I've been buying every iPhone on day 1 since the first model. The X was the first time I didn't want a new iPhone and didn't order it on day 1. I finally decided to give the X a try. I've had it only one day and so far I don't like it and want to return it already. First iPhone ever that I've felt this way about. Coming from an 7+ it feels like a step back in many ways, without adding much. Should I return it, or will I appreciate it over time?

My complaints are all about the screen. Yes the screen is longer than the plus model, but I don't want a longer screen, it just makes it harder to use with one hand. Coming from a plus model, it's harder to type with. Putting control center at the top corner makes it nearly impossible to use with one hand, which is when I need control center the most. I'm not getting used to the notch, it's fugly. If they had made the screen slightly wider and had a hardware home button on the side, it would be the same screen size as the plus model with a smaller form factor, which would have accommodated users who wanted a larger screen and those who wanted a smaller phone. And developers wouldn't have had to update their apps.

What could have made it a perfect phone IMHO:
- Made the notch a dedicated status area and black out the sides.
- Matched the size of the plus screen (excluding the notch).
- Reduced the rounding on the edges to get rid of the dead zones and allow apps to use the whole screen.
- Made a physical home button on the side and kept control center at the bottom.

I upgraded from a 6+ and this phone is incredible. Personally, I found zero value in upgrading to the 6s,7 or 8. The 10 is a huge step forward just in the screen alone.

Had it for 3 days and the notch doesn't even bother me. I actually like seeing the time up LTE, wifi stuff up there.
I think the specs area little bigger than the plus screen. I could be wrong. Again, even if it were a tad smaller, the screen quality makes up for it.
I think as apps upgrade to iPhone X standards this will improve? I could be wrong
I dont miss the home button at all, in 3 days I am so used to swiping up. Control center being at the top is a bit annoying but I didn't use it that much anyway.

Those are just my own thoughts and I won't be returning mine. Do whatever makes you happy!

If you’re not willing to take the time to adjust you will probably be better off with an 8 Plus.

You most likely won’t be buying another iPhone for a while given that the notch and rounded corners will be on the next few iPhones, there will be no replacement home button, and control center is definitely not being relocated back to the bottom.

It’s either adjust now or adjust later but if you plan on staying with the iPhone, you will be adjusting eventually.

Well yeah, I'm just wondering if others felt this way then grew to love it, or if people just loved or hated it and never changed their minds. I have no problem adjusting to the new flow of the phone, but so far I don't see any benefits other than the smaller size. Having the bigger keyboard on the plus makes typing sooo much better. I'm comparing the screens side by side and the X is a bit warmer, but not really much nicer IMHO. And depending on the viewing angle, the X looks a bit greenish. The plus looks the same at any angle. What am I missing that people love so much about this phone? Maybe I need to wait for the X+, though they wouldn't need a + model if they just made this one a tad wider.

if you don't like it return it, if you like it keep it. It's as simple as that.

I know you mentioned quite a few observations and what you would Have changed to make this the perfect iPhone in your opinion, but no iPhone will ever meet the expectations fully for everyone. That's just how it is given for what the iPhone X is worth. Which I think Apple has a solid first step with the iPhone X and it's future.

No, I did not return my X. Have had since launch day and I think my X is awesome sauce. Do not care about notch at all and even appreciate its functionality (defining swipe areas, etc), love the size (would not personally want a larger form factor), do not miss home button at all, super happy with Face ID and gestures. The things you mention would make it perfect for you would definitely not make it perfect for me.

If you don’t like it, then return it. I’d encourage you to give it the 14 days though and not decide based on one day since it is so different from what you are used to. Maybe you might be happier with an X Plus as rumoured for next year.

But keep in mind many of the things you have issue with may be around for a while...even on an X Plus.

does that mean you can open an iPhone X, use it, play with it and return it for an exchange and full refund if i'm not satisfied?

Depending where you bought it (i.e. country) - yes. As long as you bring it back with no more than normal wear. It is part of Apple wanting people to be satisfied with their devices. And if not, to move on.

You do what you want to do. But I don’t see why people like those hugh bezels on the 6,7, and 8 I’m waiting on my x to come in the mail.

I had the 7+ and went to the 10, the 10 is great, yes it is smaller but has a bigger screen (taller). The speed at least for me is not perceived in any way. I love the face ID thing, the only thing I would change is to make unlock and open automatically instead of having to swipe “up” to open the home screen

I had no problems typing with my fat, arthritic fingers--:) No errors.

Videos are more than acceptable on the narrower screen, and beautiful.

I have Tru Tone off and Text to large.

Coming from a Plus, I don't see it as a step back. The screen, fluidity, 3g ram, processor etc make it an upgrade to me.

All IMHO--:)

You need AssistiveTouch. Turn it on and the top gestures won’t be that big of a deal. You have options now with it so set it up.

I’m gonna bite the bullet and order me a X. Just waiting if there are any Black Friday deals before I do so.

I returned it today. I really hated that phone with a passion. First time I've ever returned an Apple product (and I've purchased a ton) and first year I wont be updating my phone or any other Apple product.

Whatever makes you happy.

I have unpopular opinions too like I hated Seinfeld and Friends when they were on. Never found either show funny and think Jerry Seinfeld is garbage. He's less funnier than Dane Cook which is saying alot.

T-Mobile has some BOGO deals on the 7 and 8 series.

I just think the X is a lie, and a bad direction Apple is going. It claims to have the largest screen, but the actual usable area on the screen is practically the same as the regular non-plus model, except a lot more expensive. The longer screen is a lot harder to use with 1 hand. Technically it doesn't have a top and bottom bezel, but it really does when you consider how apps have to essentially treat the areas where the corners are rounded as dead space and shift their content away from the edges. And in horizontal mode, you get even less usable area than the regular model because the width is the same but the rounded corners cause many apps to not be able to use the entire width anymore. They didn't make a model for Plus users, and the X is a big step down if you're coming from a Plus. I also was not impressed with the OLED screen. I don't think it looks better than the screen on the Plus, and the colors change pretty drastically depending on the viewing angle. True tone doesn't look good at all IMHO. Face ID is pretty amazing for sure, but that was really the only new feature that impressed me. All the new portrait camera modes barely work at all, they always create blurry edges and don't add much that you can't get from some basic editing.

It's not just a matter of: I didn't like it so I'm returning it. I'm sad that this is the direction Apple has chosen to go in for the future of the iPhone, and am mad that I didn't have any new compelling Apple products to upgrade to this year.

So you expect them to keep the same **** every year? It’s bad enough we have the 6,6s,7,8 that all are pretty much the same. I’m glad Apple finally brought something new to the table. I haven’t got mine yet but it definitely has to be better then those hugh bezel iPhones before.

I was excited for a new phone without bezels and have been looking forward to upgrading, but the way they implemented this was terrible. Getting rid of bezels should be to get a smaller form factor, or a larger screen on the same body. This doesn't do either because of that damn notch and the rounded screen create so much dead space, it's essentially the same size screen as before with a higher price tag.
