Believe me, the iPad was the very first thing I considered, then I thought about it and said no. I already have an iPhone 3GS and an iMac. So all I needed was something portable to take around with me but then again having power to do things and being able to multitask. I also love snow leopard to lol and much rather be running that than the iPhone OS.

Overall, how is the MacBook Pro 2.26GHz version? Is battery life good when surfing the web, watching movies, on youtube, and etc. Can I get atleast 4 hours out of it? Does it ever get hot and is it quiet and not noisy?

I have tons of questions since I'm about to be a first time macbook owner! All in all is the base model a good machine and have enough power to do what I want and more.

The base model should give you all the power you need and more to do the basic tasks you mentioned. I found the battery life to be pretty good abet not ~7 hours good (as promoted)...you should be able to get at least 4 hours out of it though before you're forced to plug in the power cord. It doesn't get too hot all that often and it's anything but noisy.

I keep mine hooked up the my 24" cinema display about 80% of the time and use it almost as an iMac of sorts, so I admit that I don't lug it around as much as the average Joe. I like that I can simply unplug the power cord, mini display and USB cables and throw it in my Apple sack and hit the road if I need/want to. I think you'll find that sometimes it's nice to get out of the house to do work or get stuff done. I used to have just and iMac and an iPhone and found even that to be too limiting, so I made the switch to the MBP and cinema display and so far I couldn't be happier! :D

Personally, I think you made the right choice. Sure, the new one might come out in a few days, but when I got mine last year, a lot of people said that would be coming out with the new MacBooks. It didn't, and I'm glad I went against my "Just a few more days" gut feeling.

Battery life, it's decent enough for me when out and about, and I usually have a good few programs running at the same time. Also, I know that if I need more oomph I can just get some more RAM, a new hard drive, whatever, and it'll tide me over for a good while. Lets be honest, though, you'll be fine for a ages with what you have without needing to upgrade. I use Garageband a good bit, and it's fast enough for all that.

And yes, Kenzembo, nothing like getting out and about without losing any funtionality from indoors(Provided you find a wi-fi hotspot.)

I've never owned a MacBook before and I was considering getting just a 13' MacBook Pro, the base model or the 2.53GHz model. I already own a iMac so if I get the MacBook Pro, I'll only be using it for just the basics such as web browsing, word processing, youtube, hulu, and probably a few movies from time to time. I will not be doing any photo or video editing on this.

My question is, with what I'm going to do with it and the MacBook Pro I'm considering (13 inch model), is it even worth it to wait for the new ones? Do you think the design will change or stay the same? Do you think there will even be a drastic spec bump on the 13' models? This will only be used for personal home use to do basic things as mentioned above.

I'm just looking for opinions! Thanks.

Does an iPad not interest you?

What's wrong with a netbook?
I've got a great Dell Mini Mac Netbook. For what you're doing it would perform just fine and would've saved you loads of money ;)

I honestly just wanted another mac. However, I have no problem with using Windows 7. I'm not all for mac just like I'm not all for windows, I'm stuck in the middle :D

I'll use any OS except Vista (I had way to many problems). I know a netbook would of saved me money but I realllllly wanted a MacBook Pro!

=I just browsed the apple store and noticed that the 17" MBP's only come in 2.8 or 3.06.......Is that the only two models you can currently buy? Is there no 2.66 model?

Just buy a macbook...it will be enough for your needs...or if you want a MBP then wait ...

or you can also look at the air...its a pretty nice machine and should do your work easily!

its pretty cheap right now at the refurb store!
