At this point, I'd probably wait to see what happens after the first firmware update. If you want it for photography, I'd keep an eye on the green photo thing. I haven't seen it on mine, so might not be widespread.

That's basically robbery in my opinion. Bad way to do business, I know AT&T is not better but at least I do not have to change my plan.

Don't buy the IP4. If AT&T had tried that with me, I would have canceled my service and bought a IP4 at full price.

I know it is, seriously it pee'd me off quite a bit when I first heard, even sent a email in complaining.
But it's not the fact it's not unlimited, it the fact the cap is so low. For £90 a month you only get 1 gig data (ovbiously with text and call time) but to go from unlimited to 1 gig? :(

First off: I know this is my decision, just looking at peoples opinions.
Second off: PLEASE no one that's just going to say 'I hav had no problems with the phone, it's perfect!' As this is a real issue, I'm glad that wherever you live you are getting good signal, I just hope you never go traveling.

Basically I'm not happy with apples whitewash or sugar coating of the problem, fact it the problem is hardware, they designed the phone badly and are now scrambling to try and mask that.
Speed tests don't lie.

I mostly use my phone for texting/Internet, I barely even use my phone for phonecalls, in the last year I have probably made about 5 hours of calls, that is if I don't include my last girlfriend (now ex) who liked to phone me the minute I left her and then fall asleep on the phone at night -_-
So how much is this problem effecting messages? If at all?

I can probably live with using headphones for calls to completely eradicate the problem with signal and the proximity sensor (which I hope they address in the patch/update)

What I really want the new iPhone 4 for is the new camera, because let's face it the 3gs camera sucks and as a photography student it's nice to not always have to bring a dslr everywhere. (I know a camera phone will never be as good as a dslr, I'm not stupid)

I was really holding Apple would adress the problem and not just try and hide it, dissapointng really.

If you have to stay with AT&T, get iPhone4, sell it on ebay and check out several unlocked Android phones. Or wait for Samsung 4" Android that are coming to AT&T later in the month. You can't go back to 3.5" screen for browsing plus the Adroid menu system is such that it leaves more screen real estate for content than buttons as it uses a 'button' for pop-up menu at the bottom.

If that happens I will have to just bring it back for an exchange, one thing that made me like apple was the amazing customer support, but as you say it doesn't seem like a widespread problem.
Plus with apple I have come to expect screens turning yellow/slowly dying etc :p
