Hey Everyone...I'm really confused on whether or not i should buy a macbook or not.

I've had a windows pc for years and its on its last leg and is not useful anymore. Now i have a iPhone and a iPad2 so i really don't use the computer to much anymore unless I'm synching to iTunes or something. Now i thinking i would use it more if i didn't have such a crappy laptop.

What do you all think? Its just things you can do I'm a laptop that you can't do on a iPhone or iPad, but do you all think it would be a good purchase for me? I've never had a mac before so this would be my first since i've been a long time windows user, but I'm just so tired of windows and have gradually growing into the apple ecosystem as you can see.

You guys think i should just suck it up and get one. I know i would be happy once its in my hand. Just getting up to go to the store an spend that money is hard for me. Lol

You should move to MacBook and you will love it forever. I used a Windows PC for years until I heard positive things about MacBook so I decided to try PowerBook G4 then I started to love it very much..So I went to bought a MacBook Pro last week. :)

If you are a content consumer, (e.g. read books, magazines, watch videos, etc.) an iPad, iPhone should be fine.

If you are a content producer, (e.g. write papers, blogs, create videos, images, etc.), you should definitely get a Mac.

I would say just do it, you won't regret it. I didn't. Even after all the money I spent on my old Dell XPS, I still should have bought the MBP 17 at the time. But after the HDD crashed out on the Dell and all of my data was lost, I just walked into a MicroCenter and bought one on their store credit for a little over $1000 after taxes. I love my MBP 13, and the only thing I want more out of it is the HDD, I just simply need more space. But in short, as pretty much everyone else has said, it is money well spent and you will not regret it. And if for some reason you do, you can send me your new MBP and Ill give it a good home for you.

Hey everyone,

I went through everyone comments and thought about it some more for the last 2 days and today i decided to just go and take the leap, and i got it today. I'm actually typing this reply on it now. I'm actually very happy i went to get it. It really is a great laptop and at least i don't have to worry about being in class and my laptop dying.

Thanks to all of you for your opinions. It really helped my decision. Now i can say my collection is pretty much complete and theirs nothing else i really want/need right now except iOS 5 lol. Okay let me not bring up that topic because I've seen to many threads about it already.

I've been using PCs since buying a Dell 286 second hand in 1988 - I've been through six or seven desktops and maybe a dozen laptops/notebooks/netbooks between home and work (Toshibas from work, Sony/HP/Samsung bought privately), and whilst I had both good (Sony and Samsung), mediocre (Toshiba) and downright bad (HP & Dell), nothing has compared to the sheer delight of the MacBook Pro 15" 8,2 I bought recently. I've wanted to move over to Mac for a decade or so, but the time/finances have never been right until now.

My Mac experience started in early July with an iPad 2, and I have since bought the MBP and an iPhone 4 - I'm totally hooked to the build quality, suberb integration and excellent service from Apple and don't see me ever moving back to the dark side from whence I came. My 18yo son who is just starting a computer science degree and until now a total Windows-addict is starting to show interest, especially as he has several Mac-based modules to do.

I moved from Windows to Mac in 2009 and haven't really looked back.

There's no registry or NTFS to contend with.

It's easy to transfer apps to a replacement Mac.

OS X is more robust.

The 17" MBPs have very good screens (even if they are TN panels). And far better battery life.

There are a few downsides, as with all things and I promise not to digress, but the pros easily outweigh the cons.

How often did you have to "contend" with NTFS or the registry?

If it was often then the problem must have been user oriented.

How I bought a Mac

Hey, I actually just bought a Mac at the beginning of the month. I have been wanting one for about 7 years (since the Macbooks were in white plastic). When I was about to buy mine I was actually holding back mainly do to the price. But I'm really happy with my Macbook Pro. They're not cheap compared to Windows based computers. But I must say that compareed to my brother's Windows 7 computer - there is no contest.
I was a bit hesitant in making the final jump too. But I'm glad with my purchase.
There is something so odd about a Mac...I turn it on and I don't have to wait 5-10 minutes for it to boot. I turn it off and it's off in less than 10 seconds. I open one program and it opens in less than 3 seconds. Basically, it's great all over. now I see why people are crazy over Macs

I think it should depend on how much you plan on using your computer. Macs are expensive pieces of machinery for certain. If you think you'll use it a lot, then buy it. If you don't think you'll use a mac a lot, then just buy a windows pc. It'll be a lot cheaper for ya haha

Then if you want to spend double or triple what any conventional laptop would cost for the same power
You are badly misinformed. MBPs are very high-spec machines, and spec-for-spec they sell at a pretty small premium.

To give a concrete example, my MBP 17 cost a little over £2k. The high-end Dell workstation laptop I had before it (and which was near-identical spec) cost a little over £1.8k.
