I would DEF wait.

I don't care how much you worked yourself up into a iPhone 4 frenzy... its not worth it to upgrade 3 months before the next gen version comes out

Your throwing away your money by buying an old version whose resale value is going to immediately plummet $150-250 dollars in a couple of months. :(

Patience my young padawan... patience ;)

Verizon or AT&T?

It really depends, the incredible is a great phone. I am assuming that you are on Verizon Wireless. I would go for it. The iPhone 4 is an excellent phone and has everything that I want in a phone (though, trust me you'll miss the free nav Android has).

If you are switching to AT&T, it may pay to wait for the new iPhone, but if you are on Verizon, the Verizon iPhone just got released this month. I will grant you that it isn't an unusual move for Apple to upgrade a 6 month old product, it has been done before with their laptops but it is rare that happens. Personally, I think the iPhone will have two release cycles, one for GSM (June), one for CDMA (December) though I admit I have no special knowledge and could be wrong. The way I see it is the next iPhone will be a minor upgrade, the following one you'll be able to buy so for me at lest it made sense to get the iPhone 4 which I am enjoying now. Good luck with ur decision.

you are probably right...difference is, I actually want a bigger screen, and would love LTE if they include it in this summers model =\

go to costco and get a HTC Inspire with a 4.3 inch screen. return policy is 90 days. take it back if an iphone comes out that you like

I haven't read all the responses, but you can always get the VZW iPhone 4 now, and if a new iPhone is announced for summer release, you can list your iPhone on eBay and/or CraigsList and make the majority of your money there. Then you can put that money towards a new unsubsidized iPhone 5 (or whatever it's called).

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Actually, to be more precise, HTC will release 2.3 gingerbread for only 4 of their devices by the end of JUNE.

So if you happen to have one of these 4 HTC phones, then you hit the lottery, you'll be able to update to 2.3 just when 2.4 and 3.0 are out.

Maybe of you manage to hang on to the phone to mid 2012 you MAY see an update IF HTC decides they want to update them.

The beauty of Android powered devices.

Please tell me what I'm missing here. I've read both your posts twice - once in serious context, and once as possible sarcasm. Either way it makes no sense at all!

And for the other Android aware - Gingerbread? Honeycomb? That's crazy stuff, even worse than various cats. What's next, Licky Charms?

OP: Wait. You won't regret it.

Epilogue: I don't think there will be an iPhone 5 this year. This prediction has no foundation in fact or rumor. What I think will happen will be a slightly updated iPhone 4 and updated OS. Look at the history:

1. Original iPhone --. iPhone 3G: 1 year. Reason: 3G network
2. 3G --> 3GS: 1 year. Reason: Hardware upgrade to handle previous OS updates and a few hardware dependent features such as more MP camera and video. Decent improvement, but still unable to take advantage of all OS4 features overall not powerful enough to run the OS well.
3. 3GS --> iPhone 4: 1 year. Reason: To provide the new total package to leap-frog ahead of the competition again. MAJOR hardware improvements - a real camera finally, the display, front facing camera and more. Plus all the new features of iOS 4 that all work without lag or performance hits.

4 years to re-create the "magic", if you will, of the original iPhone for its time. I just don't see that happening again in only a year, not even 50% of it. Instead, I'm predicting another version of the 4> They may still call it the 5, but that would not be accurate.

I agree 100%. There will be no 'show stopper' this year, just an OS update and maybe some 'under the hood' stuff. Certainly no large screen. Still, though, I'd wait. (I've got a 10 month old 3GS and I'm waiting for June to upgrade)

I've said this before, though: If Apple is feeling the heat from the competition, we might see a 3.7" screen in the same package. This should be easy enough for Apple to pull off and still call it 'retina'.

Keynote would go like this: "AND, we're giving you a bigger screen, but keeping the same size phone you know and love!" (the crowd goes wild)

A couple people have suggested that. However after looking at eBay and Craigslist, I've noticed that some of the Verizon iPhone 4s are going for even less than 350....and the new one hasnt even come out yet so that's not to say it wouldn't go down when it does. With Best Buy's Buy Back program, I will definitely get $350 back no matter what, unless my phone looks like crap, but id protect it. So I was thinking about using that program.

As far as it not being a huge upgrade is concerned, I know looking at its history it doesn't look like they would do anything crazy, but they also aren't used to someone as big as Android trying to take over the market. You can argue that as much as you want but look at stats. So they may feel they have to do more to stay ahead of the game ya know.

Idea

just thought of this while getting ready for work...what if i bought an 8gb ipod touch to somewhat curve my appetite lol...then I do most of what I could do on an iPhone 4, get apps I want and so on (can you Jailbreak and iPod touch?). Then when the iPhone 5 comes out, I will use my upgrade to get that, and sell the iPod touch...I believe I could then use the same apps I bought on the iPod on my iPhone right?....thoughts?

Agreed. If your update isn't until March 20th OP, I would definitely wait until the summer.

This is what I did with my android phone on sprint before getting an iPhone on AT&T. Your plan will work as stated. You can share apps between devices (I believe up to 5 iOS devices with the same itunes account).

The iPod touch 4th gen has a retina display but the quality is not as good as the iphone 4, and you don't have GPS or as good of a camera either. You can jailbreak an iPod just the same as iPhone.

And if you root your droid incredible, you can tether the ipod touch to get online using your droid's 3G connection. Look for "Wireless tether for root users".

Just do it

I've had a number of phones - to include all of the high end Androids and even an iPhone 3g. I was in much the same place as you find yourself - undecided about waiting or buying. I really like the Androids, solid advancement for technology but at a price. The price is sometimes when you are on the bleeding edge there are rough spots - software updates, poor battery performance, etc.

I made the jump to the Iphone 4 and based on the Thunderbolt release train wreck, I am glad I did. The jailbreak was already out and the battery life is really GOOD.

So you can wait if you want but don't wait based on "projected release" dates.

As much as we love the iphone4's, we have, I would just take a deep breath and wait a few more months! Chances are if you get it in march you will LOVE it. AND you will be so thrilled at the cool stuff you can do with it that is fast and straightforward.. BUT then come june, they will announce the newest one and you will think... why couldnt I wait a few months???

I bought a 3g right before the 3gs came out... if I had to do it again though I would have waited till the 3gs came out... I upgraded to the 4 when it came out anyway, and I will be upgrading at least 1 phone to the 5 when it comes out! but what I wont do is buy another one until the 5 is out... I can be patient when I am sure that the product is going to be on time as promised!

Best of luck!

Thanks everyone...I decided to get an 8gb iPod touch...haven't had time to mess with it much yet but I'm going to jailbreak it and I will report back with how I feel iOS...very excited!

My advice?
Don't be stupid and wait, you just have a few more months to go. But if you have the money to spend, then go for it.

I have a Droid Incredible now. It is a great phone and can probably last another year and half without any problems. I don't know what you're talking about with lag... the phone is super fast and keeps up with the competition even though it's been out for 10 months. With that being said, wait until July to get an iPhone 5. You can last with your Incredible for 4 more months. That's what I plan to do.

Let me explain a little further for those who missed it. I got an iPod touch, just to hold me off until the iPhone 5. When I get my iPhone 5, I will sell the iPod touch for most of what I paid for it and not really be out much. Then all the stuff I had for and on my iPod will easily work on and with my iPhone...awesome.

I would hold off on the jailbreak for now. Just get to know it as is, make sure it's solid and you don't have to take it back and worry about having to reverse the jailbreak.

Smart move. :)

I got a 3gs right about this time last year, and although it's been great and still is pretty good, I can't say I've never regretted not waiting 3 months.

Hang in there! :D

PS. I also got an iPod Touch 4G, which is not bad, but once iPad2 comes out, it'll be listed on eBay pronto.

1) And so it goes.

2) iOS 4.3 is coming out this or next week. I will update the second it comes out. So will everyone with an iOS device that supports it.

1) The fact that Android comes in a few different versions does not indicate a problem.

2) You are guessing. I for one will not update my iPhone 4. I like it just as it is. Newer is not always better. Just like over 50 fart apps on iTunes only impresses little boys.

Apple also features apps that teach sexual positions. Pretty hypocritical once you've heard Steve Jobs take on porn. He's the Master sensor that decides what you can or cannot put on your standard iPhone.
