Save yourself the disappointment and just install SimCity 4 with mods. The Mac beta intel version doesn't really work, but the PC version runs perfectly in Wine.

Meh. Bought it and I think it is the biggest scam of the year. I will never ever purchase anything from EA again.

(In other news, EA was elected the worst company in America history for the second time in a row. They deserved it.)

I really wish people would stop referencing that poll as if it had any meaning. Don't get me wrong, EA have their issues (to put it mildly) but... it's an Internet poll. Whoever happens to have the ire of the geek community at that point in time is going to get slaughtered. Or are we really saying that always-on DRM is worse than, say, the effects Bank Of America has on people's lives?

Actually decided to put money down on SimCity last night thanks to a good offer price. The always-on DRM annoys me but it's not a deal breaker, the limitations of the simulation are well known but don't necessarily make it a bad game. Frankly at this point in my life I'm not looking for something to sink hundreds of hours into managing a thousand minor details. A simpler sim is appealing at the moment where I can throw a few hours at it here and there and just have fun. I can understand why others may think otherwise though and fair play if you do.

After the server issues passed, it became horribly clear that the game was crap. Seriously it's something you'd expect from one of those popcap games style sites. I'm a huge fan of simcity/tycoon/management style games, and this one was pure crap.

You finish your city within a couple of hours- then thats it, there is bugger all to do. It's got no replay-ability really.

Dont waste your cash.

I was so excited to hear of this, but no... Not with that AI and those small towns. Something's wrong if the predecessor has much more content (I don't care about any DLC excuses -- just stating simple facts) and is more advanced to the core.

Unfortunately, I don't think they'll fix those issues. They're not bugs, but design choices.

I was excited by the new SimCity on Mac until the always-on requirement. Have no interest in that. Now I just sit back and hope that Microsoft makes an Age of Empires for iOS. Maybe I'll break down and get the Mac version...

I was excited until they announced their:
  • Way too high price
  • Small play world
  • Always on DRM
  • Origin-only (I hate that service)

I really hope they give Aspyr permission to re-release SimCity 4 on the Mac App Store.

Damn!

Was holding out when Amazon had the game on sale because I thought EA would have screwed over mac users by requiring a separate purchase.

I was excited about this 2 months ago. Now I couldn't care less if I never play it.

My feelings exactly. I like that it will be a native game and not a port (allegedly) but I simply do not care about it anymore. Too much negative press and lies (requiring online mode when it really doesnt except for chatting).

Wait, EA is actually taking steps to stop being the crappiest game company in the world?

I'm still not interested in SimCity (I just don't care for that type of game), but maybe if they'd put this much effort into C&C 3 I might have considered buying other games in the series.

C&C3 was a great game as was its expansion kanes wrath. It was the games afterward that were the issue.

Not sure if it can still be done, but there is a loophole in the origin store. Go on the indian store and the price is much lower. I got SC5 (and regret getting it) for £17.99 instead of £49.99 - works fine, loads (literally thousands) of people on Reddit did it, all worked fine, nobody got banned, etc.

I just don't get why digital downloads cost as much if not the same as a physical copy?

Also will we be able to download to additional platforms without paying? I like that I can play diablo 3 on OSX and windows and only had to pay for the game once.

"Gamers will be able to purchase SimCity for Mac as a $60 digital download"

Are there other kinds of downloads? What are they?

Analog downloads. But as far as I know, there's nothing quite like the Internet but made up of coaxial cables carrying analog signals over which you can download games.

Why in the world is this front page news?

It's one of the worst games to be produced by the worst company in America. And this isn't a gaming forum.

How much did EA pay for this "story"?

Yes, read the article...

SimCity has a very long and great history on the Mac. Unfortunately EA managed to ruin that overnight with the release of this game.

You couldn't pay me to play it. Say no to unnecessarily always-online games!
