my uncle works for a company that builds bird cages for zoos, and they use 1" alumium square tubing and these patented plastic corners that just pound into the tubing with a rubber mallet, so we made a full wraparound headboard sideboard corner desk out of the tubing, but instead of wire, we used sheet aluminum and oak plywood that i hand sanded and hand stained. guess you think it took forever to make, right? it actually only took 4 or 5 saturdays of work to put it all together. I LOVE this setup.

now, on to the tech

Still need the SuperDrive =]

Although when i upgrade to a rMbp i'm going to have to part with it..

You'll be pleased to know that Apple's external SuperDrive for the Macbook Air works fine with the rMBP. I used it to install Final Cut Studio onto mine.

It's fine for the occasional need for a SuperDrive.

Yeah you're right.
Once i have the funds to pick up a rMbp i will do so :)

For now i'm just going to upgrade my HD to SSD and add more RAM...

Thanks to the backpack the MBA and external/backup hard drive can be hidden away nicely behind the ACD.

Here is my setup:

Hey Aneres11, everything about your style is top notch. I'd like to follow your design/inspiration on PInterest, Twitter, Facebook or wherever you are these days.

Where can I see more of your style!?

I'm "makerofthings7" on almost every social media outlet on the net. Let me know...

my iMac and thunderbolt display

I have the Boa II as well, but my iMac and Thunderbolt Display do not line up properly like your photo. Is there a special way to get them to line up?

UPDATE: I came across one of your photos on another thread and answered my own question. For anyone else interested, the spacers where the arms connect to the post can be moved around as necessary to align different displays. I will be posting photos of my setup when I am done.

Here's mine:

2011 MBP hooked up to it.

My desk wasn't cleaned before this! I always keep it spotless, at the end of every day I throw away anything on it that doesn't belong there. Keeps me trained ;)

Hidden underneath are 2 GTech 3TB disks for storage and back up.

Are you an Alien? (check our reflection on iPad)

Cool setup! Do you have a link for where to get the Aluminum connectors etc?

i dont know if you can order just the connectors, but you may be able to contact the company (my uncle pretty much runs it with one other guy) through their website, and order the tubing and connectors to be shipped pre cut and assemble it yourself. or if you can find 1 inch alum. square tubing you may be able to order the connectors, the company is called corners limited, just google it and you may find a contact page.

Well after a bit of work on Saturday, I've mounted my 27in ACD onto a Humanscale M7 Monitor Stand. I've done this for two reasons, one is that by default the ACD is a touch too low for me. With the Humanscale I can adjust it to suit my needs. Also the stand whilst an ok place to put my Macbook Air, it cause the Air to move too easily when pulling cables etc out.

Image

I already had the Humanscale M7 mount in the loft, so the only thing I needed was the Apple VESA adapter. I've fitted one on the previous generation of Cinema Displays and that was very hard. The current ones are so much easier. The hidden screws are such an clever bit of engineering. Something only Apple would do.

Image

I don't use the full adjustment on the mount as I don't need it all at present.

With this setup I'm down to so few cables under the desk. It's crazy how far Apple have come with thinning out the cable mess over the last few years. My cable try underneath the desk looks rather sparse now.

Nice. What mouse mat is that?

lots of nice setups in here that have convinced me to save-up and get one of these suckers, always thought it might be to big for my desk

I hate saying this but I think my 30" ACD at home is too big, I prefer going into the work office which has 2 x 20.5" monitors.

Dual smaller monitors for me are better.

The ACD's are stupidly expensive, still want some though :D

My first Cinema Display was a 20" that I bought with my Powermac G5:

When I got my 2009 Mac Mini, a friend of mine had another 20", so for awhile I had dual monitors:

Now I'm running a 24" LED Cinema Display. It's super excellent, and I'll probably run it until I can't anymore. Here it is with my 2011 Mac Mini

I still have the 20" monitors, all tucked away in their original boxes with ADC-DVI adapters. I'm still trying to decide what to do with them. Maybe I'll sell them at some point. They probably aren't worth much, though.
