Installed GM two weeks ago, doesn't feel slow compared to IOS 10. But it does have some minor bugs unfixed. Compare to 6S+, it's obviously slower.

Never upgrade iOS unless you absolutely have to for compatibility reasons (your work forces you, for example). Otherwise, stay on the version shipped with the phone. Otherwise, guaranteed obsolescence.

ip6 was a very weak phone...the A8 and 1gb RAM did buyers no favors. And the 6+ was an even worse travesty.

I love my 6+

Tried all the other "pluses" after it and hated them all in one way or another.

6+ is the best.

I updated my 3 year old iPhone 6 to iOS 11 today. Update took a while (as usual) and the phone felt hot to touch for about 30 minutes after completing the update. I know that the OS is performing all sorts of updates and indexing in the background, so I wasn't concerned. During this time, the phone UI is laggy, but thats only to be expected. Once it had finished everything and seemed to be settled down, I gave all my favourite apps a run through and all of them are silky smooth, as is the whole UI. There are no issues at all that I can see.. It's like having a brand new phone :D

Overall, I am really impressed with the responsiveness of my 3 year old iPhone 6 and will probably hold onto this till next September.

Sometimes I take my 6+ out of its (wonderful, grippy) Apple leather case and just marvel at how beautiful, thin, and light it is. Much better than all of the other "plus" models that came after it. Force touch=so dumb/useless and made the phones fatter and heavier, with worse battery life to boot. 8 Plus is fattest, heaviest phone yet! Incredibly dumb. Yuck! 6 Plus is best. I've tried them all, extensively.

This is what really bothers me about Apple. They bug you to upgrade to the latest iOS so that they can brag that 87% of devices are on the current iOS at their keynote address. But in some cases, it is absolutely a bad decision. You would think yOu could trust Apple in updating its own device. It's pretty devious I think.

NEVER upgrade iOS. This is how they kill your device and force you to upgrade.

I thinks I read some of your posts about your bad iphone experiences since the 6.

I'm a little surprised that you didn't like the 6s+.

The ram upgrade (1gb --> 2gb) along with touchid v2 was enough for me to finally get an iPhone.

I have the i7+ and while things seems faster the update is a bug ridden, hopefully they address all the issues.

Can’t speak for people with 6+, but the 7+ speedwise works well and will keep me happy for another year until Apple releases an iPhone with ProMotion on it.

I'm on a 6+ and I jumped to 11 when the GM came out last week. Should you bother installing it? That really depends on you in my opinion. If you're one of those who expects your phone to feel brand new afterwards, I'd probably skip it. If you're ok with a few UI slowdowns here and there, I think you'll be fine. So far I'm liking it better than 10. Generally speaking, it runs great. But I'm also quite realistic about what to expect from a 3 year old phone, with the bigger screen and only 1GB of memory.

Seems less fluid, has more stutter, but it’s just as fast so far, I had to update to get the watch update, otherwise I would have stayed on 10.

Other than that, the screen seems slightly different? I don’t know, less contrast? Washed out? I just notice something off. I do know, without a doubt the auto brightness is not the same, got darker when I turned out the lights, seems brighter in normal light. I’m sure a few adjustments to brightness will help.

Apple introduced ample bugs in the iOS 10 version of Music, and they never fixed some of them (such as "playing less like this" not skipping to "play more like this" not registering)! And you have to pay for Music! Why would I trust them w/ an 11?

There ain't nothin' on any new version of iOS that I need. The only thing it'll do for me is make my phone feel slower. No thanks.

As a developer, I'm not bothered by the bugs nearly as much as others. I understand the size and scope of an operating system. I understand that bugs are going to happen. To expect otherwise is just silly and unrealistic. And I know someone may come along and say something like "But how did they let X happen? That's so obvious, I'm not sure how they could even release this. Someone should be fired." To which I'd reply, you can't fault them for not fixing X unless you know why it was set aside and what other issue was deemed more important than X (unless you're working at Apple, you'll NEVER know that.) Bugs are annoying, but they're a fact of life.

As for why would I trust them with 11 since they messed up the Music app? Because you're listing something wrong while ignoring the vast amount of stuff that goes right. If you narrow your focus to a single point of view, you're more likely to reach a conclusion like you have.

Nothing on the new version that you need (let's ignore the obvious security updates for a moment)? Fine. Don't update. Seems like you've already reached that conclusion on your own. Many do the same and seem quite happy with their decision. Seems like a viable option.

FYI, I DO understand the frustration. I went through 5,000 songs a couple years back and set the "Do not play when shuffling" or whatever that option is. A week later some new iOS dropped (iOS 9? iOS 8?) and broke that functionality. And it wasn't fixed until a late version of iOS 10. So I too am affected and frustrated by bugs. But I also realize that it's pointless to wait until they "get everything fixed".

Wondering if it's worth it or if it will slow my phone way down? I plan on ordering the iPhone X on October 27th assuming I'm actually able to get my order in so one way or another I'll eventually get iOS 11. Anyone run the GM on an iPhone 6 plus? How's the performance?

Oh, go ahead and install OS 11 . . . I did (iPhone 6S Plus). I would have done it even if I wasn't waiting on a 2018 iPhone X.

After you update, it feels choppy, but I think it feels speedier than 10.3. Animations are much more fluid. Something about iOS 11 feels "clean"er than 10.x

Which phone did you install it on?

iPhone 6 since launch & i went ahead and installed it last night (after really pondering on not doing so). It didn't take long and seemed fine. this morning it was buggy but after just under 2hrs of usage - it shut off (which is normal because my battery life sucks now). it booted back up from the dead showing 50%!! anyways, iOS 11 seems to be working smoothly so far. i felt like 10.3.1 killed the performance on my iP6. since then it hasn't been the same. while waiting for the X, iOS 11 will make it feel like a new phone - somewhat but i'm forced for it to be attached to a mophie battery case because it won't last past noon.

Installed it on my 6+. Overall, I don't notice it being any worse than 10.3.3. Battery life seems very similar as well. The most obvious added lag is when bringing up control centre and the cover sheet. Both seems worse than on 10.3.3. I hope they improve it for future versions. I've not tested many apps with iOS 11, but I feel that iMessage & Safari seems to be smoother than it was on iOS 10. Other apps I've used seems about the same though.

It's already slow on iPhone 5S, of course it will be a lot SLOWER on 6 PLUS. because it has 1GB Ram 6 plus has bigger screen it will be slower than 5S due to more pixel push.

I went from the 6S plus (running IOS 11) to the iPhone X. Yes, there was a definite performance decrease on my 6S Plus as well as my original Apple Watch (just bought the series 3 Apple Watch). Since I've purchased these newer models, my performance/lag problems totally disappeared.

Yeah so it seems ios11 did its job. Not for the user but apples income;)

Yes, perhaps . . . but I was due for an upgrade any way. I try to keep all of my devices as current as possible. Problems (or software/operating system incompatibility issues) do occur with older hardware.

I tend to buy a new iPhone every 2 years and the Apple Watch was ancient (very first model). I didn't mind getting the series 3 at all. In fact, it prompted me to get the newest Apple TV as well. I wanted a second Apple TV for upstairs where I'm transitioning to 4K TVs.

I borrowed my mom's old 6 Plus (possibly interested in upgrading to a 7 Plus or 8 Plus next year so I wanted to try using a bigger screen) and man does it chug on iOS 11. If anything I think it's the combination of 1 GB RAM and the large screen that slows it down, my brother still uses a non-Plus 6 and it still works fine.
