SimCity Arrives On the Mac on June 11th With Cross-Platform Servers

I just don't get why digital downloads cost as much if not the same as a physical copy?

Also will we be able to download to additional platforms without paying? I like that I can play diablo 3 on OSX and windows and only had to pay for the game once.

Did ya not read the article? If you purchase the windows verson, you also get the mac, and vice versa

I was so happy to watch those preview movies on Youtube. I was ready to buy the Mac version like i did with the older Sim Cities. Then they released the Windows version and the *****torm started to get out of hand.

I will never pay for Sim City again as long as it is an online-only game. Eather remove the always-on line of code or I will pirate my first game. Lets see who shows up first. :)

Until then I rediscovered Tropico. A great game. Bought it two weeks ago and it seems to never get boring. :)

Still frustrated that it isn't on Steam. Then I could just download the Mac edition to my new 27" iMac and play it there or play it on my HP laptop - whichever I choose, and not have to pay twice.

RTFA. You only have to pay once and you get both the Mac and PC versions on Origin.

I didn't. I gave them a bunch of pennies by buying it and I like it :)

Than expect them to keep releasing DRM heavy and bug ridden software. Oh and you can't play the game after you've bought it until they get their **** straight.

i guess a positive would be it's cross server.. i do wish every game maker would do this if for nothing else just to have cross platform saves...

pick up and continue your game where you left off on whatever system you have it on...

My biggest problem is not with the always on stuff, my biggest problem with the game right now is bugs with RCI and inter city play. For instance I can have a residential city with lots of workers and an industrial city with lots of jobs but my sims refuse to commute no matter how much transportation I give them. I don't mind smaller lots as long as the region play works which at the moment it doesn't. I love the graphics so I hope they can patch these bugs

Price very high

I cant believe they are still trying to sell this for 60 bucks. Almost every site is between 35 and 50 with and without sales.

Why in the world is this front page news?

It's one of the worst games to be produced by the worst company in America. And this isn't a gaming forum.

How much did EA pay for this "story"?

Well we could have the usual Front Page news of something related to Samsung or some other manufacturer's product that is un-Apple related. This at least is a Mac game. Pick your poison.

Take it you having "played" it yet...

I got Sim City the day it came out and have been playing it since. It's very enjoyable. I had one evening I couldn't connect to the servers the Friday night after it came out but since then have had no problems. I find it much more enjoyable than Sim City 4.

Note: I've been playing Sim City games since the original. Sim City 2000 was my favorite but I think this new one comes close.

Yes, the city sizes are small but I get around that by building a group of cities. I'm hoping EA/Maxis increases the city sizes but for now I've been enjoying it. I certainly have my quibbles with the game but they don't mean I can't enjoy the game. Later stage in cities can be a pain though because a city will be going along just fine then all the sudden you'll be way over budget and running out of funds, even without making poor money decisions. I guess that's like real life governments though - deficits, deficits, deficits.

One thing that made it even better is that through a series of deals Sim City only cost me $35 at launch (plus I got ME3 for free).

  • Always on connection required
  • Requires Origin, Not available on Steam
  • 60 bucks to essentially Beta test their game and a wait of 6months to a year before the game becomes an enjoyable, playable, bug-free experience.

No thanks. Think I'll go with Bioshock. Hey... it releases around the same time...and I actually like those guys.

I really wish people would stop referencing that poll...are we really saying that always-on DRM is worse than, say, the effects Bank Of America has on people's lives?

There's no question that EA is not the worst company in America.

There's also no question that EA IS the worst gaming company in the world. Which if you read between the lines is what that poll is really about.

The only version I ever enjoyed :)

Q: Will the Mac version support Retina display?
A: We have not yet determined if we have Retina display support.

2 months out, and they're not sure?

People are seriously paying 60 USD for a game? I mean, I never played any games (or at least I never paid for one), I wasn't aware that they are so expensive. I can't imagine spending that much money on a game.

Three pages of comments and not one mention of Godus. For those of us old enough to remember Populous and B&W it is going to be a trip down memory lane with the bonus of technology. I'd have bought SC5 until I saw the initial mess, now I'll wait for my Kickstarter Godus and wait for the smoke to settle on EA.

Hoping for the Godus beta soon!

Godus looks cool but it has little to do with SimCity. It isn't a citybuilder.
I thought about backing it, but molyneux is the king of overpromising. Hope it's good.

50-60 is standard for AAA games. Game prices drop like rocks, though, and you can usually find deals on release too (I paid 45 for SimCity on release, before I got my refund.)

Dont buy this game

Dont buy this game. There are still even worse bugs plaguing everyone who plays this game. Overtime the city becomes corrupted and you get processing errors (Rollback loop issue) and no longer can play the game so they ask you to create a new city. I have seen lots of posts of others having this issue but it seems like they are trying to hide it from the community so people keep buying the game. I have spent 4 hrs with support and the issue still lingers since the game has been launched. They have no resolution on the fix and won't give you a refund. This is by far the worst EA game ever.

Unless 2.0 massively increases the size of cities, I won't touch this.

What I liked best about older versions was building huge sprawling cities with multiple districts then tying it all together with fancy transportation networks. Can't do that at all in this game. No thanks.

It may not be a city builder, but the format is similar. By my action this happened, if the resources are not in place, that doesn't happen. Don't get me wrong, I have no interest other than playing Godus. It may just fill the void that SC5 should have filled.

Sigh, I was so looking forward to this game on the Mac. After the initial wow, clearly after a certain size of the town it turns into a debacle of a game. The straight-out lies from that maxis chick about the DRM only make things worse.

Anyhow, discovered Tropico 4 which is a lot of fun with their progression of campaigns to finish. But no Mac version? I may never understand the logic of companies avoid such a large consumer platform as the Mac.

Loved A-train by Artdink on my PowerBook 145!

Both Steam and Origin will allow you to download games to other computers that are linked to the same account. However...

DD cost as much as a physical copy on Origin because that is what EA does. EA rarely if ever puts its games on sale, or list below full retail because, hey why pass on the savings of not having a store take 30% of your retail price when you can keep all of that for yourself. They also have great language in their user agreements like "we can delete any of your games, even your full account and kill your every right to use any registered EA game on any of Origin's linked platforms."

Steam on the other hand always offers some discount usually 5-10% off preordered titles and they do their steam sales about 3-4 times a year. Usually 1 each quarter. The next will probably be in July. Those sales see massive discounts in the price on all their games. I remember buying Deus Ex about a month after it came out on Steam during their Thanksgiving sale for like 20bucks marked down from its initial 50dollar price.
