If someone wants a copy of the last 10.12.6 Sierra installer, just realised that I still have the full 5.03GB Sierra installer in my applications (now copied to desktop!). Anywhere I can upload it...?

Sure this does NOT solve the direct download issue from Apple, but may help others around here wanting it in the meantime...
How can I get the full Sierra installer?

^Yeah, we know that already (read my thread opener).

Really? Then that makes it an even worse issue.

Has anyone tried contacting Apple about this; either via phone or online? I tend not to bother as AppleCare staff are clueless on most things non-obvious, making dealing with them torturous.
[doublepost=1506439767][/doublepost]...on the phone right now (god are they clueless!), she told me first to google "Sierra download", which gave me an (old?) link to it in the MAS:
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/macos-sierra/id1127487414?mt=12

Hence warning "Item Not Available - The item you've requested is not currently available in the UK Store." and I bet it's not in the US or any other international store now, either love!

...then she emailed me this link for the 10.12.6 Combo update, which is not it either:
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1931

...and we continue on hold...

...then passed to Senior Advisor, a 'difficult' man, who seems to be implying everyone can use High Sierra with no other software issues, and/or it's my fault for not upgrading sooner (erm, WTF has that got to do with it?!), and/or he doesn't have a clue, so is saying anything to get rid of me?!

...now on hold while he's checking my Apple ID (waste of time, comes to mind, given I've explained to his thick head that this is an issue for EVERYONE and not me personally!)...

...and we continue on hold...

It worked for me just now. I'm wondering if it won't work for you because they sent you the US link and you're in the UK, since your other comments seem to indicate UK, and I clicked it from a US Mac in the US.

Whoops! I missed the note that the link started working. Thought it might have been a regional thing.

glad I found this High Sierra has issues on my 2014 Mac mini (I have a hdd with files that have custom icons and it freezes the OS every time I open it)

never had to downgrade an OS before :(

hey i got a cloud drive you could upload it to...
I downloaded high sierra about a week ago.The new OS was really smooth at first but after me restarting the macbook pro it just went down hill. The mac started glitching...GLITCHING. Never have i expierenced this from an apple product but now... simple taskes it toke minutes to do on sierra, it takes hours and days to do on high sierra. I am very unsatisfied. You would expect this from Microsoft engineering, not Apple.

Can someone confirm that these OSX/macOS installers do not go out of date (certificate issues, or similar)? I thought they were reusable indefinitely?

AFAIK, all downloaded installers will expired in few years. So, even have the backup installer on hand, they may suddenly stop working in future.

The work around I personally prefer is to use the mas-cli, which can be installed via Homebrew. Then all you need to know is just the correct reference number to download the installer you want.
  • OS X 10.7 Lion:444303913
  • OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion:537386512
  • OS X 10.9 Mavericks:675248567
  • OS X 10.10 Yosemite:915041082
  • OS X 10.11 El Capitan:1018109117
  • macOS 10.12 Sierra:1127487414
  • macOS 10.13 High Sierra:1246284741

I don't understand, I have mas installed and when searching for those numbers no results are found. How are you able to download those old MacOS installs with mas, exactly?

It's an 'historical' thing. You had to have previously downloaded the OS versions when they were the current versions. If you did, they will show up on the Purchased tab within the MAS. If you did not download/install them via the MAS when they were the current versions, they will not be available for you.

Okay, thanks for the clarification. Seems I did not download them from the store, rats.

You mean MAS or mas-cli?

I was talking about mas-cli, not MAS, there is no "Purchased tab" in mas-cli. It's a command line tool, no tab, no GUI.

The iTunes link listed above is working for me. Now to figure out if I truly want to downgrade or not.

Hey, just a note - the direct links still work!
MacOS 10.12 Sierra: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-sierra/id1127487414?mt=12
MacOS 10.13 High Sierra: https://itunes.apple.com/app/macos-high-sierra/id1246284741?l=en&mt=12

I was on 10.12.x Sierra, and never downloaded High Sierra ( usually I do, but somehow missed that one ), and now Mojave is out - it's next to impossible to get it directly from the store - this link saves my ass! I was forced to update after updating to iOS 12.x and was unpleasantly notified that my sync Phone/Mac's won't work if do not go at least to 10.13.

Those links don't work for me - probably because I have previously downloaded an older version of High Sierra .

I haven't installed it, just kept the installer file, now the MAS download button reads 'installed' (in German) , and is no longer active .
It's not in 'purchased' apps either, so Apple is trying really hard to keep our hands off previous OSX versions ...

You just need to delete the older copy of High Sierra, or put it on an external disk, and eject that disk from the computer.
