I just purchased an AT&T model for full price at Apple store about 6 days ago. I use AT&T, but should I go and exchange for a sim-free version to have the “superior” model?

For science I tried a sim free this morning

Got an excellent screen! Superior to my
Current X and walking around making calls
Doesn’t break up... In my fringe signal apt

I swear it broke up calls where my
Intel 7+ did not. Odd considering the differences are smaller between radios this gEneration and my intel 7+ was never an issue. Thought it was overblown

Bought two for screen lottery but only had to crack open one. returning the other sealed I’ve seen enough bad screens I know this isn’t that...

Att intel model goes back ! Wee
How return att when bought at launch

is it really fringe remote areas, and even driving interstate a lot of the times you'd probably be alright?

just curious, I have no plans to go to Verizon/Sprint ever (if anything it'd be Tmo or a Tmo/ATT MVNO) but

I never have problems on interstates that amount to more than a dropped call occasionally, if that.

i hope a lot of people take advantage of the opportunity to own a sim-free iPhone X. It is a truly incredible device that is worthy of the price.

I've used it in store twice now. I still don't get this sentiment.

IT. IS. A. PHONE.

It's fine. Fast. Nice screen.

But it doesn't do my work for me. It doesn't cook for me ,it doesn't functionally "do" anything more--at least meaningfully--than the phone that came before it, or the phone before that.

"Truly incredible device" seems like the ultimate in hyperbole.

Manager override at Apple store. They didn’t make a big fuss at all

Bought it outright. Web order.

If there was financing involved probably
Wouldn’t have been so easy

The problem is there is lot of confusion weather it will work with different carriers on different regions which will affect people like me who travels a a lot. For example AT & T model even though it comes unlocked if you pay full price the LTE band on the device wont support major asian carriers. So for us the best choice will be to go forward with SIM free version.

Asia is CDMA or GSM? I am of the understanding that (except in very remote areas) it's GSM, so the AT&T model will work just fine there.
[doublepost=1512498350][/doublepost]Pro tip: All the phones Best Buy sells are the unlocked model, from day one. They tell you they are assigned to a given carrier, but they are not.

Easier for inventory. Check the model numbers. ;)

If one device takes three minutes to download a file and the other device takes 2 minutes 42 seconds to download the same file, would you notice? I wouldn't.

Shhh! Don't tell that to the ISPs trying to sell home users on gigabit service to watch Netflix and play Angry Birds.

I swapped my launch day AT&T phone for another one at the Apple store due to a crackling sound in the speaker when the vibrate function activated. It was weird, and didn't always happen, but I didn't want to wind up with a refurb. I did this on the Monday after Thanksgiving and I had paid for my phone outright, so maybe I should switch to the unlocked JUST so when I try to sell it, someone doesn't think it's worth less than it really is.

If I try to sell it. :D

I might keep this one since it's the 10th anniversary phone.

Mine on iup. Would be hard to switch at this point. Would have bought outright but was concerned about resale or trade in values next year. Pretty consistent last 3-4 years but with new design and prices will see what people willing to pay. Depends on how X fairs over year and what gets released next year.

Ah, makes sense. That must be frustrating.

I wouldn't worry

a) if you aren't having problems
and/or
b) you plan on upgrading next year anyways
and/or
c) dont have the ability to return period

my apt has terrible reception, and I literally couldn't stay put near the window without regular chop on calls. Intel X was a degradation from Intel 7+. noticeably.

walked around my entire apt, small apt, and even in the bathroom where its signal is terrible and I could still stay on the call with QC X.

in my case it made a world of difference

--

My intel 7+ was fine, that I *still* have... don't care about that one much, it being "Intel"

and fwiw I tried intel 7 vs qc 7 when I was gonna get a 7 (before opting for 7+ a week later, 4.7" I just don't think is for me) it miraculously came in stock, and was ATT model), and noticed zero difference in my apt. ymmv

Mine has been great and picky also. Pretty sure next year back to one modem from Apple.

I wouldn't be surprised with all the QC fighting if Intel was the sole model next year

assuming they can pump out a modem with CDMA compatibility and gigabit to tout 5G or whatever,

Hmm, I’m trying to figure out if I should return my Intel AT&T for a QC. I get 2-3 bars of signal inside my house. But my outlying neighborhood and the adjacent one where I like to walk I get 2 to nothing depending how far down the main road I go where the best and safest walking is. Heh, I have the LTE Watch now, too. I’m not sure it would be worth re-entering all the various quality control lotteries for the QC modem. I do spend time at a beach rental where the signal and conditions are fringe like yours. I really don’t know what to do. I like my current X just fine. Too bad I’m not currently taking any road trips to get the opportunity to test it.

Yah tough to say

My apt is the excellent ultimate test

I might re-sell my Intel one just to get the Qualcomm. Would lose about $100 so doubt it's really worth it though.

It's an awesome product. Hope everyone gets a chance to own one at some point. Now ISO 11 is a different story. =_=

Oh, you’re past the return period? I cut it close but with the holiday extension I have a fair amount of time to think it over.

I have a tiny faint pink tint all around my display that doesn’t brother me. That’s the only “flaw” I have found so far. And I only know it’s there when I bother to look. Unlike the one on my S8+ this one doesn’t infringe on my field of view enough to bother me in the least. As far as I am concerned I’ve got a winning display. It’s nicer than the one on my husband’s launch day X for sure.

I kind of like the black X more now and could switch to that. But eh, I’m already so busy returning things Amazon vendors sent me that were the wrong color or item or size. Then there is the fact I’m still waiting for Google to acknowledge my Pixel 2 return and refund me for that. I don’t know if I want to add another run in with retail bureaucracy for the holidays.

If I were sure I’d really experience a difference I might go for it. Otherwise it’s tough to feel any incentive.

And those people, I would argue, are putting wayyyy too fine of a point on which phone to choose. Apple famously avoids "spec sheet" talk. For them, it is all about the experience, whether the unit runs at x GHz or has Y GB RAM is immaterial in their view. It is how does the whole package work together. If you queried a sample of Intel modem users regarding their user experience I would bet you dollars to donuts that it would be superlative. The only folks getting wrapped around the axle on which modem to get are those that probably know what you described above and somehow equate that to a better experience or more wise choice (take your pick). Aside from being network neutral, again appealing to a pretty specific user, the differences are laughable to get hung up on (pun intended).

Disclaimer: I have an iP8

I've mostly stood out of this fight. I have a T-Mobile iPhone X and I definitely noticed my signal and overall data speeds have been more inconsistent than when I had my iPhone 6S and 7. That said, it's not a big enough deal for me to take time out of my life to return this phone and get a new one (especially unlocked) since T-Mobile gave me a fantastic deal on this one due to other credits that were owed to me.

Yeah it was. At first I just thought it was the stainless steel band (kind of like the iPhone 4 days). Overall I’m 100% satisfied with the phone but I’m not as anal as some of our other friends.
