I picked up a demo Quad G5 a couple of weeks ago for $1350 and sold it within 5 days for $2300. yay for me! I will be getting an updated mac asap

I sold my G5 Quad about 9 months ago and bought a 20" iMac
CoreDuo to hold me over. I ordered my 2.66 MacPro on saturday
and it arrives today. So, I answered your poll with Sell now.

And to be honest, the Intel iMac handled everything the same
as the G5 Quad, including Pro Tools with up to 4 plug-ins per
channel.

You're on crack

Lets not forget that radiator cooling your quad G5s only has a few more years before it starts leakin. Yeah. Next year or two this forum will be flooded with "My G5 is leaking" threads. Believe it.

Bah - that is nothing but pure unadultarated FUD. I've heard of one case of leaking coolant. I think that was user initiated.

Keep the G5. CS3 will work great on the G5, just load it with RAM

Its a scientific fact. Radiators don't last forever. FUD that! BAM!!

Its a scientific fact.

It's FUD. As I said, the paranoid OMG THEIR IS LIKWID KEWLING IN UR PUTER people (who apparently don't understand the concept) have been saying that they'll start leaking en masse "real soon" for about 3 years now, and they are still wrong.

Radiators don't last forever.

Probably the logic board will die before the cooling unit does. Heck, the radiator in my old car never leaked a drop over ten years, and that was under more stress and in far worse conditions than the ones in computers....

That makes no sense. Software being universal doesn't make it go slower on PPC.

--Eric

Maybe not, but surely universal software will be faster on the Intel Mac's.

If it isn't why are Apple expecting to sell $1 billion of Intel Mac Pro's to the graphics industry once Photoshop CS3 is widely available?

Why are there so many PPC VS Intel debate posts. I will say this now. I will keep the PowerMac G5 forever. When the time comes to buy a new mac, I will still keep the G5 along with a new mac.:)

Why are there so many PPC VS Intel debate posts.

Because some people have a weird idea of reality. Forever is a long time, but enjoy your Power Mac until the universe suffers from heat death, anyway. At which time it might be hard to find a power source....

Edit: ha! I replied before you edited your post. ;)

Sell it while you can. A Mac Pro has longevity. A g5 wont be worth squat in 2 years.. because current gen Intel Macs will be real cheap themselves.

I think the new 2.66

Was fairly nice, but I sold mine when I found out how much ram costs. I kept my G5 and am totally happy with it. Until the new OS Comes out anyway, all of the cores never went above 50% anyway, so maybe when the new OS hits. But the quaddy-G5 will be one of those awesome computers that everyone remembers for a long time (like Cube G4, and 1st powerbook). The MacPro is more of an experiment like the first gen MacbookPro.

Nothing has longevity in this technology. Well thats not true, the name will but thats as far as it'll go. People are so obsessed and think such and such is future proof. As they say, its no sooner out the box its out of date!

It's how you make use of your equipment that gives it longevity and if your business makes off of it.
