Sorry, didn't see the Israel location until now. But yeah, CDMA is old and useless tech.
Maybe so but you can’t move to Verizon if you have t mobile or AT&T phone due to wrong phone model. Stupid. I don’t carrier about the carriers but I like ability to move freely and not be locked especially if I pay full price and out right buy the phone

Where I live there is no CDMA network (outside the United States)

Fair enough. Depends on where you live. But the VZW model (A1865) works almost everywhere in the world except Japan. The GSM-only model does not work with some carriers in China, Australia, India, HK, New Zealand

Here is Apple's compatibility list for reference

But the line is rediculous, right? I work full about 45-60 hrs a week and go to school full time, so can't afford to go to wait in line.

Not sure where you are. In the U.S. the only line was launch day. You can walk-in now. If they have stock, it's yours.

Apparently, Reddit users claim you can use a Verizon sim in a T-Mobile unlocked device? All you're missing is the CDMA backbone for low signal areas?

This is 100% correct, my Intel X worked fine with my VZW SIM, just with no CDMA fallback.

T-Mobile full price at Apple is like sim free all you need to do is to take out the sim that came inside and throw it away

This is not correct. The Verizon or Sprint model would be the SIM free when unlocked. It is a true world phone because of Qualcomm chip that supports CDMA.

I just spoke to an Apple Store employee in person and they said they had nothing in stock but no line for waiting either. People line up early and often in front of the store they say. I guess I have to set up one of those stock alert notification things, idk which one is legit though? Or get up at 6 am and place an order. I am split on which color I want. I like the Silver back, but it is also not as shiny or light colored as I expected. The Space Grey sides are all colored darker and it looks very sleek. It also hides the notch a bit better as well. I felt the Grey might be better for watching videos too.

Pretty sure the only difference between the iPhones for Japan vs AT&T/T-Mobile is the different NFC technology that is utilized in Japan (which isn't present in the models for the rest of the world).
Both of the other models should work just fine in Japan - they just don't support their contactless payments and other applications.

They never should have coined the term "SIM free" and left it as "Carrier Unlocked". It gets people confused. Wait until people start going to eSIMs for their phones. That will make it even more fun.

eSIMs will allow Apple to sell one model and that being that. I still think Sprint and Verizon need to ditch CDMA tech since it is old and not so relevant.

Was just watching the iPhone 5 introduction commercial on another thread....reminded me that the iPhone 5 was when they introduced LTE in an iPhone.

Yes, it's been THAT long that the CDMA carriers have been sitting on their asses, taking their sweet time migrating.

Verizon's stated that they'll have it shut down at the end of 2019 (which, I think means there may not be any iPhones produced with native CDMA support in that year's fall announcement).

Edit: eSIMs will allow Apple to get rid of the SIM card slot. Maybe be that much closer to a 50 meter water resistance rating? (or do we need to get rid of the lightning port first?)

Color doesn't matter if you are going to put it in a case because the front is exactly the same on both. put it in a case you can't tell what color it is. To me @ $1000+ it's too expensive and too fragile to not put in a case. Repair cost is insane even if you buy AppleCare.

When I bought mine I preferred Space Gray (which is what I did get) but I would have taken Silver and been just as happy. BTW the notch fades away. It's not really a distraction -- at least hasn't been for me.

Will Apple offer the eventual "sim free" model on the iUP program? Or only full-price?

I'm sure eventually. No reason why it wouldn't. Supply has to catch up with demand first. With exception of the 8, usually it's about 6-8 weeks after launch. So maybe by mid-Dec.

Sim-free version is the unlocked Verizon phone that is already available if you pay full price out of pocket in the Apple store.

So the Space Grey sides don't mask the notch a little bit more?

It’s all about the money.

Apple playing hard ball with Qualcomm cause they think Qualcomm is over charging them for cdma modems.

So they are using Intel modems for gsm carriers and being less dependent on Qualcomm. Cause of their lawsuit.

Intel models for iPhone are on their 2nd generation (1st intel model iPhone 7 gsm)

If u have no desire to go with Verizon and sprint. Gsm iPhones will work. Performance wise. I think Qualcomm modems are better than intel modem but 99.9% of consumers won’t notice a difference.

That’s why I returned my iPhone X. I do want that option if I’m paying full price for iPhone X.

I just brought iPhone 8 Plus at Sams club for $300 gift card (which is like cash to me since we shop at Sams for food anyways)

I can deal with intel modem for $300 gift cart.

So iPhone 8 Plus cost me $800 Plus tAxes ($50) Plus includes $300 gift card. And waived activations.

Net cost is $550. Not bad for 64gb model I know I can resell in one year for around $500. Like almost free year owning iPhone.

Hi all,

If sprint iPhone X is bought in full price from Apple store model 1865, would it function like the Verizon model? Meaning i would be able to insert any sim to activate correct? Or would it require sprint SIM card?

If you’re in a case I doubt there’s much difference

My iPhone 7 Plus was a Verizon model on the AT&T network. I’ve had my iPhone X And after just a few days I can’t tell much difference in performance on cellular and Wi-Fi. But I don’t like is the fact I can’t really take this phone and fully use it on the Verizon network if I ever decide to change carriers which is doubtful
I paid full price and I fully agree and believe there should be no restrictions on where I take this phone carrier standpoint in the United States or for that matter anywhere in the world

If you buy the Sprint or VZ model full price @ Apple then yes. They are identical

IF, and thats a big IF, I had to get an iPhone X, I would make sure it did NOT have the intel modem. I'm on AT&T and I would try to get the Verizon or Sprint with the qualcomm modem. I hate that Intel POS in my 7+. I think its terrible and it's what I hate most about my current phone. My wireless speed in my home network seem slower than my 6+, reception is quite worse and even my LTE speed aren't as high as they used to be.

Even though I am never hitting the maximums they say the modem is capable of, it just doesn't seem to do as well.

I would even consider paying the $100 premium BB wanted to avoid it. Even though apple still doesn't use Gigabit LTE modems in it's flagship device that cheaper competitors do. Pathetic for their "Phone of the future". Sorry, not in its current form.

Yes. I paid full price for my wife unlocked intel iPhone 7 Plus last year at launch and wish I waited 4-5 weeks for them for the Qualcomm sim free model.

I considered switching to Verizon right before they changed the new unlimited data plans in late August 2017 (I liked their new unlimited feb 2017 but hate their new new unlimited August 2017 plan)

But one of the reasons is we would have to buy her another $800-900 iPhone to work on Verizon and than sell the intel iPhone 7 Plus. Just a hassle. I had the Qualcomm universal 6s Plus so it would have been easy for me but not for her.

Our friends in same boat. They have att and want to switch to Verizon but don’t want to replace their intel iPhone 7 Plus.

It’s just annoying being limited. I’m happy with att don’t get me wrong. But just the option to move to Verizon or sprint. And we are being restricted
