It’ll be interesting to see if they do.

I haven’t bothered with the public betas other than iPadOS14 - and an aborted Big Sur virtual machine that didn’t like it when I made it accessible from a second user account on my Mac. My expectation of Apple sleep tracking is that it‘s like many other Apple apps; visually quite attractive but very low on power features. Look at Activity versus any of the dozens of fitness tracking apps. My wife tells me Cycle is similar when compared with the third party app she was using before it launched. Health versus specialist heart rate apps. I’m sure there are more.

I expect I’ll have a look and then go back to AutoSleep, and equally sure if there is a sleep tracking enhancement in the S6 that AutoSleep et al will embrace it in their apps also. A rumour I just read of fast charging might be a bonus for sleep tracking - top the watch off in a few minutes rather than the (still quite short) time it takes today. For me personally not a biggie as I have two S5s to switch between, but for a single watch owner looking to wear it 24/7 could be a big deal.
Yeah...the democratization mission started by SJ back in the day always has them trying to straddle the threshold between “minimum effective feature set” and “scaring away the great mass of users with too many features.”

While I am jealous of the features/stats I see on Fitbit or even third-party watchOS/iOS apps, at the end of the day I like settling for the first-party solution. I want that lock-screen integration and the connection to system-wide Bedtime alarm. My only niggle is that I wish  knew how awesome Breathe.app is for falling asleep and incorporated it inside of the Sleep routine. I feel like I’m cheating unlocking the watch out of sleep mode (it functions very similar to water lock, although the new beta thankfully doesn’t require so much Digital Crown turning) to start my bedtime Breathe...

And I hope they’ve made some advances with their inductive charging tech. Runs so hot and is so unhealthy for all these batteries’ long-term health, to say nothing of the eco-unfriendly inefficiency.

Ebay (watchstrapco). Black leather, there are also other colors. And on their web page plenty of leather straps. Not advertising, just they look good!

IMO AOD wasn’t “just”, it was huge. Real watches aren’t a blank screen most of the time so AOD made it a real watch. You could argue that technically it was an “S” increment - I don’t really have much interest in that conversation, but from what I read it was a fairly major display change. From a user experience perspective however it instantly obsoleted earlier generations.

Compass - meh. More storage - like speed and battery life an incremental bump is always better than nothing, but agreed that’s an “S” feature.
I think suggesting AOD instantly obsoleted previous generations is completely and utterly false. Of course it didn’t. It was just a slight improvement to the user experience where the user didn’t have to move their wrist to see the display. Personally I’ve turned AOD off on my series 5 as it drains my battery by 30% more during the day. Have I made my watch obsolete in your eyes now then?

You are unaware of what IMO means I guess?

I won’t wear a pre S5 Watch anymore. That means, in my opinion, it literally obsoleted the older models. And I use the word literally in it’s true meaning, not the modern overused one where it means anything but.

And you’ve said you turned AOD off because it drains the battery. Several times. I even agreed that is has to use more power than a display that turns off.

I get it; your opinion is different to mine. I can live with that without feeling the need to try to change yours, or negate it. Have the respect to do likewise.

Wow chill out, just discussing this with you, not trying to be personal. I respect anybody’s opinion when it’s different and the discussion is civil and as this is a discussion forum I’d like to think those with a different opinion can challenge others reasonably. It’s no big deal if you think previous versions are obsolete, I just have a different definition of that word. Obsolete to me means unusable and redundant and the only reason I disagreed with you was because none of the previous Apple Watches prior to the S5 are redundant in use. Not to worry though

Happy to discuss it, and equally not to make it personal.

To me, the older versions were made obsolete - AOD was that big a deal. That isn’t me saying I think the older ones are obsolete in absolute terms, just to me. I also mentioned GPS and water resistance being added to the S2. I imagine that was a game changer to a lot of people, but for me it wasn’t a big deal. That it’s a device that appeals to different people for different reasons is an amazing thing, but we’re all different.

I hadn’t picked up in the fact you weren’t using the absolute definition of ‘obsolete’. Personally I think there is perhaps a more fitting word like ‘outdated’ when it’s an opinion to save crossed wires.

Like the “11 Pro Max will be outdated compared to the 12 Pro Max when released next month IMO”. If I were to say the “11 Pro Max will become obsolete when the 12 Pro Max comes out”, for me that wouldn’t really be true, but hey, no big deal as it’s not really important to us what people on the internet think really.

Old black woven nylon with the new GMT face. Easily my favorite of the new faces in watchOS 7. Can function as a more traditional watch face version of the solar dial if you select your current location or can let you have a world clock without wasting a complication spot. Also really nice to see Apple finally add some more watch faces with the option to put the date inside the dial like on an analog watch.
