Hey guys,

So I got my brand new MacBook Pro 13'' with Touchbar and also got an Incase magnetic Sleeve for my MacBook. I was wondering if you guys think I should also buy one of Dbrand's skins to cover up the top and bottom parts of my laptop. Has anyone done this, what do you guys recommend?

Entirely subjective decision. My machines tend to not take much of a beating and I love the "naked" metal aesthetic.

This would be my 4th MBPro and I have always been kinda careful with them and have not had a serious dent of scratch. Lots depends on you and how you care for it. I am not fond of this skins but the do offer some protection against “light” scratches.

I put one on my 2016 13" TB after I got a very very small nick on the top. Its held up well and still looks good. I used iCarbons brushed titanium. I like the look, It reminds me of the naked look and I forget it is a skin.

I got the top, bottom and inside. I did not use the track pad piece though.

Personally I wouldn't. I didn't get a skin for my old macbook and it has held up fine. A few very minor nicks over more than seven years, that's all. I am considering the Incase neoprene sleeve for my (not yet delivered) 2018 13" MBP for when I'm out and about; it is inexpensive and looks great and feels like it would be effective at its task. I'm thinking this will be quite sufficient, protection-wise.

Do you guys think it's overkill if you already have a sleeve?

I have a skin for the bottom only. It the only place I have ever picked up scratches on mine in the past, probably from the slate table on the back deck and maybe some other tables/surfaces. It generally not noticeable on the bottom and keeps that bit protected. I don’t think I would enjoy seeing a skin on a noticeable surface

I personally have bestskinsever (matte) on my entire body including the touchbar, touchpad and palm areas of my MacBook. Can hardly see it there. Looks unprotected but it is.

Just installed this on mine, though just the trackpad and palm rest areas... nervous about sweat causing the AL to deteriorate (had that problem on a couple of much older MBPs, which might not be an issue anymore, but didn't want to chance it), and you're right, it's almost invisible, and still feels nice.

Those with Bestskinsever, I have used their products in the past on phones and tablets but on the laptop how do you avoid getting water into the vents ports during the install.

Get a clear skin. Easily reversible. Retains laptop's residual value.

I guess this depends on "how hard" you are with your laptops.
Some folks are gentle with them -- others, not so much.

I've never needed a cover, but I'm one of the "careful guys".
If you think you'll need a cover, by all means get one.
I'd want one with a lot of "holes" on the bottom for proper cooling.

Do skins/cases cause heat retention issues?
Logically there would be some retention, because the whole casing is aluminium, particularly the underside, which conducts heat really well and now you're putting something else (plastic) on top of it. That said - the casing isn't directly connected to any of the heat generating devices inside the laptop, and the underside would be facing a desk (or similar) most of the time, meaning not a whole lot of airflow going on there, so not a whole lot of cooling either. And the casing is all smooth, not corrugated like a heatsink. So the casing is obviously not intended to be a channel for heat dissipation. The aluminium is for structural rigidity, and looks, and 'premium feel'. Some additional heat transfer is basically purely incidental; it's the internal fans that do the vast majority of the cooling.

So a skin or a case should be fine - just don't cover any of the ventilation openings. Theoretically anyway lol - I haven't actually made any real-world comparisons. YMMV, let's say! ;)

I don’t see this company mentioned much, probably because they don’t spend as much on advertising. But the WrapSol MacBook skins have the best feel of all of the skins I’ve tried. They make the computer less slippery, so it’s not as easy to drop, and they look great too. Application is easy, and air bubbles disappear as it dries because the film is permeable.

Do you guys think the skins are not good for the MacBook's chassis? And do you guys think it's even worth it if you already have a sleeve, I just want the skin for safety.
