iPad Mini is 2048 x 1536
1080p is 1920 x 1080

Ipad Mini is over!! FORGET IT!. Ipad Mini is Always on generation behind over the 9.7 Ipad. Ipad Mini 4 is the last Ipad Mini. Seriously, why Ipad Mini?? 9.7 Ipad is SO MUCH BETTER!!!!!!

First of all, it's not always a generation behind. The iPad Mini 2 and iPad Air came out at the same time and had the same CPU/GPU and memory. During the iPad event, the Mini was actually praised as "Every bit an iPad, just smaller".

Secondly, some people will prefer or need a more compact tablet. What's wrong with choices? Why do you want it to die? Sheesh.

Heavier too! Not as nice in the hand to use for hours! The Pro is not selling well and the 12.9" is being resold on eBay if you want to pick one up. I saw a seller relist his now for thr fourth time and drop it $100 each time until someone brought it!

1. iPad have screen ratio of 4:3 not 16:9! 1080p is calculated with 16:9 for 1920 X 1080 resolution! See link here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1080p#/search

2. Total agree with you on the desire for more compact size form factor! Just like some people like the iPhone SE, others like the 4.7" and still others like the 5.5" size!

Oh yes, I know. I have a 16:9 Galaxy Tab and a 4:3 iPad.

I think that 16:9 is better for media consumption (i.e. widescreen video) and certain types of games suited to widescreen like racing.

I think 4:3 is better for productivity, books, comics, web browsing, and other types of games such as board games.

With ios 10 on my 12.9" IPP, I have found that it is extremely responsive compared to ios 9.3.5

The only way I'm going to get the next 12.9" IPP is if they bump the overall performance to 2x otherwise this is it for now.

I thinking of buying a iPad 9.7 Pro but holding off until first week of Thanksgiving hoping for some discounts at Target, Walmart, etc... I don't even know if they stock it? I would prefer a Mini 5 however! We will see what happens in the month of October!

No, they announced new pricing and storage options at the same time as the iPhone event - that was your update!
This. They aren't going to change storage and pricing on an existing line only to replace/update that line one month later. Never been done, won't be done this time either.

Try again in spring 2017...

Wait , buy iPad Pro 2

Apple seems to get into a funk as to regularly releasing new versions of their products. They are lengthing their existing product cycle and do not indicate when they will do a new product release like that of the iPhone. The Macbook, Macs, iTouch, iPad seem to be in that category.

In the case of Ipad
Spring 2012- Ipad 3
Fall 2012-Ipad 4
Ipad 4 was released 6 months later because Ipad 3 is too underpowered. It has retina screen, which is a big improvement of Ipad 2 screen. But, the A5X processor is too weak to deal with a 9.7 retina screen. So, Apple saw the mistake of releasing Ipad 3 and then they decided to launch Ipad 4 with a stronger, faster processor than Ipad 3.

Fall 2013-Ipad Air 1

Fall 2014- Ipad Air 2. (9.7 inch) Which is a big improvement over Ipad Air
Fall 2015- Ipad Pro 12.9 inch- Apple wanted to make something different, a larger Ipad. However, many of us still prefer 9.7 inch Ipad .So, no 9.7 inch Ipad in 2015

Spring 2016-9.7 inch Ipad Pro.

Fall 2016- Ipad Pro 2 12.9 inch -Where are you????

Spring 2017- 9.7 Ipad Pro 2??? or Apple will not releasing any Ipad in spring 2017???

Yes! I am for a new Mini with new color gamut display, SoC10X, 4GB LPDDR4, Taptic button, 256GB storage option, 1080p, matte black color, dual speakers, dual Len camera, upgrade FaceTime /selfie front camera, new rear quad flash, and pen optional!

You're kidding yourself if you think that'll happen. Zero chance. Max 2 GB RAM, most likely A9 or A9X chip. As of Mini 3, Apple has clearly positioned the device as an entry level/pure content consumption device, which frankly doesn't require anything more than the Mini 4 has, much less the specs noted. I'd bet nothing more than an A9-level chip as a differentiator, if there is a new device. Apple would be smart to include pencil compatibility though.

That doesn't change the fact that making it 1080p will actually decrease the resolution.

What you should be asking for is 1440p - 2560 x 1440 would allow for a 16:9 ratio while also having a greater resolution than 2048 x 1536.

I think the next event will happen next year Spring 2017 to announce new products.

Soonest we'all see iPad Pro updates will be spring of 2017, if that.

Mac event in October, but I'd personally be surprised if the iPad is mentioned. More likely than not, it'll be a low-key event for macs. Updated MBP, possible update to the airs, bumps to the iMacs, and maybe an updated Mac Pro. I'd expect a new display release as well. No iPads this year.

Just bought the pro 9.7, couldn't wait any longer.. i think it will serve me well, until 2018 where the redesign will happen.

No iPad update until the spring. No Mac event, just new MacBook Pros and updated iMacs, and maybe those USB-C MacBook Airs. Press release and reviews.

No display, no Mac Pro or mini update.

I really like the idea of a 10.5" iPad. I really enjoy the larger pro but miss the smaller one. One in the middle would be perfect for me.

Software and productivity upgrades on the iPad is what is most needed.

That's interesting! I was thinking about that and initially thought the same way you did, but then I thought the opposite - instead of being the best of both worlds, it actually robs each of it's benefit. To me, 10.5" is not that much bigger than 9.7" to make a significant difference in screen size (so it doesn't have the large screen advantage of the 12.9") and the 9.7" form factor is at the maximum of "portability" (I wouldn't consider anything larger than the 9.7" to be "carry all the time" worthy - in fact, the 9.7" is probably too big). To me, the 10.5 not only doesn't solve a problem, it's worse off than other two options.

Personally, though, my solution was to just buy both the 12.9" (for home) and eventually the 9.7" (for walkin around).

It should be noted that "9.7" refers to the screen diagonal, not the entire device diagonal. I believe one aspect of Apple implementing a 10.5" screen diagonal is that it has smaller bezels, thus fitting within the current 9.7" form factor.

IF that was true, a 10.5" iPad with the same footprint as the 9.7" (essentially a bezel-less iPad), that would be AMAZING. Unfortunately, I don't see Apple doing that.

I don't think it's that unlikely. It wouldn't really be bezel-less either. Based on some official dimensions I got from Apple along with some math, I did a quick mock-up of what a 10.5" display would look like. It's not 100% accurate (the screen "active area is larger than my calculations for a 9.7" diagonal at a 4:3 ratio), but you can see that all you need to do is rearrange the camera and maybe remove the home button (which is supposed to happen with the iPhone 8), and you can easily fit the current form factor.
