Is the rubber keyboard cover required anymore?
    e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Kuzy-Keyboard-Silicone-MacBook-Display/dp/B005QT6F0E/

The way I see it, as the chiclet keyboard had the keys floating up from the base, the cover could be molded to fit the keys. Now, it seems as if the keys sit almost flush with the base of the keyboard, so it would seem that the cover would just be a plain sheet of silicone.

I don't think it has ever been "required".
Now, as the motion was reduced a mm or so, you're right to assume a regular cover for the 2015- models would just sit there without anything to grab onto.
However if dust inside the keys is not an issue and it's only done for cosmetic purposes, I think a set of keyboard stickers would work just fine, albeit not easily interchangeable for folks who use those "Photoshop/Premiere/OSX/Etc" covers.
