That's not quite right, your body has a resting calorie burn rate as well as your "active" calorie burn - depending on your height, weight and gender this will be in the 2000/3000 region on average - you roughly need to eat this many calories to stay alive (although it isn't as simple as calories in minus calories burned, all kinds of factors (e.g. hormonal) affect it, Google it if you wish), active calories are simply bonus burn on top of your resting calories. Eating 200 calories a day is very very bad for you, and I know you were using it as a statement of ridicule but your underlying premise was slightly off, it should be more along the lines of:

"unless you're eating [resting daily calorie burn rate]+200 cals a day burning 300 as a goal means nothing."

Sorry if you understand this but your post could be misleading for those who don't!


Exactly what I was thinking! Misleading if you don't know about TDEE and how it works. Thanks for explaining for those who don't know and think that what they are doing might be a waste of time!
