I think with a high end 15inch PB you could run quite a few good games americas army if you like shooters and you cant beat the price, an if you were willing to sacrafice beauty in alot of the newer games I think they would run fine. So deffinitely I would say going all mac will work great for you.

Actually about the games I don't really care. I mean the actual games I'll be playing are actually applications heheh

although new macs with an intel chip are coming, I don't really care for the next year because a 15 inch would suffice. Has I said if I get better with pro apps and I know I will because I put a lot of effort into learning, my next step will be a powermac with intel chips. Considering I play with apps for the fun of it now, when matels powermacs are out I'll consider a desktop. I just love powerbooks and the fact that I have powerfull system that I can be used on the road or at home!

Because you already have the ultimate portable in a 12" PowerBook, I would take a hard look at how much you're spending on a single G4 processor.

I just priced out a well equipped 1.67 GHz 15" PowerBook,
leaving out the expense of any extra RAM

(education)

• 512MB DDR333 SDRAM - 1 SO-DIMM
• 100GB Ultra ATA drive @ 5400 rpm
• 8x SuperDrive (DVD±RW/CD-RW)
• 1.67GHz PowerPC G4 w/128MB VRAM dual
• AirPort Extreme Card
• Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
• ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
• 15.2-inch TFT Display

Subtotal $2,279.00

Now compare that to what you can get for about the same money in a Dual 2.3 GHz G5.

• Dual 2.3GHz PowerPC G5
• 512MB DDR400 SDRAM (PC3200) - 2x256
• 250GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
• ATI Radeon 9600 w/128MB DDR SDRAM
• 16x SuperDrive double-layer (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
• Apple Keyboard & Apple Mouse - U.S. English
• Mac OS X - U.S. English

Subtotal $2,299.00

OR....

An Apple Certified Rev B Dual 2.0 G5 for $1649.00
add an Apple 20" ACD for $699 and you've got a damn sweet setup for $2348.00

Hi guys and girls

Well a lot has changed since I posted this earlier this week.

I Have looked every where and alloked at all possibilities.

I have decided to stay portable and see what happens with future release of powerbook computers.

I looked at 15 and 17 inch powerbooks

I've come across 2 deals on used powerbooks

One is a 15 inch with the following:

OS X 10.3.9
1.5 GB DDR SDRAM
128MB DDR ATI Mobility Radeon Graphics
80 GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive 5400 RPM
AirPort Extreme
Superdrive
Gigabit Ethernet
Firewire
*APPLE Bluetooth Mouse
**APPLE wheel power supply, and normal power supply (see photo)
***APPLE CARE EXTENDED WARRANTY: (over 2 years left on warranty)
****NEW BATTERY (1 week old) from apple recall
No issues, works well, minor scuffs from NORMAL use.
Will reinstall OS once payment made
Will leave MS OFFICE and SPSS 11.0 if buyer wishes.

I think I could deal it for around 2100$ Is it worth it ?? too expansive
There will be 2 years left of applecare in Sept/Oct

The second one is a 17" powerbook

A Rev"D 17" powerbook
Comes with the config found on apple.com
Still 9 months off original warranty

There aren't really any accessories besides the regular ones.

The guys is asking:
2150US + my iPod G4 20gig with couple accessories I offered him.

Both sellers are in my area, so local pick up is the way to go.

I was wondering what you guys thought about that ??

Thank you!

Nick

as long as the 17" isn't too big for you i would certainly go with that. the 17" is beautiful. way out of my price range, but some day it will be mine.

p.s. if you decide to sell your pc... i would estimate that you could get around 700-800.

Hehehe you are kidding right ?
IT is worth much more!
The monitors themselves are worth something like 450-500. Anyway I know I could get them for that price!

Hmmm I guess I could get the 17, I don't think its too good for me but I'll need to buy a new bag heheh

thanks

I did it. Bought a powerbook 12" 2 years ago. Sent my Pc to may dad, and bought an iMac a week ago.And now I don't want to see anything without an apple on it!!! If you really need games, get yourself a PS and you'll be fine.

dont ditch the PC totally, there are a few things that a PC does better than a Mac, not many, but a few.

DVD shrink is what it dos better....

Man i would love that to be released for mac...

ShadOW

I purchased my pbook about 3 months ago, and haven't touched my desktop PC since.
However I wouldn't want to get rid of it, simply cause of the games.

I'm not mad about console games for a number of reasons including the prices, and the variety of mac games just cannot compete with the selection for PC.

As much as i love my mac, I think it makes good sense to have a pc in the house (or office).

Remember variety is the spic of life.....
