I'm way late to the game, and kind of thrilled. I just discovered this Clockology app early this morning just because I was messing around with this Galaxy Watch I got for Xmas last year, creating custom faces for that again after that watch went nuts.

Anyway, after 5+ years, we finally get some freedom with the faces.
Only a few here, Hermes face on a AW SS (also a Rolex face which eh, I may remove...too cheesy)
Now I have to look into how to create these .clock files on my own. :)

I bet the Hermes owners hate that you can now get those faces effectively for free. They’ve paid a massive premium for those faces in reality lol.

Are Clockology faces really faces, though? Especially for AOD owners. I’m not trying to start a fight, it just seems like a steep list of trade-offs. Plus there’s an Hermes face now with complications.

First of all, the premium isn‘t „massive“ if you do the math. For a 44 stainless you pay 749$, for the 44 Hermès 1299$. If you deduct the 339$ that a Single Tour leather strap costs, the remaining difference is just 211$. For this you not only get the additional (and arguably best) Watch faces, but also an extra year of warranty (2 vs. 1). (Of course, if you don‘t care for the leather strap, the math changes, although you can sell an unused Hermès strap for a pretty penny). Second of all, those Clockology „faces“ are not real faces but an app running and thus in many ways not the same experience at all. Also, the „lol“ is very uncalled for and almost rude.

Not the same experience at all.

No. It’s just an app that is always running. They are not actual faces.
Exactly.

I have no interest in Clockology faces or Hermes Apple watches, I was just commenting on the appearance at first glance. Nothing rude about my post either just to clear that up too, just an observational comment. All the best.

I'm someone that was skeptical about the Clockology thing. I'd installed the app a few times, never really got my head around it, and deleted it again.

Tried again recently with the latest version and what a difference!

Before, there seemed to be too many compromises needed to use the Clockology faces, but now it is really well integrated. The app stays live all the time so it works almost like the Apple faces now.

The only things missing are Always On and complications. I thought I'd miss Always On, but not really as it happens. Because Clockology is now always live, it shows the watch face as fast as you can raise your wrist.

I was never one for complications so the lack of them is no big deal for me. To be fair Clockology is gradually getting some of its own and can show activity, weather, etc - although I don't use them personally.

Clockology also has a complication of its own that returns you to the app. If you end up on the stock Apple face, make sure it has the Clockology complication and you go back to your preferred face with one tap.

Finally, a lot of the people designing Clockology watch faces do an amazing job - great recreations of the originals.

Here's mine from earlier this morning - Patek Philippe face.

The lol just sounded to me like you were laughing at the „dopes“ that spent big bucks for an AW Hermès. Glad you cleared that up. All the best to you, too.

No offense, but „just“ no complications and no AOD made me LOL. Glad that this Clockology thing works for you, though.

For sure if complications are something you need, that would be a dealbreaker. For me, even with the Apple faces, I mainly use the full screen versions with no complications.

Also, if I want to see the time, I tend to lift my arm anyway. I’m way too old to be able to move my head down to waist level to look at my watch.

I do like the Hermès faces included with that version of the watch - the rest of the Apple analogue faces are very generic in comparison. I was very tempted to go that way with S6, but I wanted titanium rather than SS.

AOD was always a very divisive feature, some folks don‘t care at all and some could never go back to not having it. Complications are important for most people, though. But apparently Clockology is working on their own version of those, so that‘s something.

Absolutely, the Hermès faces are the best. But Titanium is also very nice, I loved my natural Ti S5.

While we are on the topic, I wonder if there's a good case/returns for a potential lawsuit by these brands against Clockology AND Apple for allowing unauthorised use of their brand names on "clock faces". Not much to make from suing Clockology I am sure, but Apple, that's another thing.

I’ve wondered that as well.

I’m sure Apple would never provide a way to directly add branded faces - if nothing else I’m sure the licensing agreement with Hermès prevents access to other brands.

Probably Clockology would argue it is fair use.

It’s also marketing I suppose. I told my wife I had a new hobby. Collecting the physical watches I have digital faces for. The first Patek Philippe we looked at was about $70k so that idea soon bit the dust
