In high school? No. Don't buy it. I'll tell you why, although I want to warn you I'm going to sound like a crabby old man:

Save the $400 you'd put down on the Watch, because you'll thank yourself when it's time to get a car or whatever. You have an iPhone, which is still pretty awesome for a teenager. Enjoy that. There will no doubt be another Apple Watch some day, so hold off until another day.

It may sound ridiculous, but it is justified, as the avenues for cheating are becoming more and more inconspicuous. Think about it: Are you looking at your watch to tell the time, or to get an answer or 15 on a test?

With smart watches, teachers/professors couldn't tell the difference, so it would serve better to eliminate those from class.

Not that I agree with the decision, but the justifications for it are there.

BL.
So you mean the watches are banned during an exam. That would almost go without saying. But most of the time you're in class you're being lectured, not taking an exam. I find it hard to believe schools are banning watches being used as a watch — you can take them off during a test.

What colleges are banning them outright? The only thing remotely similar that I've been able to find is that some colleges are saying they can't be worn during an exam, which is completely reasonable.

Banned was the wrong word... Not allowing I suppose is more appropriate. Internet enabled devices must be removed and turned off during exams (understandable) and Profs are given the discretion to allow devices in the class or ask them to be removed/turned off/or not come in the room at all. They don't like the distraction... Texts, sport scores updates, etc. It's not the noise, it is the lack of attention. Family members attending college locally haven't purchased smart watches because they have profs who don't want them in class and they said it's not worth the hassle to take them on and off for certain classes, and risk loosing them or irritating the prof for disregarding their rules. It's at the discretion of the Prof, not widespread organizational bans, but it has come up across several regional campuses at different levels for the last year or so.

Yup, and I've had professors that wouldn't allow computers to be used to take notes. Professors always have final say about what goes on in their classroom. With that said, outside of an exam I can't imagine any of my professors giving a **** about my watch as long as Im not obviously distracted by it; same as my phone.

I'm in high school and I bought one on pre-orders. I also am an early adopter of a lot of tech, and I usually get stuff on launch day. I get a lot of crap from everyone, i.e., "Why would you spend $800 on a phone", "Why would you camp out for a phone?", "Why would another iPad, you just bought one last year?", "Why would you buy a new iPhone every year?", "Why would you spend $400 on a watch?"...etc.

I would say to go for it if you have the money and you really want it. That's what I did, and although I get a lot of crap for it, I really don't care because it's something I enjoy and I can afford it, so why not?

They will be ban from classes by time the new school year starts in August/Sept...just watch. You can probably get away with it now since they aren't really popular yet.
