iPhone 14 Pro is better than iPhone X but form factor is much worse. Big, heavy, thick, and terrible in your pocket.

Love the speakers, screen, camera, battery life, snappiness and speed, smoothness, and Dynamic Island but hate everything else.

Keep or return?

If you can’t get yourself to like it during the entire return period you have your answer.

I went from the X to the 13 Pro last year and I can see where you‘re coming from. The X was more comfortable to hold on to and even though the size difference from 5,8“ to 6,1“ is minimal on paper, it felt noticeably bigger.

I think you definitely get used to it, but I would still prefer the size and haptics of the iPhone X. The upgrades were easily able to make up for that for me, but that‘s mainly because I value the camera a lot.

Issue is it’s not gonna get better next year, the phones will continue to get heavier and bigger camera bumps and some rumours suggest the 15 pro will be gimped compared to the 15 pro max/ultra so this may be the last year you can get a 6.1 inch full flagship with all the bells and whistles. So even if you stick to your X and return the 14 pro you’re not gonna have a brand new solution to this problem you’re just delaying the inevitable. Prices will also probably be even higher next year with this terrible inflation so another point to keep in mind.

You’re better off getting used to the 14 pro or getting a lighter model, the 13 mini/reg 12/13/14 are all smaller and/or lighter and possible options.

Uh Oh.. I'm still on the XS, and that's been my concern for the last few years.. The rough edges, bulky feeling. But it feels like this is the last year for the XS to still be acceptable in terms of speed/features. If you're not impressed yet with the upgrade then maybe return and hold on to your X until it's not an option anymore, especially if your battery is still giving you a full day, mine already has to be put on the charger mid-day so it won't die before the day ends.

Lol OP is complaining about iphone being too big and we have a crowd of pro max users saying how much they love their phablets. I have a feeling OP has very different view of and use case for their phone. If one has no use for a giant screen then there’s not much of a reason for someone to get used to it and fall in love with it.
We 14 PM users are simply sharing our stories of hesitation / indecision as a counter balance to the OPs own dilemma— they may provide useful context for someone who doesn’t want to move on from an older phone.

iPhone X is 5 years old. It’s got a year or two of support left, tops. 5 years is plenty of time out of a phone. I would definitely upgrade unless you think USB-C in the iPhone 15 next year is absolutely a reason to hold out IMO.

And continuing in the vein of opinion, my 13 PM feels way more amazing than my iPhone X did to me

I switched from my iPhone X to a 14PM and have got used to it within 24 hours

Although my mum held the two and her review was ‘that one’s heavy!’ and preferred the X

I had a iPhone 6 Plus in the past so guess I’m used to it more from owning that

Would certainly not go back now anyway, purely for the display improvements and battery life alone! (Out of the box it was 70% and after a day of heavy use being a new toy it still has 35%!), my X I was always worried about when the next charging opportunity would arise

This is a personal choice. I have two suggestions if you live in a country with easy returns.
Buy apple refurb 11 pro & 12 pro. They are both an upgrade from X, without the huge cameras and bulk of the 14 pro. I wont be downgrading to my 12 pro because i really enjoy the 120hz, AOD & DI. Camera and battery I dont care much about.

How long are you going to keep the X because you like the size so much?

You will eventually have to upgrade and get used to the size. So why not now and then you don’t have to say “why did I wait so long”.

I wasn’t crazy about the size when I had the X and upgraded to 12. The size of screen was also perfect and made more sense for watching videos based on aspect ratio.

I just said , let it be an moved on

Thanks to everyone for the replies. I do feel like I'm getting used to it! I'm leaning towards keeping it. Despite my gripes, I do love the upgrades very much. If I can just get used to what I don't like about it, I will be very happy with my new iPhone!!!

You can always get a case with rounded edges like spigen mag armor and phone rebel gen 4 has curved edges as well to help make the phone more comfortable

I remember when I got the 8 plus. Couldn’t stand the thing because it was so big and bulky. I even started the return process. Well, I kept it and then went to a 12 Pro Max and now the 14 Pro Max. I don’t think I can go back.

Get the iPhone 13 mini, try it for 13 days it's a great phone if you like it return.

Just to update, it has been a few days and I love the phone. I will stick with iPhone 14. It doesn't feel bad at all after a few days. I still have to get used to it in my pocket but otherwise all good
Glad you gave it a try, its a huge update from your x. Lots of great improvements across the board. Pretty crazy to have such a powerful little computer in your pocket that doubles as a pretty incredible camera as well.. oh and the phone call thing too I guess lol

Great choice and one you won’t regret. It’s funny how we just have to generally give new things a chance before making a decision. Our first reaction is “hmm, this doesn’t feel like my old one”. No, it doesn’t

Maybe you should have gotten the 14 PM. Got it 2 days ago, coming from an X. It is so much bulkier and really really heavy.
But in this case you see the difference much more clearly. You trade the form factor into a much bigger and better display. And to be honest, the X makes no good pictures when it’s dark.
So you gain so much more than what you lose.

Keep it your body will adjusted to the new form factor

I see OP changed their mind on returning the 14 Pro (got used to it)

That reminds me of when I first tried the XS Max (from my X). I was like “hell nah. zero chance i’ll be able to use this big of a phone in my life”

Then a few months later, i just decided to dive in completely blind and upgrade from the X to a XS Max. Told myself “if i hate it the whole time, i’ll just sell it and get the regular model next”

One month later and i’m in love with the Max phone. now i don’t think i’ll ever move back to a smaller phone. I also remember the times I was afraid to move from the 3.5in iPhone 4 to the 4.7in iPhone 6

moral of the story, try some things before completely calling it off. I tried the Apple Watch 4 for a whole year and never got an Apple watch again. not for me.
