Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this which I noticed with new 11 Max Pro which I noticed happening right after 13.01.

I can do a shut down then press side button and nothing. Button feels normal and works with all other functions. I think it’s software as button does all other stuff as in bringing up wallet to pay. Takes screenshots etc. Everything else it’s supposed to do.

I am in my 14 days but doubt store has green 256. I do have AppleCare and it was bought thru Apple using ATT Next program. Wondering how an exchange effects that. But it happens to my wife’s XS also.

Haven’t found any issue online regarding others having this issue.

Thanks

I have had the same exact issue. I have the same exact phone for ATT. I returned the phone tonight and the one I got does the same exact thing. I had this issue when I first turned on the phone the day I got it. And that was with 13.0

Crazy. I was going to return but once I saw it on my wife’s XS I knew it was software. Thanks so much for the response. I’ve worded it every way possible with google but don’t find anything other then YouTubes from Payette forward.
Luckily I don’t reboot often so it will be fixed I hope soon.

You have to press and hold till it powers on. May take 5-10 seconds even on XS Max.
I am aware of that. It used to take about six seconds. I can hold it overnight and it won’t restart. I plug it in and it restarts. I reboot and it will work. It’s erratic and isn’t working like it had been. It (the problem) started on ios13 Thanks

It’s iOS 13! iPhone XS/XR here.

After turning it off, it won’t work even if kept pressed for 15s.
I have to let go, give it some more seconds and then it powers on.

I have the same issue but realized it is software. iOS 13 takes a loooooong time to shut down. After you shut down the phone, you have to wait 30 seconds before trying to turn back on... then your power button will work fine. It’s not the button, but software.

i have a pro max.

Since iOS 13 I now have to hold down the button on my XS for a good 10+ seconds. Thats even after waiting ages for it to shut down.

iOS 12 I used to press for 2 seconds to power on.

Was just thinking about this yesterday. I have the same issue. Wait for ever and then hold forever. I was wondering if I had a problem then saw this thread.

I remember around iOS 8 or 9 my phone went from a close to instant on/off to still a quick shutdown but about 6 second start up.
I call startup the from the time I push the button to time I see the white Apple come on screen.
It’s been a very long time since I’ve had otherwise.
I would be quite happy just to have it respond the way it should with every push of the button.

I'm pretty sure there's already a thread with the same issue/question as I responded to it.

It takes about 6-7 seconds of holding the button on my 11 Pro Max. The response to my posting this was 'sounds about right.'

I am recently having the same exact issue but I'm on a XS Max so it's definitely iOS 13.

about what the button not starting phone (the topic of this thread) or the time to start which I didn't ask about?

6 seconds has been pretty consistent for me and the other phones in my home.

this post and thread is about "Side Button Wont Always Turn On Phone iOS 13"

So I called AppleCare. I explained my phone delivered on the 20th and the replacement I got from my local store last night have the same issue. They said if others are having this issue you need to call so they can assign a case number to it. And you can also report it on apple.com\feedback.

I wanted it documented in a case so they have a report on t. That’s how they know there are problems. I encourage others to do the same.

Volume Up button plus Right Side button.
Had this start on one of the iOS 13 betas. Must be a change. XS Max. Am assuming will be the same when my 11 Pro Max shows up.

Explain what you are saying please.
As i just tried "Volume Up with Side Button" to Start Phone and absolutely nothing different on my phone by doing this.

‘Holding down both buttons (at the same time) should cause the phone to start up after a shut down.
This is how it now works on my XS Max using iOS 13.

Jagolden:

Quite strange.
Doesn’t do anything on mine.
Apple Support informed me via chat nothing changed in regards to shut down or restart button actions on iOS13

Thanks appreciate it.

I see the part with volume down button used on older iPhones 7+ and older which is opposite from other poster using his volume up button.

I had read that a few day’s back unfortunately nothing pertains to this issue I’m experiencing.
