In the end- it is cheaper to maintain a 1st generation iPhone at $20 a month [for 2 years] then a the new iPhone.

Not to mention that you don't get the 200 SMS that the first generation gets...so it'd be $35 if you're making dead on comparisons.

What do you guys think of the inclusion of a "SIM Ejector Tool"?
Could it be that the 3G iPhone will be shipped unlocked, or at least be "officially" unlockable at some point?

The article under the current one on Macrumors states an unconfirmed rumor where current iPhone users will be shunted to another line. They then provide the IMEI number of the 3G iPhone they have, then go home to activate it by putting their old iPhone SIM into the 3G one and activating it that way.
