Oh :p.

The one I want is fairly beefy. 2.66GHz 15" uMBP, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD (or 320... Either one is a lot of space for me), 9600M GT. I just wanna see if Apple comes out with anything more beefy.

If you need it, now is the time to buy. If you're willing to wait until early 2010 (possibly the next "big" update), than you might as well wait. But again, if you want it now, you aren't going to regret it. You'll get a great product and it'll last you a long time. Plus, if you always have the mentality that something better will come out... you'll never buy anything. Of course there's always going to be better and faster computers... but that's technology. It moves so quickly!

May get it tomorrow if I play my cards right.

Question: What does the 15" 2.66GHz MBP with 4GB RAM/9600M GT get in Windows 7 as its WEI score? Kinda curious...

Not that I think anything will happen with the computers this week, why not just wait a few days?

Dont you guys think apple will release an upgrade before the year ends? majority of manufacturers do this to take advantage of the christmas season.

I think apple will release an upgraded MBP perhaps end of november or early december... even just a minor upgrade.

That's just my 2 cents.

And what would they upgrade with?

About a 80% chance of getting it today from Best Buy. Getting excited now :D:D:D:D.

First thing I'll probably do is install Windows 7 on it. I wanna see how games will play on the 9600M GT.

One can wait or one can buy now. There is no way you are going to beat the system. Apple will always come out with something.
Its like a car do i now or do i wait?
Lets face it we are long time dead. If you can afford it...........
You can keep asking people on the forum and in the end of the day its your shout.

Hey, let us know if you get it. I for one am ready and itching to get one, but I want the 2.93ghz with the ATI card so I have to get it online. Been real tempted to just go with the stock 2.93, but just can't pull the trigger.

I actually don't know but if I'm employed with apple's planning/strategy/marketing group, i would definitely think that it would be very wise to introduce something new during the christmas season. A lot of people would be enticed to give them out as gifts and people are liquid during that time (with their 13th month christmas bonus and all)

nice choice...i wish I could get a new MBP now that they offer matte screens on the 15"

You missed the point of my question. There has to be available hardware to upgrade with. They can't magically increase the speed if there are no faster parts available.

I'm loving this damn thing.

Upgraded it to the free copy of Snow Leopard. Took about 55 minutes and it was on battery power. I took the laptop out of the box and it had about 80% left, and that was maybe 2 or so hours ago. It has 22% left now. Amazing.

Is 64-bit worth it? I booted while holding the 6 and 4 keys and everything seems a tad bit faster. I edited the com.apple.Boot.plist file with arch=x86_64 to boot in 64-bit mode all the time. Is it really worth it?

UPDATE: Stopped booting in 64-bit mode. Boot times were actually slower than in 32-bit mode. The system boots into 64-bit mode anyway but it just doesn't use the 64-bit kernel or 64-bit extensions.

Nice to know about 64 bit boot time. I also just got a macbook pro with the free snow leopord disc, and from my time with 10.5 ( a few days) with 10.6 (a few more days) I am very happy with the new OS. Best in stability so far since 10.3 in my opinion.
