congrats!!!

are you happy with it? .. any performance issues?

There are no performance issues with the RMB. None. Those who perceive performance issues simply didn't do the research beforehand. RMB isn't for gaming. Anyone who knows how to use Google knows this.

I think you hit the nail on the head .. and pretty much summed it up for all of us who are on the fence about the rMB by saying .. "you need to prioritize what characteristics are most important to you and what programs you will run on it." ..

Exactly. Remember that next time please.

I disagree with Bolt James' statement that "Those who perceive performance issues simply didn't do the research beforehand. RMB isn't for gaming." Even outside of gaming, the Core M GPU shows its weaknesses. I often find the machines stutters with something as simple as scrolling down an iTunes App Store app page.

Let me remind you that I don't run OSX, I run Windows 10 under Boot Camp, so our perceptions may vary on that account.

If you are finding stuttering while scrolling in iTunes, well, perhaps that's an Apple software issue. In the Microsoft OS environment, none of this happens at all, iTunes for Windows has no such instability, thing is solid as a rock no matter how many apps I have open and engage with.

"Apps" being defined as what 99% of the notebook world uses on a daily basis. Outlook Email, Outlook Calendar, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Dropbox, Skype, Firefox, Slingbox, iTunes, Photoshop. If one is a typical businessman or student, the new MacBook is fantastic. If one is a gamer or a videographer or a coder, this isn't the machine for you and never never ever was intended for you. Apple makes other machines for those hardcore tasks.

Im loving this damn machine so much! I do have a 2015 inch beast that was CRU'd by apple earlier this year, but I mainly use my Space Gray Macbook as my "iPad". Anybody having performance issues with El Cap? mine came with Yosemite out of the box, but I don't want to bother with EL Cap If it kills my battery, or slows her down..Any personal insight would be nice from someone who has the machine, thank you!

I noticed these problems too, but they were all related to Yosemite. El Capitan was a huge upgrade with UI lag

I made an El Cap 10.11.1 installation thumb drive from my iMac and when I first opened my rMB I booted immediately from USB and reformatted the hard drive and installed it clean. When I did this I think it updated the recovery drive to El Cap and I have had zero issues with it. Battery life seems fine. I haven't used it enough to get below 40% but I think I would get close to 9 hours when editing Word docs, checking email, using messages and doing light coding in Xcode. I turn off the keyboard lighting when not required and keep the display at about 65%.

I'm not in the I.T. industry .. I don't code .. I don't even need my laptop at work .. my laptop is strictly for email, social media, downloading and watching movies, youtube and simple stuff like that ..

I have the MBP 15" 2012 edition and it's perfect .. fast .. never a problem ..

I just have a thing for laptops and notebook computers .. even before they were so popular and bulky and ugly .. I love exploring the potential of a personal computer (esp. a notebook) can do .. so I have this MBP 15-incher .. and other lots of airs and PC notebooks have come and gone over the years ..

I saw the rMB at the store .. and my jaw dropped .. it's the future of computing .. I LOVED IT .. loved the retina screen .. but I don't need it .. I have no use it except just to buy it for fun .. I really really REALLY want it .. I can sort of afford it, too .. so should I get it .. or is it just a waste? .. I can't decide .. someone help make the decision easier for me, please!!! ..
I have a 2015 15" MBP, 13" MBA and the new MacBook, I find the MacBook a very nice laptop.

For my purposes it's ideal. By deliberately typing at about half speed for just one day, I easily adapted to the shallow key travel and now I can type at my normal rapid speed, easily switching between my various laptops with ease.

Performance wise it's also very nice, as I'm a realist, knew it wasn't a rocket when I bought it and therefore I had reasonable expectations.

The portability is nearly too good to be true. So light, thin and easy to slip into any bag I have, it's better than I had hoped it would be. Since I've been using mine, four other friends have bought one for themselves and all are quite pleased.

That's about as good as it gets. :D

I totally agree. I can easily carry it anywhere I would bring my iPad but have full OS X capability. Also, it looks awesome and I still can't get over how good the speakers are...makes for a great movie platform when watching in bed. Any compromises for processor speed is easily outweighed by portability and modern style...at least for what I use it for.

yes, that is my #1 concern .. I'm used to a large screen ..

That is a good point. I dock when I am at work most of the time. If you are using a 13" laptop it is not a big change, but I could see someone coming from a 15"+ really struggling with the smaller real-estate.

but I don't need it

I don't know what more needs to be said in this thread. If you don't need it then buy it as a a whim and realize that for most people, the price is high for just a whim of a purchase.

Ha! At this point OP, I'd say just flip a coin. Or consult with your inner-voice for as long as you need. I think this thread has gotten to the point where it's more you debating in your head, than solicityhinge useful feedback. head, not faulting you for that, because I'm guilty of it myself. I just don't typically post such debates that are raging inside my head, on public forums.

Good luck!

I've owned the 2015 Retina MacBook since May and I absolutely love it, it's the best notebook I've ever had.

Should I return it?
