I use and charge it a lot but never use wireless charging.

So if apple know that the wireless charging will drain and kill your battery quicker Thant a cord will.

Why do they promote such MagSafe ? and all this bs when in there "testing" this should have been brought up right ?.

A law suit may not be the best case but lets say your in a position where you spend 1000$ on a phone wireless charge it and within a year it has dropped to 90%-85% ..... Within 4 years or 3 the phone will have so Manny issues due to the hardware is so powerful with there new "chips" it won't have enough power to actually run the device. All due to a stupid wireless charger :( Apple are in the wrong here

A law suit? Really?

Everyone’s a newbie at some point, but why continue to entertain these sorts of newbies when they’ve here just to raise a ruckus.
<sigh> <forehead slap>

His comparison between his 8+ battery experience and his friends 8+ battery experience is meaningless since they probably use their phones differently therefore making charge cycles very uneven.

That said, there’s probably a very small correlation with “wireless charging” and the heat they produce, with shorter battery life.
Heat is never the friend of electronics.

I may of lost my mind but I could of sworn before the IOS 15 update I was at 91%. Now I'm at 95% after the update?? Not like it matters as it's getting replaced on the 24th with the 13 PM but still weird. I switched to magsafe from plugging it in about 6 months ago.
