And the gray bg even matches my surf blue loop I have on right now šŸ‘šŸ½

edit: hold the phone! watchOS 7 lets you change the color of the picture with the standard gradient/color wheel picker! Of course now I need to make a fully neutral version myself so the color truly matches

Ok I made a grayscale version that looks way better and also snaps nicely to the bottom edge when it does that annoying pop to the keyframe

That's pretty bada$$ šŸ‘ Dumb question: can this be used with a stock watch OS on a S3 or do you need the WatchOS beta and a newer watch?
You need the beta just to be able to grab external watchfaces. The Photos face will convert for your watch style. As for the color feature I hope that makes it to the old style too.

Heres the photo. Not sure the live will survive.

Woke up feeling spunky, colorful and bright, so it's a Pride kinda day.

I gott say, I really love this band. I'm glad I read the thread about this particular band, and saw so many "wear what you like/want" replies, which mirror my mindset. I would've bought it regardless but was happy to see so many of a like mind.

@FenC I apologize for any ruin wrought on your household finances with my ongoing shots here (this is the last matching face pic until the new bands though, my Bordeaux/rose is 40mm)

The bicolor face with the line break def calls for less numerals

My enthusiasm for those faces is dampened a little as shown in your photos - I think they look much better at some times than others, and the split diagonally is (to my eye) more pleasing than horizontal or vertical.

Your pics remind me of when I had my S4 and how much I enjoyed the faces - every one way classier than even the best the standard set has to offer - but it made me sad when the screen turned off and as I had my S5 by then I only used it for sleep tracking.

Best case for me now is maybe the S6 is only as rumoured, in which case I’m not excited to have one and I can pick up a nice used S5 Hermes with a band I don’t already have from a European seller (so it has the right LTE bands for me) and recover a bit of the cost by selling my S5 SS. Of course if the S6 is so much thinner it immediately makes the S5 look like it comes from the 80’s then my MasterCard is gonna melt.

Omg yeah you read my mind. I realized like fifteen minutes later how poorly timed my pic was WRT hand angles. Half past the hour is pretty bad haha. Yeah there’s already an s5 with sport band (and light scratching) for $780USD (auction starts at $600) so it’s conceivable we could see a listing with leather band like that before long. The precipitous ā€œdrive it off the lotā€ depreciation of the Hermes is our gain.

There’s still part of me that thinks Apple’s ā€œwow they did that one year earlier than everyone thoughtā€ might be a thinner case. But the battery capacity makes it seem likely this is the first year we don’t get the surprise ā€˜wow’ that was cellular in 2017 or AOD in 2019. The life-saving and stress-detecting of the s6 will prob be it, which is fine, it’s an adoption plateau moment before it truly becomes ubiquitous and the ā€œyou’re risking your life by not owning one momentā€ that will be Tim’s legacy as he rides off into the sunset and hands the keys to his twin Jeff Williams.

I know this isn’t the thread to discuss it, but I’ve deliberately not read any of the ones with S6 in the title.

I very much expect this to be an ā€œS yearā€ for the Watch, though the cadence of Watch releases is far less established than for the iPhone - albeit that looks set to change this year with a 12 rather than 11S.

Also I admit that this time last year I was just as uninterested in the S5, but AOD caught me by surprise and it’s such a game changer I outright have no interest in wearing an earlier generation since I got my first one. I think thinness is all that’s left that I really care about now, but I’m open to being shown what I don’t yet know I can’t live without. Sure an incremental bump in battery life or speed would be welcome, but that isn’t enough to make me bust out my wallet - and I’m not expecting much in the way of a thinner device either; certainly not enough it will be obvious without side by side comparison.

I’m much more interested in the 12 Pro Max when it lands, and if the rumour of a rebooted MacBook with Apple silicon and 15+ hour battery life comes true I’m all over that to replace most of what my iPad Pro does today.

Wasn’t the 5 just a 4s? Only added AOD and a compass.

I think the 5 was a 4S especially since it used the same SOC.
Also considering the Series 6 will have sleep tracking, panic attack detection I see that as a bigger upgrade from the 5 than the 4 to 5.

You think they have further sleep features to unveil based on the s6 hardware? That would be welcome as the feature is a very classic simple start from Apple that is heavily relying on the behavior modification of these extra Lock Screen curtains.

IMO AOD wasn’t ā€œjustā€, it was huge. Real watches aren’t a blank screen most of the time so AOD made it a real watch. You could argue that technically it was an ā€œSā€ increment - I don’t really have much interest in that conversation, but from what I read it was a fairly major display change. From a user experience perspective however it instantly obsoleted earlier generations.

Compass - meh. More storage - like speed and battery life an incremental bump is always better than nothing, but agreed that’s an ā€œSā€ feature.

It’ll be interesting to see if they do.

I haven’t bothered with the public betas other than iPadOS14 - and an aborted Big Sur virtual machine that didn’t like it when I made it accessible from a second user account on my Mac. My expectation of Apple sleep tracking is that itā€˜s like many other Apple apps; visually quite attractive but very low on power features. Look at Activity versus any of the dozens of fitness tracking apps. My wife tells me Cycle is similarly simplified when compared with the third party app she was using before it launched. Health versus specialist heart rate apps is the same. I’m sure there are more.

I expect I’ll have a look and then go back to AutoSleep, and equally sure if there is a sleep tracking enhancement in the S6 that AutoSleep et al will embrace it in their apps also. A rumour I just read of fast charging might be a bonus for sleep tracking - top the watch off in a few minutes rather than the (still quite short) time it takes today. For me personally not a biggie as I have two S5s to switch between, but for a single watch owner looking to wear it 24/7 could be a big deal.
