My guess is that starlight is the same color as the white from last year. They just changed the name. Same thoughts on the black that is now midnight.

Not mine per-se but this is a White iPhone 12 compared to a Starlight 13 mini. The rails are very similar, though I'd say the finish on the 13 reflects the light very slightly differently. Obviously the back is no longer ... pink !

Weird. I got the Starlight 13 mini and held it next to my white 12 mini. Identical. But your photos show a warm hue.
Perhaps it’s the lighting in the Apple store that highlights it. I have a black 12 mini and under direct sunlight the aluminium has a really deep inky blue hue.

I’m pretty sure the staff in the store thought I was nuts, trying to grab two phones from either side of the bench while I’m muttering about how Starlight is different on the watch and the iPad and the iPhone.

Thanks for the pics IZac. If I buy the 13 Mini straight up then I will probably get it in Midnight, but if I trade in my Silver 12 Mini, then ill get the 13 Mini in Starlight.

I’m still waiting for more pictures and comparisons to the 12 white before deciding on either blue or Starlight. I normally always buy white/silver, but I didn’t like the 12 white (too purplish), and also the aluminum was slightly too champagne-y for my taste, so I’m very curious about how exactly Starlight differs.

I’ve read that midnight is actually dark, dark blue. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I didn’t like the black 12 anyway, but am also interested to see if starlight is actually different. I liked the 12 white, along with 12 Pro white.

Midnight is actually a really dark navy blue, whereas last year it was just plain black. Some of the YouTubers showed the blue colour quite carefully. Some have said that starlight is supposed to have a tinge of gold, I’m just trying to gauge how much…

Just came back from the store, and yes, the Midnight definitely has a hint of blue in it! Quite a nice color actually, and now I am doubting my future choice of Starlight (Haven’t seen it in person as of yet).
The Midnight also hides the hideous camera bump much better.

I have a black 12 mini now. What I don’t like about the black and blue ones is the lack of contrast with the sides. I like that the white (starlight) has silver sides.
if I could have an iPhone made to spec, I would choose silver sides (not shiny: either brushed like the iPhone 4 or aluminum like the iPhone 12) and black or blue glossy back. Oh well…

The black 12 has a blue tint as well depending on what light you view it in.

Let’s not ignore what Apple is doing here. They always do this same BS with the lower model phones. They make the color a little off, and not perfect. Then they charge you $30 more if you want an unlocked phone. Why? So you spend more on the Pro.

I’ve had the 12 black for a year, without a case, and I never seen any shade of blue in it, no matter how dark. I’m typing on it right now. It’s just black, zero blue. Unless I got the only copy that came out pure black in which case I should probably sell it as a rarity

My 13 mini in Starlight just arrived. I hear people on videos say “It’s white”. Definitely not white. I really like the color….glad I went for it. Definitely a keeper! Here are a couple of pictures next to my iPhone 11 that I took (color balanced against an 18% grey card). I slipped in an airPods case (pure white) so you can see the difference. It’s subtle…but it’s there.

I have a black 12 mini since last year, and in sunlight it has a slightly blueish tint, with a hint of purple. In most lighting conditions you don't see it, but it's not 100% neutral black.

Thanks for those pictures. Looks like eggshell, and the antenna bands seem to be whiter than the back.

Cameras have so much automatic color corrections these days that the YouTube videos and review article photos are mostly useless for judging the exact color shades. Also for the regular 13 blue, the available videos and photos range from almost baby blue to teal or almost aquamarine.

Okay now someone share photos of the pink 13. I am not a pink fan at all, but I am in love with that color! Next year I'm gonna buy one when the 14s come out to save for my granddaughter's bday a few months later.
