What should I do? Use and discharge or charge until full?

  • Use it until discharged, and then fully charge it!

  • Don't open it, first charge it until green led, then use it!

  • Just use it, plugged or unplugged, it doesn't matter!

Finally my beloved M2 is here!

But i'm not sure if I should charge it first, before opening it? What's your opinion?

If you don’t, it’ll explode in flames within 8 months. Wait, no, if you do it will.

Seriously, enjoy your new machine and don’t overthink this. Life is too short.
I dont blame him for asking, these aren't cheap chrome books, people seem ti hold onto their Macs longer then Windows stuff

AFAIR the batteries are already calibrated and about 3/4 charged when apple sends out new machines so it really doesn’t matter if you charge it or just use your MacBook without charging.
The last time I bought a new Mac was eight years ago and that machine already had 3 or so cycles on the battery.

My wife asked me this same question the other day about her new M2 MacBook Air. Yes, we can only look forward to even better battery technology over time. Awesome computer, enjoy.

Use it. Charge it whenever but I'd try and keep above 15%.
Never discharge it fully.
This is generally my feeling about how to handle devices with modern batteries. Avoiding draining the battery to 0% is the thing that seems to improve battery longevity most.

I still also have OCD about charging a new device before I use it though

I could not resist the $749 price of the M1 base at Costco last December. For what I do, it is more than enough and fast.
