after reading that article I don't see how it supports the statement that 4.3 must be downloaded for security reasons.

what's the connection between the bug mentioned (exploited in a competition) and any fixes in 4.3?

Here is the full list of security fixes made to iOS 4.3 that can get you infected just by viewing a web page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4564

Note the huge length of the list.

There are also many more vulnerabilities that Apple has not fixed yet as shown by Pwn2Own, but it is better to have some security fixes than none at all.

All i can say is it's been absolutely brilliant for me. I really don't get how people are having issues with the update...but then again there have always been complaints after each and every update thus far.

*shrug*

I have the same concerns as the OP...I was generally going to upgrade to 4.3, but then I read about all these various problems assocated with 4.3. I'm still debating of whether to remain at 4.2 for now, or take a leap of faith and upgrade to 4.3.

Personally, I don't see any point in 'upgrading' to 4.3!

I don't have Apple TV so Airplay is of no use to me, don't have the need for Personal Hotspot as I don't have any other Wi-Fi compatible devices that I would link to my iPhone 4, and finally (which is probably the deal breaker for me!), in 4.3, pretty much all of the text tones have been cut in half

Sorry - but I like the length of my text tones in 4.2.1.

4.3 can kiss my @$$....!!!!! :D:p

Same here... I run TVersity from my PC to the PS3 to stream anything (not just apple approved formats) to my HDTV (and there's nothing on my phone I'd want to stream to a TV either way). My ATT signal sucks, so there's no way I'd tether even if it were free.

I've got all my music on my iPhone (about 20 gigs) and I don't buy all my movies (or any) through Itunes, so there's no point in home sharing for me.

As far as most of the security issues, that 3.5" screen is a joke to browse on, so that's not much of an issue either since I rarely use it. Also, the odd chance that a hacker is going to hack into my iphone via WiFi and (gasp) make it shut down doesn't exactly keep me awake at night.

Good that Apple is keeping up on all this, no doubt, but it's meh for me.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8F190 Safari/6533.18.5)

Safari seems much faster with 4.3.

Personally I'm waiting for the 4.3 JB to upgrade. I can already tether with Tetherme so other than the Safari improvements I can wait.

so its impossible for a device to have something go wrong after an update and everyone is making stuff up?

nice logic there...."Im not having problems so no one else is!!!!"

I have a 3GS and 4.3 is the first update that I wish I would have skipped. Battery has not been affected much, but my phone is just a bit jittery now. It doesn't respond like it used to and it just doesn't run as smoothly. I'd like to go back.

No--as with any upgrade--some have problems but most have no issues. After a week with the upgrade on my 3GS, my battery life has actually improved--and no adverse issues whatsoever. :)

going to 4.2 from 4.1???

I have 4.1. when 4.2 came out and i synced, it asked to download and update to 4.2 or download only. I downloaded only and 4.2 has been on my mac desktop since it came out. now i want to update to 4.2. how can i do it? when i sync now it gives me the choice to download and update or download only, but its 4.3?
sorry if confusing. but just want to try 4.2 right now, oh and i'm not jailbroken or unlocked.
thanks

I personally haven't seen any issues with 4.3. BUT that doesn't discount the issues many people are seeing. About 30% of the iPhone owners I talk to say they are now charging their phones either before they leave the office for the day or in the car on the way home; a couple of hours earlier than normal.

If storage is an issue, heck yes.
I have about 20 720p movies in iTunes, and there's no way in the world they can fit inside a 32GB iPhone 4. So, I keep iTunes running and use it as a sort of a home media server, watching any movies I want without taking up space on the iPhone.

I updated my iPad to 4.3 the other day (which took FOREVER... holy crap that was irritating), and I have not noticed anything different at all. I haven't updated my iPhone yet because, well... Verizon.

4.3 is good, but it has annoying issues with unwanted push connections being formed from email and the appstore, you can get rid of them but it's irritating to do it every time you sync up

That's great for you if you're not having problems.
However at this point, after hundreds of users reported this problem (yes not exaggerating: between the Apple forums, right here and several other places), it's a little annoying to hear people saying "oh people complain after each update anyway".

Maybe the only way for you to "get how people are having issues" would be to experience your phone suddenly dying in situations where it never would have before yourself.

The OP is asking if he should upgrade. It's reasonnable to warn him..

I Haven't had any trouble with 4.3
My Macbook Pro's charger stopped working, so I've had to use my iPhone for everything, Safari is vastly improved. I can still stream to my Apple Tv, and I've seen absolutely no difference in Battery Life. For me, the upgrade was worth it, it's always good in my Opinion to have the latest updated software you can.
