you never know once you sign the new contract for an iPhone unpgrade whether Apple will release a new iPhone shortly thereafter.
if you know apple you know they are a bit predictable they generally do one iPhone a year they have yet to release a phone then soon after release another.

The thing about about the iPhone though is that there's practically 4 of them, but it doesn't feel like it. It's basically the same phone. The iPhone.

With Android, you get all these spin off products.

Not last time - I timed my contract to end in July assuming the typical June release, and consequently I had to wait for a 4S. Since the iPhone is so popular in the UK, Orange would not give my any sort of discount because I paid over the odds in the months between July and October.

Also, I will be somewhat chagrined if Apple release some new fancy iPhone next June. I'm not going to throw my toys out of my pram if this happens, but I do not see what would be so awful about Apple giving consumers some sort of heads up about what they're up to (and when).

I think Apple do it right, they wait till they have a product ready for consumer release and then announce release day. It's kinda a double edged sword with this though because if they announced an iPhone for a date a year ahead and it gets delayed people will get annoyed but same time like yourself people are getting annoyed not knowin anything.

There are five of them, but I agree, it feels like 3. I don't know if I agree Android perpetuates spin off products. Is every windows machine a spin off product perpetuated by windows?

Tired of the BS surrounding Apple release of products the secrecy, the games they play with their new stuff - moving on, need a new phone and can't deal with the: "it will be June, no it will be October, no it will be November" no it will be July" - "Well I saw the glass, well I saw the cover, I saw the..."

I SAW THE LIGHT - DONE WITH APPLE IPHONES ...!!!:mad::mad:

lmaoo you can't be serious..

I think if you did a survey of the population at large the result would be:

no. of people who don't give the tiniest crap when the new iPhone is coming out >> people who do

Most people don't buy a new phone every year: they maybe get a new one every 18mo-2 years, when their contract is up, if they can be bothered. They also (at least the "normal" people I know) don't know much about or care about the exact specs of what they're buying, so it doesn't matter to them when the new model is coming. It's only us geeks who obsess over the incremental upgrades and queue for stuff on release day...

What's there to deal with? If you stopped clicking on articles and logging into Gizmodo everyday- and just checked Apple's website, you wouldn't be distraught.

You know media sources like to run their mouths. Apple's website has ALL the information.

All with you man. I'm sick of it too. I want Apple to disclose the existence and release date of any product they make eight months in advance from now on, including spec sheets and pictures. In fact, I'm writing them an angry email about it right now.

I kind of agree with this to a point. While it may be a good marketing strategy that builds a lot of hype, it alienates the customers that actually shop around for products and actively compare specs.

The "new model" has no bearing on the people who just see a commercial and instantly want an iPhone. But those of us who try to time purchases for max benefit never know when we'll be able to take advantage of our upgrades.

You do understand that by keeping everyone in the dark on future product plans, it allows Apple to sell as much of their current gen product as possible. By doing this it also allows them to maximize profits. The only people coming up with release dates are all of us on this site, and others like it. Apple does not release vapor ware, and they do not ever release premature products. With that being said, I'm glad for sites like this satisfying my lust for early product leaks. :D

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Okay...so you're ditching the iPhone because they don't go public on product releases until they are ready? Are you also tired of the lottery because they don't give out the numbers in advance too? This has got to be the dumbest logic I have heard in a while.

I'm done with Google because they don't tell me what the doodle is going to be on any given day in advance. Oh, and I'm done with having babies because the sex of the baby is kept a secret for so long.

I think that the OP's point is more about the endless speculation and rumors due to Apple's secrecy more than the secrecy itself.

I also agree to a point. At some point, all this speculation on when a product is going to be released, what it's going to be named, whether or not it has a home button, etc. gets tiring to read.

I wouldn't necessarily abandon Apple products because of it though, just avoid those threads/topics.

Well that one is a lame example...lol. That has no relativity at all in this. You must not have kids.....lol

In anycase, it dont hurt to give out something coming in the next iPhone. Hec there is already buzz of Androids next systems being called Jelly Bean and then Key Lime Pie. Just not sure what products which is going where yet but it is something. ICS hasnt even been out very long and the next best is being mentioned already.
Apple cant even tell you that there MAY be a larger screen which would really be a big thing for them and im betting if it dont happen, they will lose many customers.

Does it really matter?

Is it just me, or do Apple product releases come regularly and often? It feels like just yesterday the iPod touch 4G was released.

Protip:

stop reading rumour articles and buy the stuff you need today.

What i find worse than the apple secrecy thing is companies who promise "oh well in 3rd quarter our new phone will be awesome!" to try and get people to wait, and then it turns out to be a piece of crap with shocking battery life, or whatever.

Ignore the rumours. Ignore the roadmaps. If you need a phone (or mac, or appletv, or whatever) today, go and test what is out there today and buy based on that.

Stuff shipping today > stuff that has been announced and may ship in X months (i.e., vapour).

If you already HAVE a phone, computer, etc that is totally serviceable, and you're agonising over what may be out in the next 6 months: get a life. Go outside, talk to some real people, socialise, etc. Agonising over what new shiny thing to buy to replace your perfectly good shiny thing and whining about it when there are people out there in poverty or staving in africa etc = pretty weak.

If I change ecosystems, it will be because something else better suites me. I will not leave in an angry tirade containing little to no logic by writing a post and hoping that I show others the error in their ways. I will only hope that what I choose works as well or better for me than the great experience I have had with Apple products.

If I could, I would set the above to auto post a reply to the occasional threads that pop up wherein people announce their departure from :apple:.

For those who bother, Apple's secrecy works well because it props up resale value.

I understand your point. The 4S is my first iPhone. It was really difficult trying to preplan what phone to get with all the secrecy surrounding the rumors of the 4S. For me, this was unbearable. If I knew what it looked like and what the specs were, it would help me make a decision if it's worth the wait. But, this is Apple's approach to marketing and if I want the iPhone, I have to hold off and wait it out.

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode, "The Soup Nazi". Obey and follow direction when ordering soup or just get out and no soup for you.

Why don't you just enjoy your phone and not worry about what's coming next?

Then stop reading the rumors. You only have yourself to blame.
