But it now

I bought my first iPod many years ago, my iPod Photo, imagine. I knew my iPod would be outdates some time soon, but decided to buy it and months later the iPod Video came out.

Then when the iPod Touch came out I found myself viewing at a completely different iPod so I bought the first generation of the iPod Touch, knowing that soon a newer would appear and that did happen, but I really don't regret having bought it before because the iPT second generation and third generation didn't change that much and I enjoyed my iPod two more years because I bought it before.

The same here with the iPad, it's really a matter of knowing that technology is invented to be updated so if you really want to enjoy it and like it the way it is now, why not buy it?

I would have been happy to buy the first iPhone and maybe by this time I would have changed it by an iPhone 4, when the changes are really seen and clear.

Hope this helps you decide.

I would buy the iPad now, then update to the Gen 2 if it has anything major that I like, and then I would update to the Gen 3, if it has any features that I like.

Or you could listen to the others... but if you are going to wait you might as well wait for the iPad chip that gets inserted into your brain. I heard it gives you powers like superman.

I seriously doubt apple will launch next ipad by April 2010. Apple is having enough problem with launching ipad on other countries. So, if they release ipad 2 so soon, then they will be upsetting their international customers. If I was apple, I would hold off until Fall of 2011.

Now my Question is should I get the iPad now or wait?:apple:
Only you can decide the answer to this question.

Apple has been updating the iPhone each year during the summer and the iPod touch during the fall (September). If they follow that method with the iPad, we'll see an updated iPad in spring 2011 (around April).

No one knows what new features the iPad 2 will have. Maybe it will only be a memory increase (RAM from 256MB to 512MB and storage up to 128GB) or there may be other updates such as a front side camera for FaceTime. A year (or in this case 9 months) is a long time. If you purchase an iPad now, you can enjoy using until the new iPads are released. When new iPads are release you can always sell your old one and then get an iPad 2.

psft, wait for the iPad 3, or iPad 4, or iPad 60.

playing the waiting game will get you no where, there always will be something else around the corner eventually. it only pays to wait when history shows that an update is days away, if then. if you need/want an iPad now: then get it. if you're not sold on it, then don't. no one can tell you how to spend your money.

I was going to wait for iPad 2 but I made the plunge anyway, this technology is only about 3 months + old and hard to find in stores already, and I figure I'd get version 2 next year (facetime able or not) so there will be 2 iPads in the house in 2011. Next time I'll go for the 3G. Advice from a 32G Wifi owner, pony up and get the 3G if you can afford it. One way to prevent regretting not getting it when you're on the road w/o wifi.

Hi,
So I finally can afford a iPad. I was originally going to just wait for the iPad 2. Then I thought I should get the iPad now and not wait because I don't know anyone with Facetime, I really want one and other people are saying to other people like me just to get it now. Now my Question is should I get the iPad now or wait?:apple:

Don't waste your money on that garbage, or any Apple product for that matter. Save your money and buy something reasonably priced. iPad was NOT Apple's original idea. They copied it from existing products, and the only reason people pay what they do is because it bears the Apple logo.

Get the Ipad now, as long as it fully satisfies you needs. If you wait for teh Ipad2 you will probably find that you waited 6+months for a product's extra features you didn't really need. Technology is outdated the second you get it anyway so, get what you want when you want it!

I would honestly wait, and this is coming from someone with an iPad already. The new features introduced in the iPhone 4 are very likely to appear on the next gen iPad. A absolutely fantastic screen, FaceTime, faster processor, etc. The iPad isn't something like a cell phone, that is used all day everyday, but is more of a luxury. Because of this, I feel like waiting for one isn't really a huge deal. It'll be worth it to wait, trust me.

And an iPhone isn't a luxury?

quote from Anandtech's review of ip4:

"...The 512MB of RAM was an unexpected surprise, and a giant disappointment to iPad users. The extra memory comes in handy while multitasking, something the iPad won't be able to do until this fall. By then it's probably only a few more months until updated iPad hardware, which will almost certainly feature the same 512MB of RAM as the iPhone 4. It does mean the early iPad adopters got shafted a bit. They got a much lower density screen and less memory than the iPhone 4, despite a higher upfront cost.

I'm not terribly happy with this but I suspect the best move at this point is to hold off on buying an iPad until you see what the next generation will offer, If it's anything like the 4, it'll be worth the wait..."

I experienced the low-memory issue with ipad first hand and returned it after 3 weeks of usage. low-memory caused Safari to reload page when you swap between pages. multitasks coming this fall will make this issue worse.

The iPhone 3GS has the same amount of RAM as the iPad. It manages multi-tasking just fine with iOS4. I'm not disputing your experience, but I wonder how you know multi-tasking will be poor on the iPad without being able to try it out?
Apple is taking a long time to release iOS4 for iPad. There has to be a reason for it. We'll see what iPad specific features they offer.

We don't know when the iPad will be updated let alone what updates we will see.

OP, if the current iPad would be useful for you then I would suggest getting one now so you can enjoy using it. Beats waiting.

Only wait if you don't need an iPad, if it is something you will only use here and there instead of daily.

As sushi said, no one knows when the updates will come. Though Apple was ready to jam more tech into the iPad, it cropped it in ver.1 for price point. There is no doubt the next iPad will be decked out with more stuff, however it is suffering parts shortages. It will be months before Apple can seriously drive iPad construction and sales even harder.

Due to the market want/need, Apple will begin focusing on keeping iPad at the edge of smaller-faster-more battery life. Present demand is hurting ability to supply, though. The next release could be as far off as April 2011.

Ultimately, it boils down to this:

Buy the iPad now if you need one.

or

Wait at least 9 months, if not more, until the new iPad comes out.

$500 isnt enough to buy an iPad. Seriously don't get the 16GB model......you're crazy if you do....save up the extra $100 and go for the 32GB at least!

I couldn't disagree more. For most users 16 wifi is the sweet spot. Why store converted video content when you can stream it well and easily with air video for 99 cents? Pandora streams, etc. Most people have an iPod for music anyway.

Even with my photography I haven't come close to filling a 16 gig. To me paying for anything more than the base model is too expensive to justify for such an overlapping product. If I was spending $900 it would be on a real computer, not an ipad. As always ymmv, I just dint like how so many seem to know what's best for everyone else.

Get it. Enjoy it. Upgrade down the road if (and when) a better model comes out with features you might actually want.
