If you don't like it, that's fine, return it (and don't ask us). But get your facts straight. This display is far bigger than the standard size iPhones and larger in one dimension (and only slightly smaller in the other dimension) than the Plus iPhones.

I've been buying every iPhone on day 1 since the first model. The X was the first time I didn't want a new iPhone and didn't order it on day 1. I finally decided to give the X a try. I've had it only one day and so far I don't like it and want to return it already. First iPhone ever that I've felt this way about. Coming from an 7+ it feels like a step back in many ways, without adding much. Should I return it, or will I appreciate it over time?

My complaints are all about the screen. Yes the screen is longer than the plus model, but I don't want a longer screen, it just makes it harder to use with one hand. Coming from a plus model, it's harder to type with. Putting control center at the top corner makes it nearly impossible to use with one hand, which is when I need control center the most. I'm not getting used to the notch, it's fugly. If they had made the screen slightly wider and had a hardware home button on the side, it would be the same screen size as the plus model with a smaller form factor, which would have accommodated users who wanted a larger screen and those who wanted a smaller phone. And developers wouldn't have had to update their apps.

What could have made it a perfect phone IMHO:
- Made the notch a dedicated status area and black out the sides.
- Matched the size of the plus screen (excluding the notch).
- Reduced the rounding on the edges to get rid of the dead zones and allow apps to use the whole screen.
- Made a physical home button on the side and kept control center at the bottom.

$1000 is a lot of money to lose. If you are asking the question, it sounds like regret and you should get your money back.

I just think the X is a lie, and a bad direction Apple is going. It claims to have the largest screen, but the actual usable area on the screen is practically the same as the regular non-plus model, except a lot more expensive. The longer screen is a lot harder to use with 1 hand. Technically it doesn't have a top and bottom bezel, but it really does when you consider how apps have to essentially treat the areas where the corners are rounded as dead space and shift their content away from the edges. And in horizontal mode, you get even less usable area than the regular model because the width is the same but the rounded corners cause many apps to not be able to use the entire width anymore. They didn't make a model for Plus users, and the X is a big step down if you're coming from a Plus. I also was not impressed with the OLED screen. I don't think it looks better than the screen on the Plus, and the colors change pretty drastically depending on the viewing angle. True tone doesn't look good at all IMHO. Face ID is pretty amazing for sure, but that was really the only new feature that impressed me. All the new portrait camera modes barely work at all, they always create blurry edges and don't add much that you can't get from some basic editing.

It's not just a matter of: I didn't like it so I'm returning it. I'm sad that this is the direction Apple has chosen to go in for the future of the iPhone, and am mad that I didn't have any new compelling Apple products to upgrade to this year.

You returned it. The thread should be over. Stop trying to troll and convince other people that their phones suck.

returned mine on the 14th day for an 8plus. First time i did not want the latest phone from apple..im a plus user for several years now and it def felt like a downgrade like i went backwards.
when i went from the 6 to 6+ it took me 2 days to love the plus size phone.
the X after 13 days i still could not get used to it. its too damn small...like i went back to a 6.

they come out with a plus version next year ill be all over it...till then i am very happy to be on a 8plus

Yeah, you're right. Not trying to pee on anyone's parade. I was just surprised at how displeased I was with it, considering how big a fanboy I was, and wanted to get other people's views to figure out why I might be wrong. But I guess it all comes down to a matter of preference, and this model just isn't for me. Hopefully a larger X will wow me again.

Feel the same way.

Whatever makes you happy.

I have unpopular opinions too like I hated Seinfeld and Friends when they were on. Never found either show funny and think Jerry Seinfeld is garbage. He's less funnier than Dane Cook which is saying alot.

T-Mobile has some BOGO deals on the 7 and 8 series.

what! Seinfeld was awesome... Seinfeld himself was a horrible actor and not the best stand up comic I agree, but that show was pure comedic genius.

As for the iPhone I laughed when the OP said he hated it with a passion lol, how bad could a device be to incite that kind of feeling.

As for my experience, I didn't like the idea of the notch and was one of its biggest critics, however after using the phone for a while its a non-issue as I barely even notice it, it kind of just blends in.... I also thought the width of the screen was disappointing, coming from a 7 plus... But I'm kind of starting to get used to that as well. the gestures are all about muscle memory so those I've already gotten used to.....and i have no problem reaching the control center, compare to the plus size phones I've been using for the past few years, reaching stuff is not an issue at all.

It's like a band you've loved all your life finally puts out an album you don't like. It's kinda sad.

Control Center slided from the bottom of those Plus models. The X's display is taller which makes reaching with your thumb harder.

Apple really needs to change the position on where Control Center slides from. Reachability won't help. Also, it needs to give us more options on which toggles to see.

I feel the pre-iPhone OS 3 days when we couldn't copy & paste or turn off autocorrection yet. I remember that was the first thing I did when updating. Turn off that awful autocorrection.

More toggle customization. Apple restricts us the most from truly using our phones the way we want.

The X is noticeably narrower than the Plus, it's not a small difference, it makes content on the screen appear significantly smaller. Maybe I will get used to it, but it's disappointing that after 3 years Apple still hasn't made an iPhone with a bigger screen than the original 6+ in 2014. The 2018 X-Plus will probably be awesome, but that's another year out. The extra screen length is far less useful than the width you lose. As others have mentioned, there is dead space around the corners, and even native Apple apps don't use the full screen effectively.

Totally agree. I'm not looking for a bigger screen though. I was hoping when they took away the bezels, that they would make the phone smaller instead of making the screen bigger. I'd be trilled if they made a phone with the 6+ screen size, without the top and bottom bezel.

I’ve always wanted the biggest screen possible, I’ve had all 3 plus models since they’ve been released. I bought the X knowing it was more narrow and can’t believe anyone would complain about this phone. I opened the X, set it up and gave my wife my 7 plus. A couple days later I picked up her phone and couldn’t believe how stale it looked with the bezels and the backlit blacks the display produces. And I have not once noticed or cared about the tiny amount of content you might lose with the more narrow display.

And I still don’t get everyone’s obsession with using their phone with one hand. I get everyone is different but I never even used the original iPhone one handed.

I didn't read through the whole thread so excuse me if this was already mentioned. I don't understand why you have to ask all these strangers what you should do. If you don't like the phone, return it.

I think that's the problem right there. Expectations were (unrealistically) in the stratosphere. I, OTOH, said I'd never buy one. No way. Not happening. Way overpriced.

And here I am now with mine (haha) and I think it's a beautiful device. Definitely a keeper!

I was excited for a new phone without bezels and have been looking forward to upgrading, but the way they implemented this was terrible. Getting rid of bezels should be to get a smaller form factor, or a larger screen on the same body. This doesn't do either because of that damn notch and the rounded screen create so much dead space, it's essentially the same size screen as before with a higher price tag.

It just goes to show you the iPhone X is not going to meet everybody's expectations when One way or the other. But what I like about Apple, is they have plenty of options in their iPhone lineup for different price points and iPhone sizes.

Dude, you haven't given yourself a chance to miss the small incremental changes that come out every year because every year you get the latest iphone. Heck I'm still rocking my 6 Plus (from 2014) and even I think I'm not missing out on much by not getting the X. I've bypassed 3 years of iphones and I genuinely do not feel I have missed out on anything, either by individual iphone or all 3 collectively. If anything, I feel like I've gained a headphone jack.

I agree the X is no biggy this year when really it should have been. Ultimately it's up to you, just because others forced themselves to like it or slowly warmed to it over time, doesn't mean you will. Everyone is different and have different needs for the phone.

Think to yourself, will going back to your 7 feel like a relief? If so, then do just that.

And maybe give it a couple of years before you upgrade again. Chances are, if this year's X didn't excite you, then next year's won't either.

It's just the way it goes in the walled garden.

Yes, control center is a joke but I cannot imagine going back to an 8 or 8+, my biggest worry was face id but I love how passive it is. If I ditched the X it would be for a Pixel 2 or to go back to my S8+ that I still have.

if I returned my X it would purely because of the cost, I have 4 days left to return and think £1150 is ridiculous for a phone, and a part of me would like to send a statement to apple and return it.

I actually have the iPhone 8 and recently the iPhone X. I find myself picking up my iPhone 8 more often than my X believe it or not.

Idk why but tbh I find the iPhone 8 easier to use. Maybe I’m just use to it since this model is similar in size to the previous few models.

To me the iPhone X is the best phone Apple has made. The feeling is the same when I first tried the first iPhone. I felt that was the best phone at that time then came the Google phone but iPhone was still more elegant and classy.

This time round I am getting the same feeling. Compared to the other phones in the market today, iPhone X is the best.

Yes, it has some negatives like no home button but we can manage with simple gestures. FaceID is not as bad as people make it out.

The notch is being over discussed. It is just a design which Apple thought will work for FaceID as they didn't want to put the home button. Apple has a plan for the future, may be the notch will be smaller or may be gone in the next iPhone release. Give it a chance now and enjoy the phone.

Well yeah, I'm just wondering if others felt this way then grew to love it, or if people just loved or hated it and never changed their minds. I have no problem adjusting to the new flow of the phone, but so far I don't see any benefits other than the smaller size. Having the bigger keyboard on the plus makes typing sooo much better. I'm comparing the screens side by side and the X is a bit warmer, but not really much nicer IMHO. And depending on the viewing angle, the X looks a bit greenish. The plus looks the same at any angle. What am I missing that people love so much about this phone? Maybe I need to wait for the X+, though they wouldn't need a + model if they just made this one a tad wider.
I returned my X. I couldn't get used to the narrower screen. I really dislike face id. I use Apple Pay a lot and having to use my face to unlock my phone was just really annoying. I love the huge size of the plus with the home button. When I go the 8 plus i was so happy I swapped. The apple genius told me they are seeeing quite a few people swapping to the 8 plus from the X and it was never meant to be a plus sized iPhone. I did try to love it for 2 whole weeks of heavy use and couldn't. The notch sometimes annoyed me when watching full screen videos but if you don't like it now you never will. I got the x after reading hundreds of glowing reviews for it thinking it would be mind blowing as some described it. It wasn't for me.

Whilst I prefer the screen size and shape of the + its just too big for me. The X pretty much has the small form factor of the standard iPhone but with a larger bezel-less display so its a great compromise.

If you were previously a + owner and the large size didn't bother you then go back, OR if you can wait for a bigger X next year get that. Many many people however don't want a phone that's any larger than the current X.

iPhone X is harder to use with one hand than iPhone Plus?

Seems like you went into it with doubt.
Have you tried reachability? It is wonderful for getting to control center and notifications.

Apples execution of the phone was average to poor at best. they should have created hot corners like on MacOS and then got rid of the redundant slide to switch apps. Kept 3d touch app switcher and corner swipes could have activated Control Center or other things.
