Sometimes you want to protect your precious.... i want to protect it when going to the shooting range, would hate to see a hot shell land on it and damage it.
And some days you do things that might scratch it. Then i have the option to leave it off(and maybe wear my old pebble steel), or use the spigen tough armor case with it.

It is not only a piece of jewelry, but also a tool.
Before i got the apple watch, i would not wear my tissot to the range, but us an old casio watch, and when doing things that might damage it, i wore the casio.

That is exactly why I took mine back. I got a SS instead so as to not be limited
After thinking about it, I upgraded my sports rose gold to a SS. More band options, plus I like the premium feel of the SS watch.

It's a watch. Would you ever put a case on a Rolex? Or any other watch at 10x the price of an Apple watch?

I don't understand if it's because, for many people, it's the most expensive watch they'll own - and therefore want to protect it, or if it's because they just like hideous looking things. Maybe i'll never understand.

Out of curiosity, shooting ranges in NL? Pretty rare!

I would not wear a Rolex, Panerai or other expensive watch when there is a big chance on damaging it. Then I would wear a cheap expendable watch. But the Apple one is not so expensive as a rolex, and there are cases to protect them.
It serves a purpose

And there are many shooting ranges in the Netherlands. Not only Police and military but also civilian. Shooting is also a sport.

I guess that's the difference with you and me then. I wouldn't hesitate wearing a Breitling when doing outdoor activities. What's the point in having nice things if you're going to cover them up? It may serve a purpose, but for me, it's a complete no go.

I've never come across a range in all my years in Holland! Hence my surprise. Thought it was the reserve of Police/Military, pretty much.

After obsessing over which one to get (unfortunately it was all versions, SS, SBSS, Space Grey, and Silver, another thread pushed me to the Space Grey. I thought I was going to get the SS but it was too shiny for me. The silver aluminum didn't quite grab me as much either, and wasn't sure I could justify the extra $200 for the Space Black. And looking around the store, most of the associates had the Space Grey (think different, right?) I have 14 days to change my mind, and there's a part of me that may go back and swap for the Space Black but I think the Space Grey will be good! Grabbed a white band (one of the associates had this same combo, which I liked, so I was glad to see it in person) and of course AppleCare+.
I've setup my Dark Sky and Fantastical, just need to figure a few things out. I've already replied to a few texts from my wife today, so far so good (though I wish I could send a follow up text easily from notifications but it clears the one I just responded to, so have to use the social button, AFAIK).
I do have a Skinomi screen protector on it (tried the full body but it was a PITA so I took it off) and I can't tell it's on there. The pic shows a mix of glare and finger prints, but it looks perfect, so I'm happy.

Have had my Midnight Blue 42mm Apple Watch Sport in Aluminum Gold for just over a month now and love it. I do want to find a nice brown leather band for it though.
