Hey guys, i was thinking of starting playing World of Warcraft again but im not sure if i should. Ive been wanting to for the past 2 weeks and i just downloaded the 10 day trial about an hour ago. Im having fun haha, but the last time i played was over a year ago and i was kind of addicted to it but not like that bad. I just dont want to get addicted to it this time but i feel like i wouldn't because im older and a lot more mature. I feel like i wouldn't play as much and i could stop myself whenever i needed or wanted to. I have plenty of time on weekdays and ive been playing xbox games or just on facebook or on the internet. And i figured it would be fun to start WoW back up again. But im just not 100% sure if i should do it. What do you guys think?:p

It really just depends on you, I recently started playing legitimately, meaning prior i was on private servers. I am really enjoying it. :)

Edit: I'm on the server Llane and I actually am starting a guild soon and looking for members if you wanted :p

It depends on your level of discipline - partly

I think wow is one of the best games you can play.... but, it's also one of the most addicting. Some people can play it and not get addicted or at least manage a semblance of discipline... I, on the other hand, start spending hours and hours upon end.

So, I don't play. Not because it's not fun but because it robs me of time from other things.

If you can manage a few hours a week here and there and keep all your responsibilities going, and you enjoy that type of game - go for it! But if you know yourself as someone who gets addicted to such games, please stay away.

There are other games that have a natural end - unlike wow, which can last literally for years.

Yeah I love mmo's I really feel like I could limit myself and not play for like hours and hours and hours. And if I did get really addicted I could just quit playing again haha. But yeah I am enjoying the trial so I may give it a chance. I'll probably wait for the trial to end though and see if this craving to play again randomly is just a phase or if I really do want to go back.

You need something more meaningful in your life, a hobby, a partner, some social activities. You sound like you have f*** all else to do, and are sitting around at home on the computer way too often.

Then again, the idea of paying a monthly fee for a computer game, and to join a community full of sexually bitter/asperger syndrome/OCD losers... just kinda makes me think "what f*** happen to my life"

my little brother and I recently got back into the game, but casual. :D
I've met people that play slow, and really enjoy it. Guys who typically take 3-4 months to get to 40, and once they hit 80 can just do a couple of battlegrounds or whatever and log off. I've also met guys who just totally become engrossed in the game. You'll have to see what type of person you are by playing and seeing what happens.

But to tell you the truth, by playing, you are accessing a huge amount of shared experiences that you'll be able to communicate to anyone else who plays that game, no matter whether they are on your server or not. The only reason why my roommate and I were able to become friends was because we had just an entire field of things we could talk about that had nothing to do with where we grew up (he am mainland chinese, I am american). we're really good friends now, largely because we were able to use our discussions of warcraft as a base for a larger friendship.

So, yeah, if you can play a little, play. Just have someone with you to pull the plug when you eventually end up being on 24/7.

I do other things than just sit on the computer. I have friends who i hang out with just about every day. Me and my friends just started a band and i have a job on the weekends. Im just not in school for the rest of this year or the summer and then ill be going to a community college next year which id still have time to play since i wouldnt be living there i would be coming home everyday.

And yeah if i do play again i definitely will play casually and make sure everything else comes first i wouldnt let it get out of control. If that did ever happen i would stop myself and just quit for good and know that i shouldnt get back into that again.

It is difficult to give advice pro or con. WoW is an outstanding diversion as I suspect you all ready know since you quit once and are drawn back to it. I think the key is being able to play it on something less than an addicted level, but you really won't know that until you leap.

I quit WoW for the second time last Dec and for that period was able to play it without overdoing it, but I finally hit my limit. I won't go back as much as I loved it. Running daily dungeons just became too much of a routine and how many times can you run them over and over? And I was never into raid dungeons (too much work).

Anyway, I'm looking for the next great MMO. I hope I've spotted it, but it won't be out for all most a year.

I played for a couple of years after getting it release weekend, but quit. I'm glad I did. It took up a ton of time and you'll never be able to win the game. If you like the social aspect of guilds, etc. then I say go for it. But as a true game I'm disappointed. I just don't have enough time to really stay up with people. If I play a game I want to have the chance to achieve something.

Ultimately, only you can answer the question as to whether you should spend your time playing WoW. If you have the subscription money and the free time, and enjoy the game, and it won't start impinging on other aspects of your life, then go ahead an play it. After all, if you are just going to sit on the couch and mindlessly watch tv for all those hours, then there's no real difference (besides the cost).

However, I suspect that you are asking here on these forums because you have doubts as to whether you should pick it up again. The reasons not to play it are numerous, as you probably know. It is very easy to find yourself putting too much time into WoW, to the detriment of real-life interpersonal relationships, your job/studies, real-life hobbies (especially ones that get you out of the house), time in the sunlight, etc.

A few years ago I played WoW and got into it for a few months. Then one day I suddenly became very bored with the game and put it down. Half a year later I picked it up again and played for a few months before getting bored again. I haven't played since. For me, I'd much rather use that time - even if it is just an hour a day or a few hours a week - to be doing something outside or reading.

It's your money and it's your time. Just make sure you spend both wisely.

I play casually (roughly 14 hours a day) and really enjoy it. From what I understand it might not be the best game if you have an addictive personality, but that's not an issue for me.

I recommend finding a hobby or some better way to spend your free time than spending it in front of a computer all the time. I like playing video games or watching a movie when I have a couple hours to kill once in a while but MMORPGs (especially WoW) just takes it to another level. Real-life is more fun and more rewarding.

I played wow for a bit when it was first released and stopped after I realized how much time I was wasting away. Plus, it got quite boring after a while.

Oh, and if you're single, WoW is a great way to stay that way and never meet those of the opposite gender. If you're not single, WoW is a great way to wind up that way :)

In addition, I have recently started, as stated before. I love it, it is really nice. Although the biggest factor which makes it fun is having friends that play it too, on the same server preferably. So if you are going into it alone then it will be boring, but if you have friends who play or would join you I'd do it.

Are you serious.. 14 hours per day isnt casually mate.
I quit wow about 4 months ago for the third time. At that point i was playing around 12-14 hours per day and that took up most of my day. the only thing that got me out of the house was Work or my Gf

I'm now playing Eve online and spending alot less time on it and still finding it pretty fun. Be warned however, it is a complicated game unlike Wow.

But with regards to your question, i find myself in a similar dillemar. I'm having cravings to play wow again.

My biggest problem is that if i begin to play again the guild im currently in will expect me to Raid 4 nights per week ><

So really the answer is each to their own, no one can decide for you. Hell, pay the $14.95 for 1 month and see how it goes. if you like it, continue.
If you feel like your playing to much then let it die again :)
