iPhone 14 Pro is better than iPhone X but form factor is much worse. Big, heavy, thick, and terrible in your pocket.

Love the speakers, screen, camera, battery life, snappiness and speed, smoothness, and Dynamic Island but hate everything else.

Keep or return?

You shouldn't need strangers to tell you the obvious. You already answered your own question.

Just asking what other people think. If others can relate, what they would do, etc

If someone said "I had the same problem but got used to it" or something like that I may lean toward keeping it.

Contrary, if someone said "I had the same problem and didn't get used to it so stuck with my X" that would help too.

Sounds like you probably need to return it. You could adapt but you may not, so it depends.

Other options possibly to consider would be the 14 since it's a bit lighter or the 13 Mini (since it's lighter and smaller but you will give up quite a bit of battery life).

Saying you might keep the pro if someone else said they got used to the phone etc. is rather stupid and illogical, in my opinion. Your OP is filled with red flags saying return it.

I don’t know how long you’ve had it, but I would at least give it a couple weeks (right up until you need to return if need be). It’s not unusual to want to go back to the “comfortable shoe” which you’ve had for a long while now.

But the 14 Pro (I had a 13 Pro and now the 14 PM) is a great phone and has quite a few differences you’ve raved about already. But you’re the only one who can decide. You could go to the lighter non-pro models. Personally I wouldn’t want to give up Pro features.

I’m a musician and throughout my career I’ve always been aware that many times you need to give new gear a chance before making a final decision. Again _because_ it’s not the old one, which is what we’re so used to. Give it a real chance and if you decide to keep it you might find it’s a decision you’ll be thrilled you made.

I was feeling the same way about the form factor. Love all the new updates from my jump from 11 Pro to the 14 Pro Max, but just didn't feel the same

So I bought a brand new 128GB iPhone 11 and I take both with me every time I go to work (had already sold off my 11 Pro). iMessages sync with both phones, and I get the same texts on both if they are sent via iMessage. I sometimes bring the 14 Pro Max around with me, or else the 11 when I miss the smaller and rounder feel of the device

It's a win win situation, and I'm keeping the 11 on 15.7 for now to enjoy the nostalgic look of the former lock screen

So you say you want features but hate the form factor (iPhone 4 era).
Just sit down, hold both iPhone in your hand for a minute or two, and make decision.
No internet stranger opinion required.
Btw, I would favour features over form factor.

I also tried a 14 pro next to my XS and was shocked at how awful the phone felt in my hand. Will be sticking to XS until they inevitably have another design language shift and go back to comfortable phones. Ultimately it's a phone, comfort is the feature of utmost importance. Extra couple hours of battery life or better cameras or better screen are not worth the sacrifice (+ lack of 3d touch).

I personally like the 14 day return window option (if that is available in your area). This gives me ample time to 'test' a product.
All that to say, my opinion, test it, if you don't like it, return it. End of.

I had the same problem. Eventually got used to it and never looked back.

I had an iPhone X and upgraded to a 14 Pro Max. It is much bigger and heavier. However, I have very quickly gotten used to it. I look at my wife’s iPhone 11 (bigger than the iPhone X) and it looks and feels itty bitty tiny now. It also feels super outdated after getting used to my new phone.

Do you really want to go back to the much worse camera and battery life? If you go outside regularly, I know you will miss the great screen brightness.

Keep it. You’ll get used to it quickly enough. I went from X to 14 Pro Max. While I love my old X, the 14Pro is like leaping into the future. All the new features are worth it.

I really hesitated on the iPhone 14 Pro Max-- somehow, my 12 Pro Max just feels better in the hand, slimmer (the camera bump is definitely slimmer). There's just something sleek about it. But the incredible battery life, 48MP photos, and Cinematic Video make it the iPhone feature set I've always wanted. I thought about returning it many times. But kept it due to that feature set-- many of the photos/videos I'm taking with it now of my family will be future proof.

Lol OP is complaining about iphone being too big and we have a crowd of pro max users saying how much they love their phablets. I have a feeling OP has very different view of and use case for their phone. If one has no use for a giant screen then there’s not much of a reason for someone to get used to it and fall in love with it.

I too went from the X to the 14 Pro and there’s no way I’d go back. Battery, screen, cameras, speed…everything is so much better. I think the notch is pointless but I prefer the aesthetic of it now.

Actually I had the same reaction at first…obviously because rounded is objectively more ergonomic in the hand and the X truly is almost the perfect size. I also had the same reaction going from an iPad 10.5 to the newer design.

But although subjective I think the boxy design looks better and more modern even if it’s not as comfortable to hold.

Anyway, put a case on it and it feels better and you get used to it, not really a big deal. The improvements aren’t worth giving up after you’ve tried them. Who knows when they’ll go back to rounded sides.

Technically the X will probably last another few years until software support ends and you truly get tired of it. Or at least wait another year for USB-C. But this year is really compelling. Waiting for USB-C didn’t matter to me because I’d rather carry two cables to charge devices at the same time anyway and I don’t care about fast cable transfer speeds. Also the Airpods Pro 2 use Lightning so I will need it anyway.

The X is already not getting certain features of the latest iOS update, next year it may be worse.

While having iPPM 13, I wouldn't go back to my iPhone X. It doesn't have 3 things what iPhone 11 and up have is night mode, 16:9 widescreen photos AND 5g. (Note: iPhone 11 doesn't have 5g.)

I'd keep iPP 14 if I were you.

Definitely less important but the X also doesn’t have dual-SIM or eSIM support.

Love the iPhone X, some pure Ive magic there .. debated going for a 14 Pro this year, but actually downgraded from a 13 pro max to my old iPhone 12 Pro (first of the new rectangle design, but also before they put telescopes in place of cameras and beefed it up size and weight wise) so far I am happy for now. However I am fully aware ill prob be upgrading to an iPhone 15 Pro no matter. ( I do notice the slower refresh rate but its not bad for now...)

For you Id say rather a similar thing, if not this year , then assume you'll be upgrading next year. Apple has chosen function over form for now, and you can just get use to it this year, or next year. sorta sucks for those of us from the age of "thinner is better" but we have to adapt to it haha

I had an 11 pro and kept it longer than any iPhone previously purely because of the form factor change. I now have a 14 pro though, and I have finally got used to the new form factor. I do still miss my 11 pro, but I only had 64gb storage and so needed an upgrade!
