I plan to keep my iphone X for a couple of more years. My battery is at 87 percent and want to take advantage of the low cost before year ends but I'm worried that once Apple opens the phone, the adhesive and seals will not be as tight for dust and water resistance. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Yes yes yes.. it’s only at a little over a year now... so I’m another year it will drain even further like say 17-25%.

So yes 100%. Also new batteries make the phones feel snappier... I’m not sure on the X and the 8series, but I do know on older then that the phone will speed up

For that reason alone, yes. If you were planning on switching to a new iPhone next year, I would probably say to hold off.

I don’t know how you guys burn through battery capacity so quickly, my 8 plus was at 100% when I replaced it with the Xs max this year. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for recommending to replace it. I made an appointment next week at the Apple store. I just hope they can replace it on the spot and not tell me I have to come back because they don’t have the part.

I have to say, this cheap battery replacement program has promoted a lot of waste. What happens to all these fully functional lithium ion batteries being disposed of with still 90% of their capacity?

I know most people will say “not my problem” and I understand where they’re coming from, but it makes me think. Does Apple at least recycle them somehow, or are they going in a landfill?

Really it’s luck of the draw. Even with identical use under identical conditions, no two batteries will degrade in exactly the same way.

For me the question is, I am on an iPhone X from oct. 2017 with a batteryhealth at 87%.

My phone is covered by apple care plus.
Imho there is no need to do the battery replacement before the year ends, with apple care i am able do an express replacement the entire phone if the battery gets more worse and this is for „free“.

What’s your opinion?

I would wait until just prior to your AC+ expiration date.

That’s something, at least, but recycling still produces waste. Making these batteries in the first place produces waste, so discarding fully functional ones still strikes me as wrong.

I’m a science teacher and I showed my students “The Story of Stuff” today. It really puts things in perspective. It’s on YouTube. I don’t want to preach, but everyone here should watch it.
And yes, I acknowledge that I’m just as guilty as anyone. I replace electronics before I actually need to.

I would...why not. 31 bucks is pretty good deal to give you another good year of battery life.

My launch day X is at 89%. I have an appointment tomorrow to have my battery replaced. Even though I plan to upgrade next year in September, I still want a new battery. My 7+ was used for a year just as much as my X and is at 93% after 2 years. My daughter has been using my 7+ as a backup phone for a year now.

Doesn't the battery have to be less than 80% for them to replace it under AC+? There's a good chance your battery won't degrade another 7% before your AC+ runs out.

My wife's 6S+ was at 82% (2nd battery), so we had it replaced last week for cheap. This is the first phone we have ever given a third battery! I offered to replace the phone with a used 8+, but she decided the old one is still fine for her.
