It has nothing to do with the app store from a technical perspective. It removes one of the reasons people would want to take the time to hack it.

The geeky in nature are still going to want to 'control' their devices. And since they're not making money off this (well some of the developers are that distribute apps), I doubt that has a strong influence at all in the delay of a 2gen method. Especially since the app store was out during the 1st gen, and we've seen them successfully break each firmware release within days.

Itouch 2nd Gen Jailbreak

Your obviously new so i wanna be the 1 to tell u.

YOU CANNOT JAILBREAK THE SECOND GENERATION IPOD TOUCH IF YOU ARE NOT AN ABSOLUTE EXPERT WITH THE DEVICE...

Ok, just in case people still can't understand why a 2Gen can't be jailbroken : http://www.ipodtouchanswers.com/ipod-touch/jailbreaking-2nd-gen-touch/

And for those who can Jailbreak (in case you're wonder why, which people have already said dozens of times all over the net) : http://www.ipodtouchanswers.com/touch-life/what-can-be-jailbroken-how-and-why/

It finally has been broken. It's a tethered break but it's broken.

edit: I neglected to post my link. I watched my son jail break his this morning.

Well there's no official release from iphone-dev team yet, they said it's possible (which I noted in a later blog entry, though I haven't updated my older post yet), but its still too manual to be useful to the general public. Redsn0w is very close to completion though.

Personally I'd encourage most to just wait for an official quickpwn/pwnagetool for the 2nd gen that works the same way the tools work for the 1st gen to be on the safe side. It shouldn't take em long after they already figured it out. But its' good news indeed (might actually bring the prices down on the 1st gen some more :D lol)

There is no jailbreak out yet for the new 2nd Generation iPod Touches.

In fact, the team that releases the jailbreak tools just got their shipment of new 2nd Gen Touches yesterday, so it may be a little while before we see jailbreaking. I'm constantly checking the blog of their site to see how they're coming along with the new tool... http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

i dont know where you get your info

Go Ahead!

Before I begin, STOP CALLING IT iTouch! IT'S FIRKIN CHILDISH, AND ANNOYS ME TO DEATH! TYPE IT iPod touch, NO EXCEPTION!

Now, about the jailbreak....

You can un-do the jailbreak any time by doing a full software restore, so if your iPod touch is broken, you can re-do the firmware.

So, my suggestion, if you want even more freedom on your iPod touch, go ahead!

(note: 2nd gen jailbreak is still in beta, and unstable. Wait till the final release, before Apple pulls another software update)
