Just re-started after jilggling the RAM slots.... 4gig recognised now... phew..... and a geekbench of....
3,476!!!!
This has been a really revealing exercise... and has totally changed my attitude and thoughts about upgrading....
Last Feb. I decided to take the plunge and pay extra for a BTO 2.6, figuring it would future proof it a little: However, I was convinced by others (not here) that that was delusory: .1 g would not make that much difference.
Psychologically, it did - and now, the fact that its showing competitive scores like that against the newer MBP's raises some interesting questions. It seems its not just a subjective thing....
I'm a pro-user, (music..Logic Pro etc...).... so small differences can add real value my productivity, and it seems, surprisingly, more longevity than I imagined.
I was playing on my old Yonah MBP 2.0 the other day, which I gave to my younger brother, and was really surprised about how sluggish it felt. This mac has felt blisteringly fast from day one, and never felt like its dropped it's pace.
It's by far the best and most "satisfying" computer experience in around 23 years using computers to make music.... something born out by these scores.
FWIW, I'm fastidious about keeping my mac clean (Onyx), and a carefully tiered filing system, no junk at all - just what I need. I wonder what difference that makes to the scores?

Early 2008 MBP T9500@ 2.6 (Penryn/ SR)

Thrilled, and strange thing is... I have 4gigs installed and only recognising 2... in system profiler too...
Will run hardware check and then retry... hmmmmmm
