No, they shouldn't pick a range of colours and mass produce them. Instead they should have a standard MBP colour (as they do now), and offer some kind of customisation (most likely third-party). I admit, prior to about 2008, I wasn't an Apple consumer. But from what I recall, wasn't there once an option of customising MBPs? Can anyone offer any websites that would do so?
 
There was the PowerBook 1400 that had a clear plastic panel on the back of the lid you could customize. Today, colorware will give your MacBook pro an auto type paint job for about 500 I think.
