I’ve only ever gotten Apple deliveries via UPS, and the delivery guy told me that my iPhone X did not require a signature. I was shocked, and he showed me his instructions. They did indeed say leave at the door.

Thanks to the UPS tracking app, I knew he was nearby, so I was by my front door, which was the only reason I caught him to get it delivered to my hands.

I had two 256GB iPhone X delivered this week to my residence. No signature required - delivered by UPS. They left them both outside the door (and as usual didn’t even ring the bell).

Something has changed in Apple's policies, it can't just be the couriers. I was alarmed back in September when I realized a FedEx driver dropped off 2 packages containing an iPad Pro and some accessories on my unsheltered front porch and just drove away. Argggh. I only happened by chance to see the FedEx truck passing my place and realized he was going slowly... and... accelerating. Right, so I looked out back and then out front and sure enough, there was my stuff on the front porch no sig no knock on the door no nada.

All was well with content of the boxes but I was still annoyed they'd left over a grand sitting out in the weather... even if this is a rural area and maybe no one else was likely to notice the packages.

I did call Apple about the no-sig required, but the rep just said she'd make a note of it and I said don't just make a note of it tell someone higher up the chain because it's an anomaly. Now it sounds like it's more like par for the course. I still don't understand why they would drop a sig requirement for expensive goods.

Maybe they crunched a lot of numbers, Apple and the couriers, and ended up calculating that so far the requirement for sigs costs them all more in re-delivers and lost good will and hassles with customers who are annoyed they missed the delivery than it [will?] cost them in the occasional theft or fraudulent claim of nondelivery. If that's the case they may have cooked the numbers a little for the sake of courier convenience and gas money...

FedEx is doing it, too. I ordered an 8 Plus for a family member last week, and it was left at the door with no signature required (see proof below). A friend had the iPhone X delivered to his apartment's front door in a large complex yesterday by UPS (packages with signature required are usually taken to the front office). He's just lucky he had signed up for UPS delivery notifications and ran home to get it before someone else helped themselves to it.

My release-day iPhone X came by FedEx with signature required.

ETA: The FedEx screenshot does say "release authorized" because I have that on file with them and live in a safe (relatively?) area, but this is the first time they've been able to deliver a high-priced item from Apple without a signature, what they call "direct signature required." My release only involves packages that are "indirect signature required." I am going to revoke that release as I don't want this kind of responsibility for lost/stolen packages in the future, especially ones of this level of value.

I'm tired of the no ding dong ditchers leaving my packages at the neighbors house so they can steal them!

My UPS X, 8+. and Apple Watch all required signature. My 4k Apple TV did not.

I own a business in Jacksonville FL and we get daily UPS deliveries that in the past always required a direct signature. All of a sudden no signatures at all are required. I asked the UPS man and he said it was new policy. My X was delivered by UPS and no signature was required.

You replied to me! I wasn't even talking to you. So you were obviously wrong as someone else even pointed out.

The someone does not have anything to do with it. Wow I was wrong, I am so crushed.

Last the three devices from Apple all delivered by UPS. Not FedEx.

You seem agitated. Sorry I was describing UPS but even Your FedEx will be tossing packages at you door in the future.

Have a great weekend. :)
