Umm Look... There is a deal for the iMacs up until Jan 10th, the day before Steve's keynote... That is a near 100% surefire guarantee they will be upgrading the graphics card IN JANUARY, mark my words.

Ohh and the Fan/noise issue was fixed in the later Rev A iMacs.
To be honest that means jack s***. There are about 5 promo's that end that day and non are linked directly to the iMac. I highly doubt we will see an iMac upgrade until the PowerMacs get bumped up.

I think you speak the truth there. Personally, I would prefer the iMac line to be advanced cos it's the market I'm in and would jump at an upgrade. But such an upgrade would make less sense than improving the flagship line right now.

I'm casting my voting stone in the April pot for the iMac revision.

But as the rumors say, the eMac's will have 1,6 CPU, they would maybe be too close to the iMac's, so they have to upgrade them at the same time?

Apple going to a 9 month product cycle isnt very good when you consider Pc's are changing almost every few months. Apple has a lot of work to do on powermac,Emac, powerbook, before imac gets anything. Listen to ijohn he knows. I agree with him that it will be months before another imac upgrade happens and when it does i would expect/demand a better GPU.I dont see it happening at MWSF.

Why do I see the iMac G5 rev B as a better investment than the rev A models that we have now:

1. new chips 90nm instead of the now 130nm (less heat and power consumption).

2. Better GPU hoping the entry level PMG5 have one as well first.

Yeah, my problem is I really, really want a new Mac now, since the only new computer in our house is a Dell, but I don't absolutely NEED one.

I have a feeling the mid-range updated iMac will have a 90nm chip, 8X Superdrive, 512 MB base RAM, and possibly an updated graphics card. That's exactly what I want! So I think if I buy now, I will regret it later.

And for those of you who say "there will always be updates," the iMac G5 was launched with a slower Superdrive, less base RAM, and cheaper graphics card than everyone expected. I expect most of those complaints, if not all, to be fixed with revision B, including the fan problem.

The question is, when's the EARLIEST and LATEST an iMac revision would come out? I'm guessing earliest March, latest May.

If the superdrive in the iMac is upgraded to 8x at MWSF, that would be great. The 4x Superdrive is the thing I like least about my iMac G5. If they do upgradge, will I be able to buy one and replace my current drive?

As to the OP. I say buy it. I agree with others who say buy when you need it. And if you don't even have a computer to use whenever you need to use one, I'd say that qualifies and needing one ASAP! I love my iMac G5.

I also that a iMac revision would be due around the time of WWDC. It would also be hitting at the time of the Tiger release.

I just got a new iMac 20" and was wondering, what is this fan/noise problem that's been spoken of?

You might be one of the lucky ones then. 🙂

When the PMG5 was first released many people had comments in regards to the noise factor it was using the 130nm G5 chip which runs hotter.

When the PMG5 was updated they now use the 90nm G5 chip which is cooler and less power consuming and the noise is far less.

Expect nothing more than the same out of the iMac G5. The iMac G5 currently has 3 FAN's which are almost always ON if you are working on many application, this is because of heat generated with the Optical Drive, HDD, and the G5 chip and I know some people also had PSU noise issues.

I was unfortunate I had a defective PSU(noise related) and a fan issue. As long as the system was ON I would hear this horrid noise, if I ran a few applications or if some application hanged the fans revved up. This is unacceptable to me. I spoke to Apple Tech (via phone) and an Apple Tech friend that I know and my friend told me to return it not worth the problems until they use the 90nm G5 chip.

Was I disappointed YES, do I regret it now NO. Do I like my new Apple notebook YES.

I am not sure if they fixed the problem however I find it quite hard to believe since there is already a backorder for iMac G5 and I have gotten this as a confirmation via Apple Sales so I do not believe that the issue has been fixed. I bought mine in Mid November so they have had quite sometime to resolve the issue(s).

If you have not received any of the above issues be grateful. 🙂

Knowing how Steve Jobs loves to shine in the spotlight, "Tiger" and iMac G5 rev B will be released waaaay before WWDC 2005.

Since even though H1 2005 is a deadline, this upgrade is set to match on Longhorn and releasing it before the end of H1 2005 will only confirm that Apple ahead of the game to the media and shareholders. 🙂

late March - mid April is my bet for an iMac G5 update expect it to have the 8x and if iLife supports dual layer that will also be implemented in the iMac G5.

I would say wait if the current technology is not appealing to you. 🙂

Save you money you might be able to Mac (pun intended) out your Mac. 😉 🙂

Well I'm definitely stuck between a rock and a hard place. Isn't WWDC in June? What should I do? I really want an iMac but I don't want one with fan/heat issues! 😕

The wait will not be that long, with the success of the iMac G5, Apple is not going to wait till WWDC 2005 to revise. Look at my previous post for a better indication. 🙂

Isn't the opposite true? Since the iMac is so successful, wouldn’t Apple wait longer before updating them? That's what I'm worried about!

The eternal problem.

That would be a safe bet.

I was at comp usa today and was using the imac 20inch, and wow! The screen is really good. I would probably get the 17inch though it seems more practical to me and my small room. Also that thing was really speedy the g5 rocks, and this one only had 256 memory. I really like the imac but if i bought one id have 3 computers! A gaming desktop pc i built, ibook, and then the new imac. Jeez what do you do when you want like 5 different computers? haha 😀
