The advantage is that you bought it from Bestbuy. They will exchange or refund your money for a product, even if you say you just don't like it. The thing to consider is that if it is otherwise perfect, especially the screen, you are taking a chance that the next one might have other more bothersome issues.

One thing to try is take it back, and talk to a manager to see if you can get a hundred bucks, or so, off. After all, you can't see the blemish when you're using it.
 
I've seen this happen on a friends MacBook Pro before and we managed to fix it after some trial and error. Try using a damp microfibre cloth to buff the scuff mark out, and if that doesn't work, try carefully using a dry Original Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to see if it makes a difference.

Failing that, I'd then recommend returning the computer for another one if you're not satisfied with it. You may be able to open the new unit at the store prior to leaving with it to ensure that it has no scuff marks, dead pixels, or other anomalies.

If you don't care about it (and you obviously do seeing how you made this scratch), then it shouldn't bother you.
 
TAKE IT BACK!! If I make a scratch, I don't mind so much, but when I buy it new, I want it to be perfect!! Also, when you sell it, it could be a problem. You want it to be as pristine as possible.

More than likely not. As I said in my previous post, if you're worried that the replacement computer is going to have issues as well, ask to open it and give it a full visual inspection when you exchange it at Best Buy. Chances are, you just happened to get a bad one and that the other units there are fine - it happens, unfortunately.
 
my main concern with returning it and getting a new one is that the replacement might have a stupid issue with it like a dead pixel or something eles lol. cause everything eles with this macbook is flawless.

i kno it looks bad but, like the other pics show, u cant see it in normal light :S

Replace it for the first time, chances that u get another one are 50/50

my macbook has some stupid dents on the hinge and i chose to move on.

I didn't mean to overstate the issue. I mean, my MBP does not have any physical imperfections that I can find (and I did return one with "hooked" edges where it seemingly was not smoothed properly after being machined). But although this one seems physically "perfect," the hard drive is overly noisy (I'm not willing to take the chance of another case or screen since these are "perfect," so I will replace the hard drive on my own).

On the other hand, if you don't like your less-than-14-days-old machine, by all means take it back! Absolutely.

On the other other hand, I did worry when I took my first one back, that I might end up with some OTHER problem, like a bad screen. Of course I could have taken that one back too..... Luckily I ended up with one I was happy with on the second go. I guess at some point you are either happy or you run out of time/energy to return. There's no way to predict it ahead of time. But that's no reason to keep a brand new computer that is bugging you.

They know they can get away with poor quality when customers like you will accept anything.

It's not enough that Apple brags about how great they are. But when they fail to perform their fanboys rush to provide thousands of lame excuses.

I'd say keep it if it's perfect otherwise. When you're using the computer, it's not going to interfere with use at all. You'll never notice it. If you do take it back, I don't think you're that likely to get one with an issue. I bought my 15" MBP at Best Buy and its perfect. Really the first laptop I've ever bought that didn't have some issues out of the box.

I really don't understand why some people still defend Apple even though it's quality control is abysmal. It's kind of absurd that people hesitate returning their flawed laptops, because they're afraid that the replacement will be even worse.

well its a 2000 dollar computer, cant help to think the new replacement might ahve an issue no?
 
I wouldn't bother returning it. Hell, I bought an MBP on eBay with two dents in the top and I'm just getting a case to cover it.

I realize that it's different buying used versus new, but honestly it's just a little scratch. It happens. It's not going to affect your use of the thing, it won't get in your way, it's just a niggling bother.

Caveat: I've never owned an Apple product before now, I have an Android phone and an Xbox 360 at home. I'm NOT an Apple fanboy, and I'm not an apologist. I just think people flip out too much about minor cosmetic blemishes.

Yes, exactly. Unfortunately that's the reality of Apple quality. I just pointed out that the situation is pretty horrendous if it's unlikely to get a good laptop out of the box and the customer has to worry if the replacement will be even worse. Therefore it's beyond my comprehension why some people still defend Apple on this matter.

well, i have looked at other laptops and the quality of them didnt seem much better. you have to admit though, the unobody designs of the macbook are pretty solid.

this youtuber i was watching said his company bought 45 macbooks. 5 of them had issues.

do you think i should take it back man? hopefully the replacement will be all good?

i kno i kno, only way to find out is to do it lol

No it isn't. You don't know what you are talking about. Their quality control is much more stringent than any other computer maker even in the same factories with the same parts. I've been to several factories in China that make Apple parts and computers as well as other manufacturers like Dell, HP, and Motorola (the company I worked for at the time). Apples lines are segregated, they have higher test thresholds, and they toss many more parts than the other manufactures do. People defend them because they make a great product and they provide great service and support. Everyone knows they will give you a brand new one no questions asked. Try that with Dell, HP, etc. However Apples makes millions of computers and devices and some issues slip out. Nothing is perfect when it comes to quality control which is something anyone who understands manufacturing methodologies understands. Its dependent on your standards, resources applied to QC, and how you react when issues are discovered. Apple beats the crap out of everyone else when it comes to these thing's but it also costs more. But you don't need to take my word for it and I don't much care if you do. Google it.

My MBP is 1.5 years old now, and it has quite a lot of little nicks and scratches (mostly other people's faults) but you don't notice then unless you hold the computer up to your face and stare at it... it still looks great from far back!

i had my 13 2010 macbook pro , and it was clean and perfect for the 6 months i had it lol of course, soldit to get this 15 one lol
 
I think for $2k+ you should get a machine that you are happy with, both "mechanically" and cosmetically.

For those who don't care about scratches because they will add more anyway .... no problem, those people don't want or need to return them for cosmetic problems, and that's fine. But for people who do care, and who are careful not to add scratches, then they have the right to return them when they are new, according to Apple's 14-day return policy.

Again, that's not to say that those who don't care should have to do anything with *their* machines. To each their own within Apple's policies, I think.
