WWDC 2017 or Fall 2017. Nothing sooner. No chance.

mbps do get march updates fairly frequently.
in this case, new chips are right around the corner and oh consumer reports just slammed them in the nuts.
i'd say march for a soft update w/ chips and addressing battery issue pretty likely

I don't think there's gonna be a March update. If you can/are willing to wait until next fall then it might be worth it as the next chips should improve the battery life, the only real fault most people are finding. I didn't wait bc I couldn't but I don't really regret it because I needed the computer and am really enjoying it after 7 years with my outdated one.

I'd give you 100 to 1 odds they won't. Just because you WANT them to doesn't mean they will. They still aren't even caught up with orders being placed and likely won't until end of January.

The "issues" you discussed were blown out of proportion. If there was a battery issue, it's not something they can address in 6 weeks, you clearly don't understand R&D and manufacturing process.

If you can I would wait until next year, but if you need it right away, I would get it and resell in 2018.

...
I got the 1TB Samsung SSD after two years of purchasing the 2011 MBP. I replaced my optical drive with that extra SSD. It does have some OK speeds occasionally but overall it is not usable.

Most 2011 MBP's can't use SSD in the optical drive bay. I have mine in the original HDD bay and HDD in the optical drive bay. That works great. But I cannot use SSD in the optical drive bay.

You should switch SSD to the HDD bay and put HDD in the optical drive bay.
The performance will be night and day.

As for 2016 MBP, it seems like a crap shoot at this point on how good of a computer you get. Some are very satisfied, and others are not. It does seem it has more issues than 2015 MBP.

What's most frustrating to me is the middle 2 cells on the 15" really look like they could have been bigger.

You realize that the cells have to be balanced? They are in series, so each cell must have exactly the same capacity. Looking (again) at the 15, here's a way to make the cells bigger: In each corner stack two thin L shaped beveled corner cells, while leaving the cells under the track pad a single layer but bigger. Perhaps Apple had difficulty making an irregularly shaped cell of the correct capacity.

I voted "wait" not because I think there will be an update in March, but because it will provide Apple a chance to more completely correct the numerous reported issues with the new 15" MBs. The earliest I'd think we'd see any sort of update is around WWDC in June, which would be 8 months out.

WWDC would give Apple a chance to incorporate updated processors, etc., as well as a face-saving way to put the issues around the launch of the 2016s to bed.

Perhaps Kaby Lake + LPDDR4, but besides a little better battery life don't expect too much from such an update. Performance wise there won't be a big gain.

Yea, the update might try and make the laptop more reliable in battery life and get a bit of performance boost, but it won't make the 2016 MBP seem like a completely underpowered laptop. The 2016 MBP will still perform good, but the updated MBP version will just be more perfected from the feedback they get from these following months.

Interface speed in optical drive is only SATA 2. HDD Bay interface speed is SATA 3. There is a speed bump but not enough to justify an SSD in the optical drive.

March update. LOL...you're funny.

But seriously, I think Apple will milk the current MBP much longer than that before upgrading. Making changes so soon would be admitting they were wrong.
Kaby Lake is around the corner, but I don't see a new version until the end of 2017.

I was planning on buying a new MacBook Pro for College and Video editing since my old MacBook Pro is hopeless. I was planning on buying the MacBook Pro with these specifications:
- 15"
- 1TB SSD
- Radeon 460
- i7 2.9GHz Turbo Boost to 3.8GHz

But I have been doing some digging of my own in these forums and I have seen rumors about a Kaby Lake CPU possibly coming out on the March Update and some improvements to the laptop itself.

Im not sure if these rumors are true or Apple will make them happen, I just want your opinion if I should buy the MacBook Pro now or wait instead?
Uh yeah. First of all, you're going to need a new avatar...
