After watching a few reviews on the iPhone 8, I’ve kind-of ruled it out. It’s just such a tired design and the huge bezels and LED display just look old. The design language of new phones in the past year has been bezel-less and OLED. Even pop-up shops like the Essential Phone have this language. It’s ridiculous that Apple hasn’t done this across the board and I think they’re going to get slapped with really low sales of this iPhone 8. For those reasons I don’t want to give Apple one dollar for this device.

My other option, then, is the iPhone X. The iPhone X is what I think all iPhones should now be. It’s caught up to the competition and gone a little bit above and beyond. But I have a tough time justifying the cost. $1,000 is a lofty price for a device this... small. I mean, you can get a MacBook for the price. I also have to keep in mind the possibility that I’ll be buying an expensive OLED iPad Pro to upgrade my Pro 9.7 in the spring.

My third option is to keep my 6s until next year and hope for some less expensive edgeless models from Apple.

I guess what I’m asking is, what is your guys’ justification for buying the iPhone X and secondly, do you think there will eventually be sales for the X?

I just want a bigger better screen and the dual improved cameras without the bulk of the Plus size.

The carriers will probably do sales of some sort eventually but it might not be much of one.

If I was honest, I would tell you to get the iPhone X, but since it will be in very limited quantity, please don't buy it.

You're assuming the ipad will be OLED in spring. I think that's later. I do know there's 13" OLED panels for dell, hp and some other makers. So maybe they could ramp that up. I'd like to see Apple investing more in OLED supply.

I don't think the high price is going away even next year in phones. If you want better it's always better to wait. Given that this is first gen and you seem to hold on to phones, you may be better off waiting or get the 8 on discount this fall.

I think Ming Chi Kuo is usually right (he was exactly right about this year’s iPad release) and he’s predicted OLED iPads in 2018. Waiting until the fall is a good idea. Maybe I could even hold off until after any new iPads are released.

Any new iPhone purchase is now centered around preferences and personal financial situations.

When we had the 4 it was dismally slow compared to later models. Subsequent models brought size increases. There was a bigger reason to upgrade.

Now, it's about incremental usability and novelty features. The 6s is still a great phone.

I'd jump all over an oled ipad. Kind of the reason i didn't bite yet on an updated one and kept 9.7 ipad pro. Wouldn't mind an oled macbook. Got my wife an oled alienware 13 for gaming (she only uses laptops..beats me why) but that screen is awesome.

Ming Kuo has the most accurate prediction rate over any analyst or insider supplier regarding Apple's future products. On a side note, I didn't know he forecasted OLED iPads for 2018.

People love Apple because they “think different.” Same people later complain because Apple doesn’t do everything the same way as competition.

If the bazleless, OLED design is what someone wants, they should buy one of those devices.

If they want the iPhone experience, they should buy the iPhone.

Simple, really.

Interesting. That article was actually from August 16, 2016. I have confidence in what Kuo's prediction, but given the new iPads that launched three months ago, I don't know if we will see an OLED iPad in 2018 or not. That much I question.
I’m thinking maybe next October we’ll see the release. That’s when they released the first iPad Pro 12.9.

By the way... I am also tying to decide if update is justified. I am leaning toward sticking with the 6S Plus for now.

No interest in Android and Apple still serves the needs I have very well with the current iPhone. I don’t like the design of the X and would definitely lean toward the 8 Plus.

If your phone is falling apart or not in good shape you should go for the X. If not, you may want to hold off a year and see what comes behind it. You know how these things go, it's only the latest and greatest for so long.

Slight correction, the original 12.9 iPad Pro actually didn't debut until November 2015. October 2018 would put the second Generation 12.9 iPad at 15 months of a separation From the release of WWDC 2017.

The only problem is that my 6s only has 16 gbs of storage which is really getting annoying, I don’t know how much longer I can live with it. The idea of getting 4 times that is one of my biggest reasons for an upgrade.

Oh okay, interesting. I’ll amend my statement, maybe we won’t see new iPads until next November then.

Title says “an X” when it should say “a X”. Just being nit picky though.
I guess since it’s pronounced “Ten” instead of “X” you’d technically be correct, lol. Neither looks right so I made it “an iPhone X” haha.

This, it’s how I’ll justify the stupid price and lack of Touch ID, the iPhone X is only a tiny bit longer then my 6S is in its case, so I know it’s more then a manageable size for me and I get a bigger screen and dual cameras.
I’m not in a hurry to buy one yet though so will wait for any faults to be report d and the reviews to come out, but I’ll buy one.

As for an OLED iPad Pro??? I think you’ll be waiting a while for that.

Unless you have money to burn...stay w/the 6s. Re-evaluate a year from now.

There won't be any sales on the ipX.

The cost is the big one. The phone should deliver, especially for those of us on the 6s form factor or smaller.

But the price of the first of this new design can only be justified on an individual basis.

I'll only be getting one if I can score a discounted staff plan for eg.

By the way... I am also tying to decide if update is justified. I am leaning toward sticking with the 6S Plus for now.

So not "simple really"?

I'm waiting to see it. I wish it had reach ability but if the selfies are really good which I'm guessing they are then I'll probably shell out a grand. And then I'll prob get Applecare plus so basically I'll just have to give them my bank acct number and let them have at lol. I guess if you want to play with the latest and greatest you've got to pay lol

I'm in the same boat! My issue with the X is FaceID! I'd much rather stick with TouchID on my 6s. Why fix what ain't broken? And in the UK it's £1000 ...that's the price of a half decent holiday, a fully decent Windblows Laptop, or a semi-pro Camera system.

But the 6s is getting long in the tooth, and if I chop it in now I can recoup at least £200 of the £600 I paid for it. If I hang on to it for another year, it basically becomes a drawer filler.

Decisions, decisions.
