I like them both. I’ll be going with silver for the simple reason that my work computer is SG and I need a simple way to distinguish them.

Ahhh gee I REALLY wanted to stand out in cafes with my new MacBook Pro. Guess I’ll throw my space Gray in the trash because it’s not “professional” ok ok there are preferences but calling space gray unprofessional Because you have a preference on color is absurd.
silver is dated. Space gray is a new color only being offered the last few years on macs.
both colors are still equally as professional
Your choice of space gray doesn’t make you unprofessional, but this reply does.

That red one is nice, I always wondered why Apple never released a product red laptop.
Yeah, it would be very nice indeed... Could be a problem with anodization. I believe that some colors are "weaker" than others, i.e. chip easier. Or it could be that it's just not on their radar. There are so many more iPhones than MacBooks...

What's wrong with not wanting the same thing everyone else does?
I’m that way. I make most the things I own because I don’t like owning what other people have. But flaunting a macbook pro at a coffee shop or that thought even crossing your mind is stupid imo. I’d rather blend in with a 3500$ machine than flaunt to nobody that really cares about you.
Not the kind of attention I’d want.

I don't have the new 16-inch, but I have a a 2016 13-inch in silver (purchased in October 2016). I've never regretted having this color and comparing it next to my 2015 MacBook Air it is a bit different shade of silver. It always felt darker to me than the earlier models. I also have a 2018 mini, which only comes in space gray, and it's also a nice color. I think they are both nice colors and its good to have choices out there. I'm not sure what I would get for my next Mac. Maybe by that time Apple will change up the colors again.

I have already ordered silver one. This is because I have been using SG since 2016 and it is time for change ;). Also on the Apple website I noticed that 16" silver has sligly different finish than previous one.. or maybe this is only my imagination.

Are you saying that being your way is okay, but being another way is stupid? Just checking, you usually have decent posts, but I just don't get this bit.
I’m not saying my way is better I just think flaunting things and your safety is the wrong way to go about life. People can do what they want though. I just have a little problem with showoff’s for people that don’t really give two S*** about them. So why worry about what others think? Get what you want for YOU. not others.

I had picked up an in-store BTO in space grey (i9 2.4, 32 GB, 5500M 8 GB, 2TB). It’s going back in favour of a silver i9 2.3, 32 GB, 5500M 8 GB, 1 TB that should arrive next week.

For what it’s worth, my 2016 MacBook Pro is in Space Gray and still looks immaculate. I’m sure scratches probably do show more on the darker color, but it’s not super easy to scratch.

What made you switch apart from colour?

Same here. My silver 16" should arrive today.

Can you please inform us about why did you send it back?

1.The 16” MBP is so good, I’ll probably keep it a long time. Silver is reportedly a little more durable than Spade Grey and holds up against scratches better.

2.The i9 2.4 is pointless, as there are usually enough cores/threads active where the CPU will never hit the full turbo speed. In most tasks my CPU is staying in the 2.8 to 3.4 GHz range.

3. 2 TB storage is overkill and I want to save some money by going with 1 TB.

Been using Mac notebooks since 2003 and have always loved the look of the silver aluminum Macs. I never considered the Space Gray. They look ok but silver is just way more elegant, IMO.

Thanks a lot for your reply. :) It is nice that you know what your needs are.
Do you use any vm? If yes, have you ever noticed extra heat and fan noise while using it?

My 2014 starts heating and fans blowing when win10 starts (in Parallels).

My Silver 16" arrived: it's gorgeous. I still also like space grey so I guess one can't go wrong. *shrugs*

I'm now thinking of going with a base silver model. I run several programs in a parallels VM with 2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM, which would still fit well into a 6-core 16 GB machine. My main issue with the 8-core CPU, 32 GB RAM, and 5500M 8 GB is that I can really only use all that power when connected to a power outlet. Pushing the machine at full-blast (ex: transcoding, heavy VM apps) drains the battery VERY quickly.

Have you noticed any signs of noticeable heat while using this VM?
