i think the engineering in the design of the case and the camera make this a non-issue.

No. Let's keep it professional with black and white.

Oh, let me guess. You're offended? Or so, why? How many guys do you think will want a purple, blue and red phone? Solid colors are fine. Black and white and maybe one more color is good enough. No reason to include multi colors or more solid colors. Waste of money and time. You'll end up having a whole bunch of phones left because a mass of people don't like that color. Now what will you do? Give them out to charity?

Except that 50% of iPhone users are infact women so that would make quite a lot of business sense to offer other colours. EQUAL SENSE just like I'm sure there's an equal amount of men wanting to have a different colour iPhone. Yourself included since you said you'd like a blue iPhone? I'm also equally sure that you sound like a sexist pig. Not a nice personality trait to have.

Personally I don't care, I like my black iPhone and I'm a woman, shock horror!

I was obviously stating that introducing a plethora of colors will result in a surplus...in my opinion, there will be a lot of left over phones because some people will start over thinking things. I think 3 colors will be fine. Black, white and whatever color research says is more in demand. I for one will like to see a blue iPhone. But I'm sure there's a million other people who don't.

I agree completely. It'll be like the gold iPod mini (if you remember). They stopped making it because people thought it was an ugly color and apple lost out.

I personally wouldn't mind a raw metal/polished iPhone (the same as the frames of the 4/4s). Or the same finish as the 2011 Mac mini. Still classy and sexy yet durable not a fingerprint magnet either, be kind of tough looking too.
Black, White, Gray/Polished.

These aren't iPod Nano's, marketed towards teens. So the Black and White is fine.

I'm sure Apple would of researched into more than just these two colours, but in the long run they would have too many left over in certain colours, which equals loss of sales, waste of production time etc..

For a start you'd end up with a shortage of the popular colours and an excess of the unpopular colours... The resale value would drop (for example, if you were selling your pink iPhone it's likely only girls would buy it, thus halving the number of potential buyers of your iPhone). Unlike an iPod you'd be staring at the screen of your iPhone for most of the time you're using it, therefore you don't want the bezel to stand out. Among other issues...

What does gender have to do with colour preferences?

Yes please.

I don't understand why anyone is against this though. We are not taking out black and white. You can still order a uniform and let us have the casual :)

Why do you care if my iPhone does not look "professional"?

Why not?

Sure I don't see why not. The different color schemes could help apple with marketing anyway.

From a manufacturing and logistics perspective, black and white make the most sense.

Demand for iPhones is very high. Splintering your resources for niche colors is probably not the best idea.

Imagine you walk into the Apple store and want a iPhone, and all they have left is orange. I'd be annoyed. Better for Apple to make more of what is neutral.

I would absolutely love a blue iPhone!

If iPhone came in colors, I would never put a case on it. Ever.

I don't put a case on it now.

90% of iPhone owners use cases anyway. Why cut into your potential stock by offering colors that Harley anyone sees. white and black are neutral enough that they won't clash with a majority of the cases. If you get a blue case for example it might not look good with a pink case or a slightly different hue of blue etc provides some of the phone is visible.
